Greetings!
Vision. It is not reserved for leaders. In fact, we each have more than one. And if we are to live life in a way that produces fruitfulness and joy we must clearly identify the vision for our lives and pursue those visions above all else. There will be seasons when this is very difficult, like a health crisis or a relationship crisis, but we will come through even these low seasons faster and better than ever if we stick to our vision.
To help identify your vision, think back to when you were very young, say five years old. What did you want more than anything else... and what were you really good at then... what did you spend most of your time doing? If you sit quietly and expect answers to these three questions, they will come. What you 'hear' may surprise you but don't ignore these truths. They are keys to unlocking your vision and your destiny.
When I was very little, I loved to write. In fact, I remember sitting in a basket in our backyard with a pillow propped under me, my little typewriter roosting under my fingers, and my hair in curlers. What a picture. I also remember sitting in that same backyard in a circle with the neighborhood gang. We would take turns on those long hot summer days deciding what to do. When it was my turn, you could predict what I convinced everyone to do because it was almost always the same... we would write down stories... about our adventures (with many embellishments such as the sewer drain pipes we played in earlier that day would become caves filled with trolls in the written versions). I also remember when I was seven my dad asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I replied, 'A mom'.
I was lucky to have a dad who helped uncover my visions. You see, that same dad who asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up remembered my answer and sung it back to me throughout my life. That same dad was the photographer who captured the image of his little writer in the backyard and hung it in our home. He knew who I was and gently reminded me through the years as I gazed upon that embarrassing image of me sitting in a dog basket in my curlers.
I'm excited to hear what you uncover. Call me!!
Joyfully and with love,
Lori Rhodes Chicktime Founder |

God is calling us. We are listening, but until we each take our place the world isn't whole. That is why I am establishing Chicktime Empowered in San Marcos, Texas. My calling is to provide the structure and the encouragement for the women of San Marcos to uncover their God given passions and pursue them.
I am blessed to know that God is calling me to be a part of the movement in Christ regarding women's issues. The excitement I've seen on the faces of women who are walking alongside me, attending the meetings, and hearing my vision for Chicktime Empowered takes my breath away, and is priceless confirmation from my maker that I am truly treading on holy ground. During these meetings, I have seen women come to life with my very eyes right in front of me as a 'light' turns on, their creative juices surge, and ideas just flow out of them so fast I am barely able to keep up! God comes to life in them as we make this journey together, and I couldn't be happier. As a leader, nothing thrills me more than to see women come alive and then plug in to their destiny.
Welcome to Chicktime Empowered. We are here to empower the women of San Marcos to fulfill their destiny. Join us and find out what we are all about. Join us and discover how we can help you step into purpose and live your best life! Lives will change, not just yours but the lives of those you are meant to serve. There are so many hurting women and children in our area just waiting for us to take our place. You are the answer to someone prayers and Chicktime Empowered is here to help you find them!

I'm often asked, "Was Chicktime really your idea?"... and the next question is always, "Where did the idea come from?" The simple answer is this, I was sitting in a women's conference and God spoke to my heart. He convinced me to get out of my seat, walk out of those auditorium doors and into my destiny. This happened in 2006 at the Chosen conference. The speaker was Holly Waggener, and my daughter was sitting right next to me.
This month, on the 5th anniversary of the birth of Chicktime, Holly Waggener is coming back to speak at the fateful conference that changed my life. I encourage you to join me on September 23-24... God has something special for you just waiting to be discovered... and I would love to be there with you when it happens!! There isn't a doubt in my mind that this conference will confirm that you are indeed walking in your destiny or He will give you a vision for where He is sending you next!

A fun and creative morning!
The Boerne Chicktime event for August was pillow making lead by Sylvia Hogue with her daughter Victoria and her mother Connie. Sylvia brought loads of fabulous fabric for everyone! Connie and I brought our sewing machines and taught some of the girls to stitch their own pillows! It was very exciting to see the girls' amazement at what they made and what they learned. Some of them were scared to operate the sewing machines because they thought they would make unfixable mistakes, but we showed them that it's all part of the creative process and there's no such thing as a mistake- just happy creative accidents! The finished products were absolutely gorgeous and one of a kind! The girls were so proud of their creations and beaming with joy to show us what they made! As always they showed us their gratitude with hugs and special personally made thank you cards. It was a blessed time! As we approach our 6 month mark, we are thankful for each day spent with these precious girls and how much they truly appreciate our time with them. Maybe that hasn't happened before in their lives. We are in need of more volunteers to share their gifts with these girls. We want to flourish in our program, not merely survive. We want more women involved in order that they would be fulfilled as well as filling the hearts of the girls at Meadowlands. Please contact Christina Paiz at cslopez55@yahoo.com or Chicktime at info@chicktime.com to get plugged in! Volunteer Needs at New Life
New Life is in need of surrogate parents to attend the ARDS intake
and exit meetings that the girls have at Trinity Charter School.
Normally the girls' parents are the advocates, but since most of
them are not allowed contact, we use surrogates. Meetings are
held during the day each Wednesday. Surrogates can also
tutor their girl one on one during the school day.
Lisa needs helps in the Point Store for 1 1/2 hours each Thursday afternoon...
can you cover one day each month?
Are you or do you know a farrier (an individual trained in equine hoof care) that might be willing to lend services on the 2 sweetdonkeys at New Life? We are in need of someone willing to live life on the edge for this task!

Looking good!
 Our August Chicktime started out with one of our largest volunteer turnouts ever! At the girls' request, we brought in a MAC makeup artist to give the girls makeup tips & try new eye techniques. Everyone had a great time and we left them all looking amazing for their Saturday night dance! A couple of the girls were hesitant in trying the makeup, but were quite pleased with neutral eyeshadow and a little lip color. So, we left lip color samples for everyone! We also learned that mascara is a highly sought after item in the point store, so our guest left her
mascara for the girls as well.
Our September Chicktime will be on the 17th, and we will be decorating and personalizing totebags. We will also be having a planning meeting on September 11th from 4-6pm at 3742 Castle River Dr. Please RSVP: lovepazazdance@yahoo.com

Fun AND Sun! The members of Chicktime Denton were blessed to serve 3 precious girls this month. We split our time into two sections. First, we used the letters of our names to make positive acronyms about ourselves and our friends, we played the board game, Sequence, and had some delicious snacks. Secondly, we went outside for some fun in the pool. Several of the Chicktime members jumped in the pool and played water games with the girls. The girls really enjoyed that because the staff and other adults do not usually swim when they do. We invented a new game called Noodle Wiffle Ball. We donated most of the pool toys that we brought, so my guess is that the girls have played that game again! We had a great time overall.

Encourage Tejeda goes Chicktime

 The Encourage Tejeda girls had a blast hanging out with the Chicktime girls at St.Pjs Childrens Home. The August Chicktime activity was "Outdoor games" ...the messier, the better! Who knew when this activity was planned for August there would be record breaking high temps in South Texas! But that didn't slow down any of these girls..the Encourage girls teamed up with the St.Pj's girls and went from balloon toss to parachute toss to what I think was the favorite... "toss a cheeto on a shaving cream cap and hope it sticks" game..pretty sure that is not the real name, but certainly the most descriptive. One girl places a shower cap on her head and shaving cream
is applied ..all over.. the other girls on her team are allowed to toss a cheeto at her head.with the hopes that it sticks. The team who has the girl with the most cheetos stuck on her cap at the end of the game wins. The top winner of the day had 49 cheetos on her shower cap! Goodie bags were given out to all the game winners. After all the fun...and heat...we headed inside to finish our morning with a snack and a little air conditioning!
We are excited about about our Encourage girls 8th grade year. What wonderful role models they are for the younger students. We are looking forward to a year of serving, learning, growing and tons of fun!
God's blessings,
Donnette Tyler and Diane Godwin

Palestine News! First and foremost we want to say a HUGE Thank you to all of our Chicktime gals who helped provide backpacks to the Crisis Center kids! We are so thankful for each and every one of you! Knowing that 18 kids headed back to school with all of the things they needed to start the year off on the right foot warms our hearts! I like to think about those kids heading in the front door with their new backpacks and supplies holding their heads high knowing they are important and that there are people in this community that care!
Chicktime Palestine keeps evolving and growing in ways that we could never have imagined! We are presented with opportunities and obstacles that renew our faith in this group of women that we walk with! Although our roots will always be with the Crisis Center we realize that women have different passions and callings...so we would like to remind you of the REFUGE OF LIGHT that has touched our hearts. This is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to starting a home for girls rescued from sex trafficking. Please visit their website at refugeoflight.org and learn more about their group...and if it touches something in your heart that makes you want to help, call them! We will be helping with their fundraiser on September 17 from 11-3 at the Palestine Senior Activity Center on Church St. Our job is face painting!! How fun (and easy and creative and better than housework...) is that?! Sometimes I have to remind myself of the mission of Chicktime...ENCOURAGING WOMEN TO DEVELOP THEIR PASSION AND USE THEIR GIFTS TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION. We would love for our group to grow and expand and reach all of the wonderful places that each of us feels passionately about. If you have a place or a passion that we are not reaching, PLEASE let us know! We will be having our 2nd Annual Thrift Store Garage sale the weekend of the Oktoberfest, so if you are free to help or have great items to donate feel free to give us a call. If you are looking for something a little more fun and glamorous, help us out with our Chicktime Float. This year we would like the float to bring attention to the thrift store...so if you have any great ideas let us know. And the more pink shirts and powerful women on the float the better! So bring your daughter, mom, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and stand up for something important!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We are busy, busy with our efforts at the Crisis Center! Please plan to join us on Wednesdays from 9-12 when we will be working in the thrift store and can always use the help! If Wednesdays aren't good for you, come on down any other day of the week and give your time at this wonderful spot. First timers? No problem! We will meet you there and help you get acquainted! Please contact Tracy Calhoun.
 Upcoming Dates (click on the event to register) Be sure to check the Chicktime calendar for our upcoming dates! Service Reminder At our orientation we challenged each other to sign up at least 5 people a piece for The Good Samaritan Project!!! The race is on and we will give the winner their pick from our Chicktime Merchandise! The Crisis Center is truly a life line for many women and children in their darkest hour. We are reaching out to friends and family asking for their help with the Samaritans Heart Campaign. By agreeing to help all you have to do is pledge $20 a month for the next year. It is a small amount that can make a HUGE difference. If you would rather make a one-time donation instead that is great too! Every penny helps and no amount is too small (or too big!!!) If you would like a pledge card, please let us know and we will mail one to you or you can mail your donation directly to the Crisis Center at 313 W. Debard, Palestine, TX 75801. After you have signed up, they will mail a monthly reminder to you... How easy is that?! Remember also, that Donnie would love to come speak to any church groups, etc. just let him no where and when! 903-723-5858 |
Chicktime San Antonio Gets A Little Messy!  St. PJ girls were told to come to Chicktime this month with clothes that could get wet and dirty to play outdoor games and relays. Monthly leaders, Anna Nicolai and Monica Nally along with their daughters, Victoria , Madi, and Megan were true to their word...everyone who participated got a little dirty and wet! From games with parachutes to mini trampolines to sponges and buckets, the girls had various stations of games that made them laugh and just have time to be a kid. The girls loved pairing up and having a water balloon toss contest. That game was played multiple times! The highlight of the morning was the cheeto and shaving cream contest. The girls were broken up into four teams. One player from each team put on a shower cap that was coated in shaving cream. The other team members were given cheetos. One by one, team members tried to toss a cheeto onto their teammates shower cap. The team with the most cheetos stuck in the shaving cream when the timer went off, won the game. This game had even the adults smiling! Candy proved to be good prizes for all of our winners! As always, the girls were treated to drinks and snacks and left with an encouraging prayer for the new school year! Thank you to our monthly leaders for making us all feel HIS gift of laughter!
If anyone is interested in hosting a month in 2012 please contact us! The girls at St. Pj's need you! Blessings, Annette Goodson, Diane Godwin, and Donnette Tyler "If any man serves me, he will honor my father." John 12:26
A Weekend of Encouragement and Friendship
A few weeks ago, I had the good fortune to attend the Chicktime leadership retreat hosted by Chicktime founder, Lori Rhodes. I'm not actually a leader, but since Dixie, Gaye, and Kim are so involved in so many lives and projects, I went as a sort of delegate. It was so cool!
During the retreat, each Chicktime chapter shared stories about current projects, successes, and challenges. Wow! This was inspiring. I was impressed by the passion and creativity our Chicktime leaders have. Several groups support girls' homes like our chapter does; one group has raised money for school supplies for children in Watoto, Uganda; another is supporting women and girls who are victims of human trafficking. Human trafficking in Texas, not just remote Asian countries.
And the weekend was all about encouragement. Sandra Steen spoke to us about finding purpose (what's you dream?), and overcoming obstacles. If you ever have a chance to hear her, do ! She is a speaker and author from San Antonio. I don't have the right words in this little space to tell you how good her message is.
Chicktime Inc. is so supportive of our dreams! The Chicktime matching grant will double any money that we raise for a cause (up to $1,000). Lori and Jennifer can help us with planning, fundraising, brainstorming, mentoring, and will pray nonstop. So, if you have a little idea, or a big ridiculous crazy dream let the ladies in your group know, and let Lori and Jennifer know!
Something else that impressed me over the weekend was the friendships I saw. Down at the bottom of this Chicktime newsletter, Lori has written about deepening relationships with the women around us, building real friendships based on purpose and love.I know that many of our friendships are based on situation or convenience; and I don't think there is anything wrong with having friendships like that, but I know we need more than that!I saw so many friendships this weekend that were made or strengthened while working together on a common dream, motivated by love. It was awesome! Also, my being at this leaders' retreat had to be part of God's plan.There were books everywhere, 10 or 12 books by every bed, except mine. I only had one book by my bed (hmmmm); a book by Kevin Lehman with a message that I really, really needed to hear at that moment. And there was a plaque in my cabin that said, "God does not call the equipped, he equips the called." I really needed to see that after meeting all these amazing women who are doing amazing things.
Kerrville
Chicktime fever has spread to the hill country! A group of ladies recently held a Chicktime event at the Hill Country Youth Ranch and their day in a word was AWESOME!! Everything ran smoothly and, most importantly, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. They made smoothies, taught hula dancing, and even made hairclips and leis! The HCYR residents were very thankful and wanted to know if this group of ladies would be coming back! We are still praying for a leadership team for this chapter. If you or someone you know lives in the Kerrville area and would like to join a roster list that is growing by the day, please email us at info@chicktime.com.
Katy Chicktime Katy is in need of a leader. The Krause Children's Home in Katy is READY for Chicktime but without a leader... nothing can happen! If you would like to tour Krause and find out more about Chicktime Katy, email info@chicktime.com.
St. Judes This wonderful children's home in the Smithson Valley area would love to have a Chicktime group serve their children. Please email info@chicktime.com to learn more. We are building a roster of interested members so contact us today if you would like to be added to the list!
What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring! This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together. Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.
Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
