Part of Youth Radio's investigative team traveled to New York City this month to accept the Edward R. Murrow Award for Trafficked. The Awards are administered by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) in recognition of "outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. This is Youth Radio's fourth Edward R. Murrow Award.

Asha Richardson and Charlie Foster traveled to Washington, DC, to deliver a presentation to the National Science Foundation on innovative ways to engage new and younger audiences with science. Youth Radio's presentation focused on theMobile App Lab,Youth Radio Investigates, and our STEM-focused speaker series, Brains and Beakers. Youth Radio presented alongside WNYC's Radiolab as part of this brown bag series for NSF grantees.

Youth Radio Receives Digital Innovators Award From Innovation Oakland
Youth Radio received a Digital Innovators Award, the first awarded to a non-profit organization, from Innovation Oakland (InOak), a collaborative of new media and tech companies in Oakland. The award recognizes Youth Radio for our Digital Media Workforce Program and our contributions to business growth in the City of Oakland. Other awardees include Pandora Internet Radio and Sungevity.
Alameda County Honors Youth Radio With Human Relations Award
The Alameda County Human Relations
Commission (part of the County's Social Services Agency) honored Youth Radio with an "Excellence in Human Relations Award" this month. The awards highlight outstanding work being performed in terms of fostering mutual understanding, respect and goodwill among the County's diverse populations.
Oakland Mayor Issues Official Proclamation To Youth Radio

Oakland's Mayor Jean Quan issued an official proclamation commending Youth Radio's newsroom for Trafficked, our investigative series about the sex trafficking of youth in Oakland, as well our Health Department's outstanding work with sexually exploited minors. Staff and youth gathered in the Mayor's conference room for a panel discussion. The group then headed into the City Council Chambers where Mayor Quan delivered remarks on Youth Radio's work in the community and officially declared October 4, 2011, as Youth Radio Day.
