White House Interview for Youth Radio
| |
Youth Radio's Pendarvis Harshaw recently interviewed Michael Strautmanis,
Chief of Staff to White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, about the
President's Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative.
"Children don't need people to be perfect, they need people to be present,"
said Strautmanis. The initiative stresses the importance of fatherhood. Partnering with community-based
organizations across the country, it promotes responsible
fatherhood and addresses the problem of absent fathers.

Youth Radio's Oscar Grant Trial Coverage
|
The trial of former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle, accused of the murder of Oakland resident Oscar Grant on New Year's Day, 2009, has been the focus of intense public interest. Youth Radio has been covering the story since Oscar Grant's death, and was the first media outlet to speak exclusively with the youth witness who captured footage of the incident which ultimately led to the charges brought against Mehserle.
Youth Radio has been covering the trial in depth since it began on June 10 in Los Angeles, producing daily updates of breaking news. As a result, Youth Radio is one of a select few organizations which have earned the privilege of being inside the courtroom when the verdict is handed down. Check out Youth Radio's coverage online or listen to our recent piece on NPR to learn more.
