Greetings!
Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a storm and not sure how to get out. Ever felt the winds of adversity swiftly coming against you and the feeling that everything is crashing down around you?
Maybe you have been there before, maybe you are experiencing it now. Chances are, you have. No one to my knowledge has ever had a life of totally smooth sailing.
Would you like to discover how to come through the storms of life in a way that builds you up rather than tears you down? Or better yet, protect you from the effects of the storm altogether? If so, I can help! In fact, I will hold your hand!!
Please consider joining me (in person or by book if you do not live within an hour or so of San Antonio.) You life will NEVER be the same. Many of you know my testimony... that I was delivered from an incurable disease... a disease in the same family that eventually took my mother's life. I learned how to come through the storm of physical destruction by the wisdom imparted to me through the teachings of author/speaker Sandy Ross.
This summer, Sandy is presenting an incredible bible study, one that the Holy Spirit has taught her over the past 36 years. The wisdom Sandy will reveal in this study WILL show you how to overcome and even avoid the worst effects of adversity.
Please let me know if you would like to join me... or if you would simply like a copy of the book. It is my gift to you! God has given us all of the answers to life's adversity... but we must humble ourselves and look to Him... not to our own wisdom for the answers.
With joyful anticipation,
Lori Rhodes
Chicktime Founder
To enroll in Sandy's summer bible study, contact info@chicktime.com or sign up online at www.summitsa.com. Child care is still available if you register for it online only.

Chicktime Inc. was recently awarded the seventh Annual Allegra FootPRINT Fund which entitles us to $1,000 in printing services from Allegra Print & Imaging in San Antonio, TX. Chicktime, Inc. plans to work with Allegra to create a new informational brochure about Chicktime and our mission!
Allegra is especially concerned about nonprofit organizations - charities, healthcare institutions, schools, trade and business associations and others - as they face increasing competition. They have to work harder to attract volunteers and generate funding and other sources of support. Allegra believes it is essential to help non-profit organizations to strengthen their visibility and name recognition in the communities they serve. The Allegra FootPRINT Fund award is a way for Allegra to show it's appreciation for the community that has supported them through the years by contributing to several nonprofits each year.

The Chicktime Austin crew will be traveling this summer and start up again with their awesome list of activities in August! |
A Special Day of Tea and Publicity! The girls at Meadowlands enjoyed a tea party lovingly planned by Rose Mery on May 14th! Since I was unable to attend due to another Chicktime event, my daughters, Nia & Nicole, gave me the heads up on all the fun! They served as the door greeters & sat all the girls at their beautifully decorated tables: white table clothes covered in white lace with delicate teapots, cups and saucers. Rose & my mom, Lydia, served tiny delicious sandwiches: pimento cheese, ham and cream cheese, and chicken salad which was the big hit with all the girls! They were also served scones with jelly, lemon squares with an icing drizzle topped with strawberries and raspberries, and little heart shaped cakes...a special recipe of Rose's. It was a feast for the eyes as well as the tummies! The girls socialized as they ate and visited with Rose & Lydia.
The girls looked as beautiful as the decorations with some dressed up in their best and others causal, but everyone was comfortable and all were ladies. The girls showed their appreciation by making thank you cards for Rose and Lydia. Rose was touched by the card with a teapot and cups on it, so much so that she is going to frame it as a reminder of the special day she had with the girls.
While the tea party was underway, my friend and fellow Chicktime sista, Jakie Liberto, and I were at our Chicktime booth at the Boerne Market Days enjoying the absolutely perfect weather and spreading the word about our awesome sisterhood while raising money for our Meadowland girls (and boys) for summer camps. Jackie shared a booth with me and was representing not only Chicktime, but her families' own ministry www.FreedomGirl.com. She was selling their first book, which is the first in a series. She was offering a special to each customer that purchased a book for themselves at $15, a second book could be purchased for $5 to be given as a gift to a Meadowlands girl. A second fabulous offer with the purchase of this book is once a customer reads the book with their children, they can go online to set up an interview with the publisher and another book will be donated to Meadowlands. What a deal! This offer is still available now to anyone interested in a great girl power book! It was great talking with so many caring people about what we do & why. We made a modest amount over the weekend, but everything counts and more importantly, we made some promising connections with people for future events and spread the word for all the Chicktime chapters! We had a very blessed time! If you would like more information on Chicktime Boerne, contact Christina Paiz at cslopez55@yahoo.com or go to the Chicktime website and subscribe to our roster! Happy Birthday!
 Ever wonder what you would do if you led a Chicktime Monthly Activity? Then look no further than what you already love to do. Our May leader Natalie Avalos is a self proclaimed lover of Birthday Parties. She absolutely LOVES to celebrate birthdays and so that is what she did this past May. Natalie threw a huge birthday party at New Life! For who? Absolutely EVERYONE there... the girls living at New Life, the staff who cares for them, and the Chicktime volunteers who showed up to play that day! And not just May birthdays, ALL birthdays!! Natalie brought a live band (not a little one but a HUGE band) and had close to a dozen very fancy custom cakes commissioned for the big bash (the fancy kind you see pastry chefs create on TV!). We had balloons, too much food, and oodles and oodles of celebration and fun permeating the air within the walls of the transformed New Life Children's Center Gym. I can honestly say that I truly believe that no one there has ever been so full of emotion (unless they were getting married or delivering a baby!!) The celebration Natalie put together marked something special for each of us. If you were there, you know exactly what I am talking about... and if you weren't... then maybe someday you will arrange a day of total celebration... for almost total strangers... for basically no reason at all... except that you love to create opportunities for life to happen. Welcome to Chicktime. I hope you join us soon. Our adventures are as unique as our leaders and you (and those you are serving) will benefit in ways you never dreamed possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sweet words from Chicktime Canyon Lake volunteer, Leah Klock... This morning I opened three letters I received, one letter was on my desk unopened for several weeks. Nevertheless, God always knows just the right time to give to us and replenish us. All of the letters were amazing and uplifting. The words confirmed that my "mail outs" to friends and family are paying off or planting seeds. You see I have received numerous emails, texts, voicemails, etc. regarding the Chicktime devotionals I sent to my girlfriends and family. With every praise report about the book follows a short, specific story about how the book has touched their life. Some have asked how they can get on the distribution list to purchase their own. Whenever I read a great book or booklet, etc., I love to share it with everyone. Unfortunately, I'm a little controlling so rather than give them the name of the publication to purchase, I just simply buy numerous copies and mail it to all! So, the point to this story is my friends are blessing me with their encouraging words because I sent them the Chicktime devotional. And I plan to continue purchasing and mailing all future devotionals to them for as long as I can. Lori, thank you so much for your support at the last Chicktime event. My heart was over flowing and I wasn't prepared for that. It wasn't anything negative, just overwhelming compassion for the girls. Each event adds something to my life and each event burrows a deeper place in my heart for the girls and for the ministry of Chicktime. The words the girls wrote on my card were immeasurable. I wish I could tell them how much they gave to me that day, how they made my heart grow a little bigger to keep them there. You know I didn't join Chicktime to receive, but to give; however, it seems I'm receiving much more than I'm giving. Wow, what a blessing! I could ramble on about these little blessings, but I still couldn't explain the phenomenon. Well, as you can see there is a pattern here... so many blessings derive from CHICKTIME. Thank you for all you do and I don't even know how much that truly is! The world is a better place with you and Heaven will be even better because of you!
Our Canyon Lake chapter will again run another "special" this month! Our fabulous and trendy Chicktime caps will be on sale for $15! Please don't hesitate to place your order at info@chicktime.com!
Volunteer Needs at New Life
New Life is in need of surrogate parents to attend the ARDS intake
and exit meetings that the girls have at Trinity Charter School.
Normally the girls' parents are the advocates, but since most of
them are not allowed contact, we use surrogates. Meetings are
held during the day each Wednesday. Surrogates can also
tutor their girl oneon one during the school day.
Lisa needs helps in the Point Store for 1 1/2 hours each Thursday afternoon...can you cover one day each month?
Making it personal...
We arrived at Bokenkamp to seven new girls, one of which had only been there for one day. We took in Spanish Bibles and scrapbooking material to make Bible covers. The girls seem to enjoy making things they can personalize. As usual, after a few minutes the girls begin to open up and talk through the translator. They found out they have several things in common with the Chicktime girls such as basketball and country music.
After the girls made their Bible covers, we ate a snack and then the chicktime girls showed the girls at Bokenkamp how to play the game "ninja". They picked it up really quickly and had a lot of fun. One of the girls, as they were exiting to go to lunch, stopped and told us she really enjoyed our time there and wished we could stay and hopes she is there the next time we come.
Gratitude Although we had to postpone our Saturday get together, May has been an exciting month! We have continued to work in the Second Glance Thrift Store and we know that each Wednesday we spend there is truly giving back to our community not only to Maryln and the ladies that work there but to all the families that shop there and most importantly to the women and children in counseling! Every dollar that is generated goes straight back to help victims of domestic violence. So,next time you are out and about, stop by and see some of the changes in the store and you might just be surprised by some of the unique things you'll find. Without a doubt the most exciting thing to happen in May was Chicktime Palestine received a substantial donation from a anonymous benefactor! And while our minds are racing with all the useful things this donation will help us to accomplish, our hearts are bursting with gratitude that this benefactor has shown so much faith in us! So, to all of our members who contribute so much emotionally and spiritually, and who work so hard to make Chicktime Palestine worthy of such a gift...THANK YOU! And to the generous person who remains anonymous, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Don't forget our upcoming Chicktime Saturday on June 18th from 9-12! Heather Calhoun is our leader and she wants to give back to the Crisis Center through some hard work! Whether we end up painting, cleaning or working in the flowerbeds or the store, it is guaranteed to make a difference and be lots of fun! So stop by! "He must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need" -Ephesians 4:28
Remember: On Wednesday, 9-12, we will be working in the thrift store and will really need your help! If you can't meet us on Wednesdays, it can be another day of the week! Just let us know and we will help get you acquainted!
Upcoming Dates (click on the event to register) June 18, 2011: Heather Calhoun July 16, 2011: Cindy Smith Service Reminder At our orientation we challenged each other to sign up at least 5 people a piece for The Good Samaritan Project!!! The race is on and we will give the winner their pick from our Chicktime Merchandise! The Crisis Center is truly a life line for many women and children in their darkest hour. We are reaching out to friends and family asking for their help with the Samaritans Heart Campaign. By agreeing to help all you have to do is pledge $20 a month for the next year. It is a small amount that can make a HUGE difference. If you would rather make a one-time donation instead that is great too! Every penny helps and no amount is too small (or too big!!!) If you would like a pledge card, please let us know and we will mail one to you or you can mail your donation directly to the Crisis Center at 313 W. Debard, Palestine, TX 75801. After you have signed up, they will mail a monthly reminder to you... How easy is that?! Remember also, that Donnie would love to come speak to any church groups, etc. just let him no where and when! 903-723-5858 |
Using her gifts...
The local RGV newspaper, the Progress Times, recently featured Chicktime RGV chapter and its partnership with local pastor, Mrs. Penny Cruz or "Pastor Penny" as we like to call her! Pastor Penny spent time the past few weeks using her gifts as a motivational speaker to encourage approximately 200 teenage girls in both the public and private school settings. the areas of abstinence, self-esteem and making responsible life choices. Pastor Penny used humor and candor to challenge the teens to make decisions that will set them up for success in education, relationships, career and life in general. Through the help of Chicktime RGV, each girl received a small gift.
Upcoming Dates (click on the date to register) Saturday, June 18 - Splash Party |
New beginnings...
We are excited about our NEW partnership with Gary Job Corp.! On Saturday, May 14, 2011, we held the "More Than Conquerors" Young Women's Conference. To see young women receive hope for their future through the Good News is fulfilling! Our focus is to teach, train and encourage these young women to live a victorious life...the life that God has designed is attainable through faith and action! We spoke from Jeremiah 29:11 "for I know the plans that I have, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope!" We prayed and counseled with the girls. Each girl received a package including the Chicktime devotional and calendar among other items, but most of all they left with a hope for tomorrow! We will impact the next generation for Christ!
Bracelet making day for the girls at St PJ's Chicktime San Antonio gathered at St.PJ's on Saturday, May 21st, under the direction of our monthly leader, Colleen Douglas, and her daughter, Katherine. The beautiful morning began with an opening prayer and then the girls jumped right into the bowls and bowls of beads! Jennifer Massey from jennthoughts.com donated all the beads and supplies for the St.PJ's girls and our young chicks to make a lovely bracelet. The beads were very trendy and the girls had a hard time deciding which ones to use, but all walked away happy with their bracelet that looked like they purchased it at a local boutique.
 The girls enjoyed strawberry shortcake, watermelon, banana bread, veggies and more! We served all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables so the girls could experience some yummy items that perhaps they had never tried before. After snack time, we split the girls into 2 groups for the Starburst Game! Each color of candy had a meaning and the girls sat quietly in a circle and really shared some thoughts and fun with each other. We made a huge circle and ended in a prayer. Since all the girls enjoyed the day, we are sure to make jewelry again soon! Praise God for a great first year for San Antonio Chicktime! May the blessings continue for all the precious girls at St. Peter-St. Joseph's Children's Home. Thanks again, to Colleen Douglas for her leadership this month! Join us next month for Yoga time! Note the date change as we will be meeting on Friday night, June 17th. Don't forget your yoga mats! All for HIS glory, Annette, Diane and Donnette May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. -Romans 15:13
Carry each other's burdens, and in this way
you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
Some evenings my phone rings too much. You know the feeling? You've had a busy day, eaten your dinner and settled in to watch the TV or read a good book. Then the phone rings - telemarketer, business inquiries, whatever.
But having a phone is more of a blessing than a curse, so I live with the annoyance and try not to complain.
Thinking a bit further...what if we all had to buy time to talk in general? Maybe we'd talk less...maybe we'd listen more! Listen to what other people want to say without jumping in to say what is important to us.
When people are worried or upset what they often need most is someone who'll give them time, by just sitting and listening. The Bible encourages us to carry each other's burdens and share their load. We can't always fix the problem and most usually shouldn't even try, but we can lend an ear.
In reflection the girls of Big Springs Ranch for Children have certainly given us an opportunity to listen. It has been a growing experience, a giving experience but most of all for me, it has been a blessed experience.
Many Chicktime Smalltowners traveled to watch with great pride the beautiful young men and women of BSRC graduate on Saturday May 28, 2011. What an accomplishment! What a praise!
I'm so glad for all the ladies who carve out space in their busy world to listen.
What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring! This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together. Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.
Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
Please visit our website www.chicktime.com for more details and contact
