Greetings!
What do donkeys and coffee have in common? Read on and you will be amazed! I've heard so much about the horrendous issue of human trafficking and child labor in the past year. Honestly, it is a little shocking that these issues seem to be so horrific and around for so long... and somehow I never really heard about it much before. Maybe I just have a heightened awareness, or maybe others are hearing more too and talking about it, or possibly God is building an army to put an end to this unacceptable practice by bringing the issue to the forefront of human consciousness. One thing is for sure. If you are aware that innocent children are being stripped of their childhood and their sense of safety, it is impossible to simply do nothing besides lament their plight. The substance of the human condition is tried and convicted in one's own heart should it choose not to act. Back to the donkeys and coffee. As you read the articles below, this newsletter should come as a welcome respite to the overwhelming sense of discouragement that we are too 'small' or too unknowledgeable to take on this evil. The articles here will give you the tools (donkeys and coffee) to be the force of change, of hope, of healing for these children should you choose to stop just listening and talking, but to also act. It is with gratitude that I close this letter and with a joyful heart that this world is so full of powerful women (and men) that stand with me and say, "May my life and my choices bring hope and healing to the frightened, the broken, the hopeless, and the least of these!"
Love,
Lori

Introducing New Chapter Chicktime Cambodia |
I was encouraged to start Chicktime Cambodia after reading the mission statement "encouraging women to develop their passions and use their gifts to make the world a better place." I have the privilege to work with some amazing young Cambodian women at Three Corner Coffee Roasters. These young women are part of the White Lotus Project, some are graduates and some are still in the program. The White Lotus Project is a holistic ministry that provides shelter, education, and training for women and girls who want to escape abuse or who are at risk of exploitation. My vision is to work with these girls to encourage them to develop their passions through working with other women in Cambodia that are at risk. It is my hope that both my daughter and her high school friends will also participate in these opportunities. There are many young women who need to be loved in Cambodia and my hope is that through Chicktime Cambodia we can share the love of our Savior Jesus Christ with them. Through the sales of Chicktime Coffee we will be able to support our ministry here in Cambodia. I look forward to sharing our stories with you! Your Sister in Christ Jesus, Kelle Richter Note from Lori: Chicktime Cambodia is not only Chicktime's first chapter outside the great state of Texas, but also our first international chapter! We truly believe that our partnership with Kelle, the founder of the Cambodia chapter, came as an answer to our deep desire to help victims of human trafficking escape and find hope and healing from the sinister life they were forced to endure. Kelle Richter moved to Cambodia several years ago with her husband on a temporary job assignment. The job ended, but the Richters stayed. They opened a coffee roasting plant with the sole purpose of giving these precious girls job training and an income as they recover from the horrendous life they endured and survived. I hope you enjoy following Kelle's journey and even becoming part of her journey by purchasing our newest product, Chicktime Coffee! Yes, we have private labeled this Cambodian coffee and are marketing it in the USA for Kelle and the girls!! To learn more about the young women Chicktime Cambodia serves, please visit the White Lotus website at http://www.whitelotusonline.org/. To try the coffee, email info@chicktime.com for a free sample. To jump in with both feet, go to http://sodeclothing.org/SoDE_Clothing/chicktime.html and order your coffee today. We are in need of 25 one year subscriptions (4 - 1lb. bags delivered to your door every month for $45 which includes shipping). We really need your help!! |
Kristi Earles, founder of the Chicktime Hope chapter based in San Antonio, Texas, has joined the global call. And thank God. Most of us are not called to foreign missions and for good reason. We have our own unique job to do and role to fill. And one of those jobs is to financially support global missions!!
Most Americans support global causes at one time or another and that is a wonderful thing. But there isn't a doubt that we should all do more. On that note, please take a moment to hear about the miracle work that donkeys are doing, yes donkeys, to stop child labor, child sex trafficking, preventable child deaths, lack of educational opportunities...just because of the strength of a donkey. MountainChild has amazing statistical facts on their website, and we encourage you to go there and read all about it at www.mountainchild.org. But let us share the highlights. MountainChild serves the people in the most remote parts of our world, the Himalayan Mountains, where half of all the mountain children die before age 8. The number one reason for these deaths is the lack of motor-able roads to bring water treatment supplies, vaccines, and educational opportunities to the mountain communities. Enter the donkeys. When MountainChild has had the resources to purchase donkeys to pack the critical supplies to the children, the deaths stop because clean water is a reality, the vaccines stop the spread of curable diseases, and educational materials teach parents about the tricks and lies of the sex traffickers promising a better life for their children (the traffickers convince parents to send their starving children with them to become house maids for the affluent). If you are tired of standing by and feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of the global problems stealing the lives of planet earth's children, consider supporting Kristi and her call to save the mountain child. Chicktime has committed to raise the money to buy, feed, and care for a donkey (for life) through MountainChild. Our donkey will deliver critical help to the mountain children. The cost of our donkey and his upkeep for life is $1,200 US dollars. Kristi will take care of all the paperwork, she just needs our support. Please make checks out to MountainChild and send to us at Chicktime, 1020 Allen View Dr., New Braunfels, TX 78132 . By the way, we have decided to name our donkey Chick... and you are welcome to take a mission trip to learn more about MountainChild and visit the mountain children AND the donkeys!

At the Hop!
 Chicktime Boerne's 50's sock hop was a blast! While we listened to 50's music to get everyone jumpin', our girls at Meadowlands got to choose what kind of skirt they wanted to create - poodle, scotty dog or kitty. The girls also got to pick the color of skirt - pink, black or lavender. After they chose their skirt and animal then the fun really began - the decorating! The girls were so unique in their one of a kind creations! Lots of sparkles, jewels, colored glitter glues and buttons were used. The girls wore their skirts immediately after they finished and proudly showed them off for the camera!
After we finished decorating, everyone got to indulge in a root beer float or two! The girls were so happy and excited and appreciative with lots of hugs and smiles and laughter. It fills our hearts to be able to be a part of this and share in their joy!
Before it was all over the girls showed us their gratitude not only with hugs, but also with thank you cards in the shape of a soda float sundae and a jukebox that they created themselves! What incredible talent these wonderful girls have! It was a very blessed time! Chicktime Boerne would love to have YOU share your gifts and passions with the precious girls at Meadowlands! It is so easy!! If you would like more information on what that entails, contact Christina Paiz at cslopez55@yahoo.com or go to the Chicktime website and subscribe to our roster! To the penny!
We had a big 'ol group of volunteers answer Pam Collins' plea for career women and financial geniuses (not) to join her on October 8th! Many shared their career paths with the girls who listened intently to each speaker. Pam, along with some great volunteers, helped the girls learn how to prepare and plan a monthly budget. Many of the girls will be doing this on their own when they turn 18 and leave New Life to start an independent life of their own. These pointers are so beneficial and life saving! In the midst of serving on a spiritual walk, planning for and having a wedding for her daughter and studying for her CPA exam, Pam managed to organize this amazing group of volunteers and bless the girls at New Life! We appreciate all of you and what you do!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many thanks to everyone who responded to our call to fill next year's months
of Chicktime! If you still want to be a part, you still can! Just watch for our monthly invites and register to join us any month you want!
Volunteer Needs at New Life
New Life is in need of surrogate parents to attend the ARDS intake
and exit meetings that the girls have at Trinity Charter School.
Normally the girls' parents are the advocates, but since most of
them are not allowed contact, we use surrogates. Meetings are
held during the day each Wednesday. Surrogates can also
tutor their girl one on one during the school day.
Lisa needs helps in the Point Store for 1 1/2 hours each Wednesday afternoon...
can you cover one day each month?
All Warm and Snuggly!
Fall finall y blew into South Texas, bringing new and creative ideas to Chicktime Corpus Christi. When one of our chicks noticed a girl was feeling under the weather at a previous Chicktime, she came up with a clever solution - snuggly fleece blankets for each of the girls! From a variety of prints and florals, the girls chose brightly patterned fleece for the top of the quilt with a coordinating solid for the base. Pink seemed to be the popular color of choice! The room was strangely quiet as mini clusters scattered around to carefully cut the fringe around the border of the hand-tyed quilts. Eventually the volume rose as everyone curiously translated the rainbow colors on the fleece from English to Spanish & vice-versa. As usual it was so exciting to see individual personalities being expressed in the project and how we are even beginning to learn who likes what from month to month. Th ere were an abundance of beautiful warm & snuggly blankets for "mas bonitas personas". An even greater joy was being able to experience Chicktime with a f ew new chicks who now understand what all the "fuss" is about! It is so hard to believe that the end of the year is coming so soon, but we still have a few tricks up our sleeve...Karaoke en Espanol, coming soon! Our November Chicktime will be on the 19th.
A Special Baby Shower!
 On October 1, 2011 Chicktime Empowered worked hard at having too much fun at our October Event!! The event was an oldtime Baby Shower for Central Texas LifeCare. CTLC is also a nonprofit Christian Organization(Ministry) that helps women of all ages and backgrounds with pregnancy tests, STD Testing, Abstinence Training, Abstinence Presentations to local schools, sonograms for pregnant women, Life Classes for all and an SOS Store. There is also in place a PACE(Post Abortion Christian Education) Bible Study through a group setting or on an individual basis. The SOS Store is what we helped stock so that the clients who attend Life Classes and earn "points" can then spend those points in the store. They may "buy" all sorts of much needed items from diapers, baby wipes, bottles, bibs, baby clothes, formula, and gently us
ed baby furniture, etc. CTLC operates through private donations. CTLC volunteers work on the premise that every client has a divine appointment which puts
every client in a special light while receiving services. Services at CTLC are free to everyone.
Mark your calenders! Hastings in San Marcos will host Chicktime Empowered for a book signing to spotlight our soon to be famous Chicktime cookbooks! We will be at Hastings on Hwy 80 in San Marcos on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 10-4! All Chicktime recipe contributors are invited to come and sign for their chapters!!
Encourage Tejeda
 Encourage Tejeda took advantage of the North East Independent School District school holiday and got together on Monday, October 10th at Northwoods Ice Skating Rink. The girls laughed a little and fell ALOT~ but the time together served it's purpose....to promote Christian friendships at and away from school. While the Zamboni shaved the ice, the girls gathered at the snack area for refreshments provided by Allie Funk. Allie baked and iced all the girls cross shaped cookies. We had praise and concern time and drew names for "encouragement" partners. The girls were charged to send texts/notes/postings with scriptures or uplifting quotes to their "encouragement" partner. At our next gathering we will draw for new ones! Entry to our October gathering was a canned good. During the holidays this will be a reoccurring theme in hopes to get together a basket for the food pantry from our group! All for HIS glory~ Diane and Donnette
A Beautiful Day in the Country!
The Chicktime RGV chapter really had a special day at Mr. Bill Martin's home in Edinburg,Texas on October 22, 2011 along with his family and friends. We had children from under the age of one year up to 15 years old that were able to join in all of the fun. Along with the children from the RGV Buckner Children's home, six house parents supervised and joined the 16 children plus two Chicktime members, Echo Richardson and Tamara Sanchez.
We had the children break into two groups to take turns going to the man made fishing pond where several of the children were able to cast a pole into the water and were sucessful in catching a fish which we believe were catfish and some other type of fresh water fish. Canned corn was used for bait which worked like magic! Meanwhile the other group was busy learning about the upkeep of horses. They had the opportunity to take some wagon rides and take turns learning about the horses. Each child had the opportunity to walk around the corral while the horses were lead by adults. Several children were apprehensive at first and a little bit scared, but after a short while most all thoroughly enjoyed riding and just being around the horses.
Some extra surprises were given by letting the kids sing some karaoke while they enjoyed some refreshments. Then Mr. Martin presented several bags of used shoes and boots that he offered to the children. The eyes of these youngs boys were happy to see that they were given some boots that fit them really well and they were able to take them home for their very own! To finish off the beautiful and blessed day, most everyone enjoyed some popsicles and a blessing from one of the house parents. The weather was so perfect and everyone really had a blessed day.
We look forward to hopefully returning to Mr. Martin's home one day in the near future for another fun filled day in the country! Thank you Mr. Martin!
St.PJ's Great Pumpkin Fun Run
 Chicktime-San Antonio joined in on St. PJ's fundraiser, The Great Pumpkin Fun Run, on Saturday, October 15th. A few "chicks" and their "chicklets" (daughters) ran 3.1 miles to help raise funds for the children's home. It was a beautiful day for a run! After running, all of the participants and their families were treated to a pancake breakfast. Yum! There were lots of fun activities for kids of all ages. Our girls even got in on a little face painting action. It was back to work after the fun and games with cleanup duty. Chairs needed to be stacked and tables put away.
The Great Pumpkin Fun Run is an annual event, so get your walking/running shoes on and start training for next year's race. We would love for Chicktime to "represent"!!
Isaiah 40:31
A Pumpkin Good Time Together!
On Saturday, my girlfriends and I headed up to the Big Springs Ranch for Children. This month's activity involved painting pumpkins and roasting pumpkin seeds. We painted and chit chatted with the girls. A good time was had by all! My girlfriends and I got to spend time with the girls at the program and with each other.
I was raised to believe that one of the secrets to happiness in life lies in giving to others. An organization like Chicktime helps me fulfill that belief instilled in me by my mother and grandmother. The beauty of giving to others is that at the end of it all, we walk away with a much greater gift. A gift that I lack the ability to express in words. It is one that must be felt. I invite you to share your time with these girls just one Saturday a year.
Kerrville
Chicktime fever has spread to the hill country! A group of ladies recently held a Chicktime event at the Hill Country Youth Ranch and their day in a word was AWESOME!! Everything ran smoothly and, most importantly, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. They made smoothies, taught hula dancing, and even made hairclips and leis! The HCYR residents were very thankful and wanted to know if this group of ladies would be coming back! We are still praying for a leadership team for this chapter. If you or someone you know lives in the Kerrville area and would like to join a roster list that is growing by the day, please contact us!
Katy Chicktime Katy is in need of a leader. The Krause Children's Home in Katy is READY for Chicktime but without a leader... nothing can happen! If you would like to tour Krause and find out more about Chicktime Katy, email us!
What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring! This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together. Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.
Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
Please visit our website www.chicktime.com for more details and contact
