SJHS Spartan Scramble
2010 Date Set
While the snow falls and the winds howl outside, it is never too early to start tuning up your golf game, particularly your putting. The 18th annual SJHS Spartan Scramble will be held at Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell, PA on Monday, June 14th, 2010. The putting stakes have been doubled! Anchor Inn, the Putting Contest sponsor for a number of years, has doubled the prize to $10,000! This contest is in addition to the many skill prizes and hole-in-one prizes offered every year.
If you have never been to the SJHS Spartan Scramble, the day starts with registration and lunch followed by a noon shot gun start. Dinner and an auction follow eighteen holes of scramble format golf. The putting contest is held throughout the day, with players lining up for their chance when their foursome makes the turn. The final round of the putting contest occurs before dinner.
Mark your calendar and tell Santa you need that new putter! If you are not quite up to 18 holes of golf, plan on joining us for dinner and the auction to benefit SJHS! Registration information will be sent in the spring. For additional information, please contact Laura Burkett-Marzka, Development Director, '91 at lburkett@salsgiver.com. |
Winning Robots
SJHS sent two teams to the Western PA VEX Robotics competition at California University on November 20, 2009. They competed against 14 other teams from 9 other schools. One of our teams was the tournament champion and won the Robot Skills Challenge, while our other team placed third overall.
This is the second year for the SJHS VEX program, and the second consecutive year the school has brought home the Robot Skills Challenge award, and placed as a tournament finalist. The teams were made up of students enrolled in our Robotics/Engineering class offered at SJHS. Our winning team consisted of 10 seniors, with our juniors and sophomores showing they are ready to make it a three-peat next year. |
