"To solve a problem, you have to understand it.  So to solve this prostitution problem, you have to understand the girls."

--Anonymous, victim of sex trafficking

Tune in today, as NPR's All Things Considered opens with a Youth Radio investigative series exploring the issues and consequences surrounding girls being bought and sold in Oakland, California.

For more than six months, Youth Radio has been investigating child sex trafficking in Oakland. It's a system of exploitation the city is becoming known for, and the problem extends across America. The FBI has said more than 300,000 children and youth per year are forced into prostitution. But perspectives from the girls themselves, who are caught up in what's known as "the game," are often missing from reports.

In this two-part series airing December 6th and 7th, Youth Radio reveals those perspectives. The series continues on youthradio.org/trafficked and The Huffington Post, where multimedia reporting goes deeper to reveal the varied perspectives of girls sold for sex on the streets and online, and a pimp "business plan" provided by prosecutors.

Highlights of the investigation include:

- First-person accounts from high school students working the streets

- An exclusive interview with a working online escort

- A primary source 'Pimp Business Plan'

Underage sex trafficking has been a hot topic in the news,  but the Youth Radio investigation uncovers a more honest, open dialogue obtained as a result of the young reporters and the unique trust they established with their subjects.
