Greetings!
Each month I have the honor of addressing each of you from a very deep and personal place. My husband sighs in relief each month that I don't use him as an example of a learning experience I have had. My kids would too if they read the newsletter... but I'm not so sure they know I have a life outside feeding them, paying their bills, listening to them, and making home 'home'.
This month, I would like to address a question I am asked time and time again from friends. How do I hear from God so clearly? I know why but it is very difficult to share because the answer is so simple. Most people wouldn't believe me. So I started researching publications and teachers who have a lot to say on this subject. And I found many. My favorite however is Joyce Meyer's series called How to Hear from God. She has written a book, a bible study, and a daily devotional book as part of this series. I read them all this past month and they are incredibly accurate and better explain how to hear the wisdom of our creator better than I ever could.
If you have ever wanted to know the answers to your deepest questions, or just answers to the simple everyday decisions we all have to make, I strongly encourage you to pick up copies of Joyce's books on the subject.
Nothing thrills me more than this topic (okay, that is not exactly true... I love talking about my family, healing, purpose, and the list goes on!) I would enjoy listening to stories of your journey anytime. So call me, stop by for a cup of coffee or invite me to lunch! I'm here for you!
Joyfully,
Lori

Chicktime wants to thank Summit Christian Center for bringing such an incredible event to San Antonio! We had a blast and many lives were impacted. Women who attended with Chicktime have shared that the conference has encouraged them immensely... to finally get moving and do something about this 'calling' deep within themselves to help others... to keep going even when it is tough to find the time to volunteer... to embrace the love in their lives they have been overlooking... and on and on and on!
Chicktime encourages all women to post upcoming women's conferences on the chicktime.com calendar!!

Step Into Africa
Chicktime Austin and the Chicktime Executive Board took the opportunity to tour the acclaimed "Step Into Africa" exhibit by World Vision in Austin, Texas on September 12. The "Experience" gives you the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time: AIDS. This interactive exhibit combines a stirring audio tour with captivating photography, transporting you into the heart of Africa. The exhibit focused on the lives of 4 children and the challenges they face and the people who God sends to bring them hope. World Vision once again masterfully captures the heart and soul of this crisis and brings it to those of us that will not otherwise come face to face with it. We will, however, be moved to help just the same.
If you are unable to visit an exhibit in person, please take this opportunity to view the online experience here.

Princess Zulu luncheon
Following our tour of the exhibit, we had lunch with a Princess! Though she is not royalty, Princess Zulu was an absolute dream to be in the presence of. Princess (her first name) shared her story of having her parents die from AIDS and the subsequent assumption as the head of her household following their deaths. She is an extremely resourceful young woman and did what she needed to keep her siblings together and alive. Following the birth of her own children, Princess was tested for the virus and found to be positive. In 1997, she was given 6 months to live! "My challenges can become so small when I focus on God. Every day I am reminded of where my focus should be." She believes God has called her to be this voice for the AIDS crisis in Africa and she is answering His call on her life in a very regal manner. Our special thanks to Lora Williams, leader of Chicktime San Marcos and the Austin Women of Vision chapter, for her invitation to join her for this special time with a special lady!

GROOVY GIRLS!!
September at the Meadowlands was groovy! We brought back the fashion of the late 60's early 70's with tie-dye t-shirts. The girls got a chance to express their far out side and design a shirt using their favorite colors. It is always fun to see each child's unique personality reflected in her choices. Everyone had a blast and the shirts turned out beautifully. As America was reflecting on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we wanted to give the girls an opportunity to commemorate as well. In addition, our local community was recently threatened by a raging wildfire. Hundreds of men and women from various public safety departments worked tirelessly to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to populated areas. After finishing their t-shirts, the girls sat down and created handwritten thank you notes letting the brave police officers and firefighters know how much their efforts to keep us safe are appreciated. Thanks again to all the volunteers who came out to help with Chicktime. We couldn't do it without you! Come join us on October 8th and rewind to the 1950's. Chicktime Boerne would love to have YOU share your gifts and passions with the precious girls at Meadowlands! It is so easy!! If you would like more information on what that entails, contact Christina Paiz at cslopez55@yahoo.com or go to the Chicktime website and subscribe to our roster! A meditative and reflecting day at Chicktime
On Saturday, September 10th, Dr. Charlene Werner led our group in a beautiful morning of activities designed to bring peace and calmness to our world! The girls made bath salts that will be given to a family member or friend at an upcoming visit! They enjoyed concocting their own perfect fragrance for the salts and decorating the jars. We had a new group of ladies join us that are hooked on Chicktime! They not only brought yarn and needles to crochet hats with the girls that morning, but they donated a large supply for the girls to use in between Chicktime gatherings. They so appreciate the gift! Dr. Werner shared her wisdom of natural healing through light and sound, and we also taught the girls to art of Origami as they created their very own handmade envelopes. It was an incredibly restorative day. The New Life girls were impacted deeply and there were testimonies from the center that one particular girl had a huge turning point in her life after the Chicktime weekend... together we really do make a difference!

We are ready to fill the remaining open Monthly Chick Leader spots!

Making it Personal!

Chicktime Corpus Christi started out the fall season with a fun project by Laura & Angelica Mayorga. Since the girls love personalized items that they can use and take with them when when they leave, a colorful tote was the perfect idea! Everyone's creativity blossomed with paints, glitter & ribbon to inspire them in their beautiful masterpiece!

The most enjoyment came with the exuberant greeting the Chicks received from the girls at Bokenkamp! We were asked why we only visit once a month. Friendships blossomed as the teens taught each other Spanish and English words for colors and objects they were using on the totes.
The day ended with everyone looking forward to next month's Chicktime which will be October 22nd. We will be making tied fleece throws for the girls to enjoy during the cooler months. We are also looking forward to Bokenkamp's annual Fashion Show Fundraiser on October 15th. Join us on any month as we make memories and see lives changed (mostly our own)!

A Great Day in the Park!
 Chicktime Empowered was off to a great start at our first event pouring into the lives of kids at the San Marcos Preparatory School's "Day for Kids" event. Our Chapter ladies hosted a booth at Sewell Park on the banks of the gorgeous San Marcos River on September 23, 2011. The event was attended by some 300 kids and their families. We offered lots of popcorn, chances for kids to try their best throws at the Dino Toss and also at fishing for yummy candy! Kids also came away with colorful ribbon hats. During the festivities, God even blessed us with a downpour of beautiful, steady rain!! We are looking forward to next year's "Day for Kids" event!! Thanks to all the ladies who came out to help - JoAnn, Henrietta, Liz (her children dressed as clowns), Rose, and Dianne!
On Saturday October 1, 2011, Chicktime Empowered will host a Baby Shower for Central Texas LifeCare at SMPD Conference Room from 3-5pm. The baby shower will help to restock their SOS Store which offers CTLC clients a vast array of baby items including diapers, bottles, formula, clothes and also maternity clothes. The items in the SOS Store are purchased with points earned by clients attending classes on subjects from prenatal care to child rearing. CTLC is a Christian organization that firmly believes that each client that enters their building definitely has an appointment with God. Their services range from pregnancy tests, STD testing, sonograms for pregnant women, PACE, Abstinence Training, etc. All of their services are offered free of charge to all clients. Please contact Henrietta at 512-878-9827 if you have any questions.

Dig it!!
San Antonio Magic Volleyball teamed up with Chicktime this month. Coach Desiree Arredondo, who coaches the 14's (yrs old) national team at SA Magic, brought some of her players (some of which are also "Chicks") to St.Pjs Children's Home. They, along with the Chicktime chicks, practiced passing, serving, and hitting with the girls at St.PJs.
Coach Desi brought alot of energy to the court while sharing her passion for volleyball. The girls had a blast with all the different drills and games she taught them. They also got their pick of a T-shirt, socks, or water bottles donated by SA Magic. Coach Desi had her volleyball players sign a few of the volleyballs and donate them to St. Pjs so the girls could continue to work on their game!
What a blessing to witness someone sharing their talents, gifts and passion with others. Serving God through serving others. That is God's love hard at work!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chicktime San Antonio Loves Our Volunteers!
On Sunday, September 18th, Chicktime San Antonio held a volunteer appreciation party for all of the wonderful ladies that have stepped up and led an activity since we started in July 2010 and our most faithful volunteers. The party was held at Aldo's Ristorante. We had a great time reminiscing about the fun things we did over the last 15 months. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship of other women who share their passions and gifts with the girls at St. PJ's every month. We also unveiled the Chicktime Cookbook. All those in attendance received a cookbook as a gift. There were also drawings for door prizes-the ever popular Chicktime caps and bracelets! While the party was a celebration and a token of our appreciation, we can never fully express our gratitude to all of those who have made Chicktime San Antonio possible. God has truly blessed us by giving us all of these beautiful women to carry out our mission to help make the world a better place for the next generation.
We would also like to thank Aldo Gaffari of Aldo's Ristorante for his generosity in donating the party. The wine and the hors d' oeuvres were fabulous. We congratulate Aldo's on their 25th anniversary!
Have a passion you would like to share? We would love to sign you up to host a month next year. Email us!
The Power of Words!
Chicktime San Marcos Founder Lora Williams spoke at Texas State University Annual African American Leadership Conference on September 10th. The mission of the conference is to lay a foundation for educational success of incoming and returning African American students by providing the opportunity for networking and learning. The Empowering workshop for Freshmen through Senior young women and men was titled " Women Fashioned With Word Power!"
Words of a woman and man can build life or tear it apart. Words are the most underestimated power in our society today.
Proverbs 18:21 - Life & death are in the power of the tongue.
We had an awesome open discussion and God moved greatly as the college students had an opportunity to renounce, and release words that were hindering their lives. through spoken words & prayer.
It's early, quiet and my mind is filled with yesterdays delight. While thinking about the blessing it is to spend time with the children of Big Springs Ranch, a thought came to me. I can't remember a time in the gospels when Jesus was ever in a hurry, rushed, or to busy to spend time with someone in need. He always had time to spare! Most of us have lost that in the mad rush of this life. We move so fast that we have to keep our eyes on the road (no texting!), with no time for the landscape or the people in it. Please take a moment today to relax, pray, listen and look around you. Can you spare a little time?
Big Springs Ranch News
The fire boxes were filled with gifts, cards were written and the box was decorated! The report back from our liaison in the Bastrop area was that the outside of the boxes with the sweet artwork and words of encouragement touched each recipient and brought them to tears before they ever even opened the box. The girls were blessed by giving and it showed in their diligence with each box. Thank you to everyone who reached out and gave to make these boxes happen!
Saturday, we made soap and lip balm and let me say the word to describe it... FUN!! The girls enjoyed themselves and the activity, filling little soaps with different jewels and plastic animals and making yummy flavored lip balms. This was a great project idea, thanks to the leaders Alice-Ann and Tammy for helping with another opportunity for us to love on these children and plant seeds of goodness into them.
Thank you, Gaye Morris
What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring! This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together. Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.
Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
Please visit our website www.chicktime.com for more details and contact
