Don't see a chapter in your area, well maybe you need to think about starting one!

Greetings!

Okay, so I am going to state the obvious. The Chicktime Newsletter is longer than most newsletters out there. The last time I printed it out (which was a few months ago and I won't do that again!) it was 25 pages!!! Some people would think this is crazy... not me! I say, Isn't it great that we have the capability to produce e-newsletters that have great links for those who just want to jump to the pages they want to read, costs no more to produce and send than a one pager, and that we have so many people who love reading it? More than that... isn't it great that so many women are inspired to LIVE their lives in ways that create stories we want to read?

I encourage you to share your stories. I encourage you to maybe start your own Chicktime chapter. I definitely encourage everyone reading this (yes, men... you too) to encourage the women in your lives and communities to live in a way that creates stories they will tell their children and grandchildren for years to come.

This past week, a new friend put words to a sentiment that I live by. Produce. She talked about coming out of a year long depression. How she did all the right things we all know to do (pray, love others even when we don't feel like it, appreciate our blessings) but she also said something that I will never forget. She said that we can't forget to PRODUCE when we are going through low times. That we can't stay in bed and hide under the covers (or behind our kids, or our desks) but that we must PRODUCE.

What are you producing? I know you are!! Who are you encouraging to PRODUCE? If you are not pleased with the answer to this second question, consider asking a friend to come to Chicktime with you. Encourage her to develop her passions and gifts so that SHE can make the world a better place. We are here for you. Call us and we can show you the way!

Here is to a joyously long newsletter full of PRODUCING women! Enjoy!

With gratitude and joy,

Lori Rhodes

Chicktime Founder

P.S. Make sure to check out Chicktime Cooking for a Cause this month. If you would like to join us and are coming from out of town... you may stay with me! This is an incredible opportunity you absolutely DO NOT want to miss (not staying with me... cooking with Corrina!)

Are You a Woman of Vision?

WOV June 4, 2011 with Angela Mason

Women of Vision San Antonio

Jennifer Qunitero (founder), Lori Rhodes, Angela Mason , Tracy Hair (founder)

Women of Vision is inspiring women around our country to set up chapters in their communities for women who need a place to channel their gut wrenching passion to save our planet's children and the mothers who care for them. Our world is so full of incredulous injustice and for many... to sit around and lament is unacceptable anymore. We must use our voices to affect change. The commitment is as simple as agreeing to receive emails when important laws are coming before our legislature... and you are asked to call your congressional and senatorial representatives to ask for their support. Women of Vision's goal is to have 1,000,000 women on the email list who will agree to call their legislators when the 'call' comes. The scripts arrive with the request as well as links to the contact information of who to call in your area. I have been on this list for a little over one year and have received less than 5 emails. They are targeted and strategic!! Get involved today and become a voice in the choir that will end human sex trafficking, female genital mutilation, child soldiers, and sadly the list goes on. You are not powerless (unless you refuse to open your mouth!).  Can you imagine the effects on Capital Hill when 1,000,000 angry women call on the same day to cry out for the children who have no voice? I can... and I hope you join the choir.

Help us advocate in 2011 for new laws to protect women and children globally by emailing us at info@chicktime.com.  By joining us, you will receive news about laws and talking points to discuss by phone with your senators and congressmen as well as opportunities to advocate in person.

Find out more about Women of Vision in your area, by clicking here!

*note: there are many ways to get involved with Women of Vision, we will talk more about that in future newsletters... we just focused on advocating this month!

Flip flops all around!

Boerne July news

What do you think of when summer rolls around? Flip flops, of course! On

Saturday, June 11th we gathered with the girls from the Meadowlands

Children's Home and prepared their feet for the hot weather. Each girl

chose a pair of flip flops and then put their creative energy to use. From

classic and simple to BLING, BLING, BLING - hot glue guns were aflyin'! Our

high school helpers (Victoria, Pam and Jessica) provided free fashion advice for the teenage crowd while Nia and Nicole bonded with the younger girls.

Boerne July news 1

Pretty sandals are nothing without pretty toes, so bright nail polish was

provided and our Chicks helped with mini-pedicures. Our "summer feet"

project was followed up with a yummy snack from several famous Boerne

bakeries (thanks Sylvia). A few of the girls were brave enough to end the

morning with a fashion show to display their creations.

It was a great day. We just love building relationships with these beautiful

girls. A special thank you goes out to Lydia (Christina's awesome mom) for

gathering all the needed supplies. What a blessing!

New Life Barn

Serenity Barn at New Life

You and I know the many, many, comforts that our dog or cat give us daily.  The feel of their fur as we stroke away the days stress and tensions; the rhythmic strokes, easing us back to our "good place".  Regardless of our faults, our faithful companions convey unconditional love daily, regardless of our many faults.

The young girls at New Life Treatment Center do not have the privilege of a faithful companion, cat or dog.  The majority of young girls are wards of the great state of Texas, meaning that the treatment center must follow very strict and specific regulations, for their protection.  Due to the possibility of animal allergies, the center cannot provide animal companionship on the cottages for any of the eighty girls placed there.

State regulation does allow the young girls to have the "Serenity Barn".  This awesome barn, named by the girls, does allow them to have horses, goats, rabbits and to hatch out their own county prize winning poultry.  The daily interactions of these "city girls" are therapy for everyone's soul, including the staff, volunteer adults, and donors.

How aptly named is this oasis, "Serenity Barn"?  I can tell you that the description hits the nail on the head.  Several times a day, these girls earn the privilege of "going to the barn" to take care of the animals.  Somewhere mingled between the chores and duties, life's lessons are learned about responsibility, compassion, due diligences, as well as an animal's unconditional love.

These days, unconditional love is a sparse commodity.  Imagine being far from all that is familiar; the state making all the decisions for your welfare.  You are a, say ten years-old, living on a cottage with nine more girls who have been placed at New Life for the same reason, abuse.......physical and sexual.  Doesn't a place like "Serenity Barn" sound like salvation?  Doesn't the idea of going and taking care of an animal who will listen to your secrets as you care for them; offer you unconditional love as you learn the science of animal care and maintence sound like a piece of heaven?

I have witnessed first hand the healing power of the "Serenity Barn" at the New Life Treatment Center.  Since the barn poles were raised, I have seen the power that the barn offers.  Great and goods things are accomplished there.  The young ladies have won trophies and ribbons at the Comal County Youth Fair.  Pictures and details are on display at the offices.

As with all great things, there is a maintenance cost.  The barn requires a monthly stipend of $1000 to keep everything going.  The original grant is set to expire in July and is not renewable.  Bluntly, the girls will lose the barn if the animal's needs are not met through donations.  Small and large donations are needed.  You could pick a month in remembrance of a loved one, or pay a one time or a monthly portion of a year's worth of expenses to keep the Serenity Barn providing a serene place for these abused young girls to heal.  The rewards reaped by both the girls and volunteers, far out way the momentary discomfort of providing financial support to a great, specific, "welcome, come visit" cause located right here, down the road, below the dam.

Respectfully,

Amy Almond-Laechelin, M.Ed.

Educational Diagnostician

Leah Klock Day

We continue to celebrate life and love for our New Life girls by 'showing up' the second Tuesday of every month at New Life Children's Center. With the exception of an 'ice day' when New Life shut the roads due to dangerous icy conditions... we haven't missed a day since January of 2007! What an honor and a privilege!! A big thank you to all of our monthly leaders (we have had more than 50 women lead Chicktime). This past month, Leah Klock (pictured on the front row in the pink shirt) brought hope and joy to the girls by teaching them how to decorate on a shoestring budget. The girls were amazed that they could create beautiful spaces just like those in the magazines... for very little dough! They also dreamed of a home they would someday create for the families they will build... and with such a broken past this is no small dream!!! Please make the time to join us to 'play' with these precious girls. You will walk away with a spring in your step, a smile on your face, and a song in your heart!!

Volunteer Needs at New Life

New Life is in need of surrogate parents to attend the ARDS intake

and exit meetings that the girls have at Trinity Charter School.

Normally the girls' parents are the advocates, but since most of

them are not allowed contact, we use surrogates.  Meetings are

held during the day each Wednesday.  Surrogates can also

tutor their girl one on one during the school day.

Lisa needs helps in the Point Store for 1 1/2 hours each Thursday afternoon...can you cover one day each month?

Are you or do you know a farrier (an individual trained in equine hoof care) that might be willing to lend services on the 2 sweet donkeys at New Life?  We are in need of someone willing to live life on the edge for this task!

At our orientation we challenged each other to sign up at least 5 people a piece for The Good Samaritan Project!!! The race is on and we will give the winner their pick from our Chicktime Merchandise!  The Crisis Center is truly a life line for many women and children in their darkest hour. We are reaching out to friends and family asking for their help with the Samaritans Heart Campaign.  By agreeing to help all you have to do is pledge $20 a month for the next year.  It is a small amount that can make a HUGE difference. If you would rather make a one-time donation instead that is great too!  Every penny helps and no amount is too small (or too big!!!)  If you would like a pledge card, please let us know and we will mail one to you or you can mail your donation directly to the Crisis Center at 313 W. Debard, Palestine, TX 75801. After you have signed up, they will mail a monthly reminder to you... How easy is that?! Yoga & Zumba at St. PJ's

On Friday, June 1SA July news 27th, we had a great time working up a sweat while Zumba dancing and working on our yoga poses at St. PJ's.  The evening was hosted by Mary Coronado and Gabriela Jourdain, fitness instructors from GFit Studio.  We learned some new moves, made up our own dances, and had a partner dance-off.  After Zumba, we slowed things down and stretched with some yoga poses.   Afterwards, we cranked up the blenders and made some yummy and refreshing fruit smoothies.  The girls couldn't seem to get enough and wanted to try all different types of fruity combinations.   I think the adult volunteers had as much fun as the kids as we had the opportunity to act like teenagers again!

Thank you to Mary and Gabriela for leading us, and to the members of GFit Studio for attending and helping sponsor the refreshments.  A special "thank you" goes out to Laura Mendez of Unifresh for providing all of the fruit for the smoothies.  It was absolutely fabulous!

In addition to our usual monthly activiSA July newsty at St. PJ's, we sponsored a craft booth at the Lutheran Social Services Foster Appreciation Picnic on Saturday, June 25th.  The picnic was held at Heritage Duck Park in San Antonio.   The cupcake decorating was a huge hit as the kids made Teddy Bear Picnic cupcakes.  We

also provided supplies SA July news 1for decorating picture frames which was enjoyed by all.  It was a joy to see so many smiling faces.

Creative in the Country!

Smalltown group JUne 2011As a volunteer for Chicktime it blessed my heart to see so many smiling faces, older girls taking the younger girls by the hand and helping them work through each project and the love and genuine caring concern each volunteer had for all of the girls and the staff at Big Springs Ranch.

The three art projects we did Smalltown JUne 2011were greeted with confidence and excitement.  Each girl eagerly participated and it was great to see their own unique talent and flare on every piece of art.  They were all so proud to show off their work and tell about each detail.

Smalltown JUne 2011aThese girls may not have a home life like you or I grew up with, but the atmosphere at Big Springs Ranch is not lacking in love, comfort, spirit or the presence of God. I pray that God's hand would continue to move and work in and throughout Big Springs Ranch and continue to stir the hearts of the girls of Chicktime!

Food for thought: Have you ever wanted to deepen your relationships with the women in your life... with your daughters, your mothers, your sister, your friends... bring them to Chicktime and watch the walls come down... that is how the Holy Spirit works... walk in service to Him... and all your heart's desire will become yours. We can't explain it... we just know it to be true! And talk about new friendships... these are the real kind based on purpose and love.

What is Chicktime National
Chicktime logo with stripe

Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!

This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.

Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.

Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.

Please visit our website www.chicktime.com for more details and contact

We would like to encourage you to use the Chicktime Online Features from our www.chicktime.com website.

Newsletter/Chapter sign-up:

If you are receiving this email from Chicktime (not a forward), you are already registered online to receive the newsletter, but we encourage you to visit our website anyway and update your profile.
