Trafficked Wins Gracie Award

Trafficked, Youth Radio's investigative series on the the sex trafficking of minors in Oakland, won its third major journalism award: a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media. The series has raised awareness of the issue both locally and nationally.  Most recently, the city of Oakland filed suit against two hotels that were highlighted for catering to prostitution in a follow-up story to Trafficked.

Youth Radio Partners with the Kennedy Center

 
Youth Radio is collaborating with ArtsEdge, the Kennedy Center's digital learning production team, for its Whats Going On...Now (WGON) campaign. WGON is a digital project designed to link the arts and social justice.  The project celebrates the 40th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's performance of the album at the Kennedy Center, a year after its release.   
Youth Radio Featured on Workforce Panel at Pandora

Youth Radio's Director of Administration, Erik Sakamoto, presented on the Arts, Media and Entertainment Industry Summit panel hosted by the Oakland Unified School District at Pandora's Oakland headquarters. The panel was focused on the skills needed to prepare young people for those sectors and what leads those industries to hire local talent.  Sakamoto sat on the panel alongside Joe Kennedy, CEO of Pandora, and other industry professionals. 
Youth Radio Students Participate in Peace Summit 
      
 
 
Youth Radio Project Associates Luis Flores (left) and Tierra Walls were invited to contribute to the Shift Network's Youth Rising for Peace Summit, a telesummit which highlights the positive roles youth are playing in their communities, as well as the challenges they face. The Summit started in New Zealand, and traveled westward, with interviews from youth in a different country each hour.
