Greetings!
Love. It's an action word right? A verb. Which by definition proves it is not simply a feeling. What does this actually mean then? Let me share.
Love is patient and kind (notice the verb). 'Is' means 'to be' so in order to show love we MUST behave with patience and kindness. Sounds simple and it is as long as we don't complicate love with our feelings.
Love is not envious nor boils over with jealousy. It is not boastful and does not display itself haughtily. It is not rude, or conceited, and does not act unbecomingly. Love does not insist on it's own rights or it's own way. It is not self seeking. It is not touchy or fretful or resentful.
Love is ever ready to forgive and gives no account of the evil done to it. Love does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when truth and right prevail.
Love bears up under anything and everything that comes and is ever ready to believe the best in every person. It's hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything without weakening.
Let me be clear. Every relationship on this planet could be restored if we simply began behaving with love toward one another. It is that simple. We are each not only capable of loving others this way, but we are wired to do so. We are ALWAYS seeking someone or something to love. The problem comes when we complicate the situation with our feelings... or neglect those in our lives we have promised to love forever and instead lavish our love on someone new (who hasn't driven us crazy yet... or worse... we falsely convince ourselves we have committed to love the wrong person therefore justify loving illegitimately!)
Please become mindful of those people in your lives that you 'have lost that loving feeling' for or have convinced yourself you've never loved. Meditate on the meaning of love, the Amplified Bible has a lovely definition in 1 Co 13:4-7. And most importantly, begin practicing love towards these people... and everything will change. If you don't give up you will witness a miracle in your own heart. I guarantee it!
With love and joy,
Lori Rhodes

The Pais Project
 | | The Pais girls (l-r): Holly Neil (Ireland), Charlie Enfield (England), Nadine Reibert (Germany), Hannah Smith (England), Miriam Haeberle (Germany), Megan Smith (USA) and Judith Lindsay (Ireland) |
This past Saturday, our local Chicktime chapter and the girls we serve were introduced to the Pais Project. We very often have new groups show up at Chicktime to serve so I wasn't surprised a bit by this beautiful bevy of young women crowded around our little make shift store in the parking lot of the children's center. However, I was surprised when they began introducing themselves as their accents were as thick as they were beautiful. We learned that these young women had come from all over the world to plant themselves in our local schools for a season, for the sole purpose of sharing God's love to the children of America and modeling that love in tangible ways. I think we tend to forget that there are hurting teens in our schools. US teens have so much, yet they can be so empty. So thank you, our special new friends for coming to our country and loving our youth. As Americans, we so often believe we are the ultimate givers... how humbling to know that there are people around the world with a heart to come into OUR schools and fill up OUR children with the love of God. The vision of Pais is to take the young people they reach and help them find their purpose to serve God. Pais is the New Testament Greek word for 'child servant to the king'. To learn more about the Pais Project, please visit The Pais Project.

The Pampering Station
We had a blast at our FIRST EVER Chicktime gathering at Meadowlands! We arrived ready to make the girls feel like princesses for the day! We were excited that 15 girls joined us for the morning! Our Chicktime team had all of the required supplies to soak feet and polish toenails, and massage hands and polish fingernails! Each girl was given tiaras and big funky bejeweled rings to show off their new manicures. We were blessed when the girls presented us with two big thank you cards that each cabin had made for us. They also wanted to give us a tour of one of their cabins. They were very happy to have us there and that made us happy to have shared our time and our talents with them that morning. We are looking forward to our next visit in April!
Chicktime Boerne is adding members to its roster! We invite you to join Christina Paiz and her daughters as they continue on their mission to bring Chicktime to the Children of Meadowlands! To sign up for invitations to Chicktime Boerne events or find out more, please contact Christina for more information at cslopez55@yahoo.com.

Oh The Drama!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Volunteer Needs at New Life
New Life is in need of surrogate parents to attend the ARDS intake and exit meetings that the girls have at Trinity Charter School. Normally the girls' parents are the advocates, but since most of them are not allowed contact, we use surrogates. Meetings are held during the day each Wednesday. Surrogates can also tutor their girl one on one during the school day.
We have had one person volunteer as a librarian, but could use another to share the responsibility. Each person is needed 2 days each month on Thursday. Help is needed during the school day for the girls to check
out library books and to help re-shelve books.
We have a computerized check out system.
Lisa needs helps in the Point Store for 1 1/2 hours each Thursday afternoon...can you cover one day each month?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Service Opportunity Each Second Sunday of the month, one of our Canyon Lake chicks takes a group of volunteers downtown to feed the homeless breakfast after a full helping of Sunday worship with them! We usually divide up the food needs for the morning among the volunteers. If you can help in this way or would just like to check out what we do, please register at Church Under the Bridge, Sunday April 10 at 8:45 am

Cooking is off to an exciting year! We have committed to raise $5000 for CASA of Central Texas and we need your help!! Our strategy is to expand our cooking efforts to include restaurants, bakeries, caterers, and any other culinary avenues to raise money for CASA. If you have a connection with someone in the food industry in Central Texas that might be interested in helping abused children, let us know.
For example: we have purchased a few cases of cookbooks from a local chef at cost and are selling them to raise money; a local bakery has volunteered to sell 'cupcakes for CASA' and donate a portion of the proceeds one day each month; we have a local baker who is hosting a cooking class with all proceeds going to CASA. We are open to all creative options and no $$ amount is too low or too high!
We are also hosting monthly tours to learn more about CASA of Central Texas and their work! To find out more about how to register for a tour, click the following link: CASA Voices Tour
For more information about the tours or to hook us up with new culinary avenues, please email us at info@chicktime.com
To order desserts or have a meal catered by PJ (with all proceeds going towards CASA) please contact PJ directly at pjoliver123@yahoo.com

Something Special Just for Them
 Because we realize that most of the girls arrive at Bokenkamp with little or no personal possessions, one of our goals at Chicktime Corpus Christi has been to try to bring activities that will leave the girls with something personal they can call their own! So, when one of our Chicks created painted initials for her own daughter's bedroom, she knew it would be something our girls would love just as much. She was right! We brought wooden letters to correspond with the each girl's initial, paint, colored stones and glitter...the girls supplied the creativity! The more artistic girls were very enthusiastic about lending a helping hand to those who were hesitant, while some prefered a simple paint job with a couple of stones or flowers added for color. At the end of the day, each girl had a unique, personalized piece of art to decorate her own bedroom. Come join us for our next Chicktime at BokenKamp will be on April 16th!

Encourage Tejeda

The Encourage Tejeda girls met at the home of Donna Pennington for some food, fun, and fellowship. After they enjoyed some snacks and "chit-chat' time, Carley Burke, a sophomore at Reagan High School, kicked the evening off with a fun relay race. She then spent time with the girls discussing one of her favorite Christian songs "Slow fade", what the song means to her and how she applies it to her life. She shared with our girls how the words in this song have helped her with different situations in High School. Carley is very strong in her faith and has such a beautiful spirit..what a wonderful role model for the Tejeda girls!
We look forward to April's gathering at the home of Keishla and Leishka Felix on Friday, April 29th.
Encourage Smithson Valley

SV Encourage at the Palladium Theater
In March, the SV Encourage group met at Larissa Garza's home for a meal of grilled burgers and then headed out with some of their moms to the Palladium Theater to view "The Grace Card" showing in limited theaters around the country and for a very limited time.
"Every day, we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal wounds by extending and receiving God's grace. Offer THE GRACE CARD ... and never underestimate the power of God's love." The entire group LOST IT during the movie as we were all moved by the events that were portrayed. After the tears stopped flowing, many of the girls quickly posted on Facebook how they felt at that moment. A few comments from the girls...
It was very moving and showed me how much grace God gives us and how He has taught us to give the grace back out to the world. It was also a very forgiving movie, just like Jesus forgave the world it showed me how i should forgive my family, friends and community just the same ~Melanie
This movie was very touching and heartfelt with the healing powers of grace and forgiveness! ~Abbie
If the movie becomes available on DVD in the future,
the SV Encourage group highly recommends you see it!!
For it is by grace you have been saved ~Ephesians 2:8

April 2nd is the first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser for the Crisis Center of Anderson/Cherokee County!
Come out and join us as we stand together as a community to stop violence against women! Registration begins at 8:30 at Ryan's Steakhouse. The walk starts at 10:00 am and finishes at the Mall. There will be a 100 yard Stiletto Dash with the winner receiving $100.
There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her ShoesŪ asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it's fun and it gets the community to talk about something that's really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We all have special talents, gifts, or just things we enjoy doing...so if you enjoy organizing, yard work, cleaning etc...look below for ways you can help! The Crisis Center has a very limited budget and most employees wear several hats so if we can help them out in any of the areas below, then they can spend more time helping victims! It's Garage Sale Season and the Thrift store is Packed! We meet every Wednesday from 9-12....so come out and help if you can! It is tons of fun but it also makes a difference! We are thinking about having a Saturday team to help out in the Thrift Store...if you are interested in that let us know!
Yard work is another area where we can help! If you or someone you know loves to mow, weedeat, etc. let us know! We have the job for you!

If office work or light housekeeping is your thing...we've got you covered too! Let us know if you might be interested in helping out in the office! April 16th is our next Chicktime and Kenda will be our fearless leader! She is extremely talented and creative so we are looking forward to it! Join us from 9-12 at the Crisis Center office! Upcoming Dates (click on the event to register) April 16, 2011: Creative Kenda! May 21, 2011: We need a leader! Service Reminder At our orientation we challenged each other to sign up at least 5 people a piece for The Good Samaritan Project!!! The race is on and we will give the winner their pick from our Chicktime Merchandise! The Crisis Center is truly a life line for many women and children in their darkest hour. We are reaching out to friends and family asking for their help with the Samaritans Heart Campaign. By agreeing to help all you have to do is pledge $20 a month for the next year. It is a small amount that can make a HUGE difference. If you would rather make a one-time donation instead that is great too! Every penny helps and no amount is too small (or too big!!!) If you would like a pledge card, please let us know and we will mail one to you or you can mail your donation directly to the Crisis Center at 313 W. Debard, Palestine, TX 75801. After you have signed up, they will mail a monthly reminder to you... How easy is that?! Remember also, that Donnie would love to come speak to any church groups, etc. just let him no where and when! 903-723-5858 |

A Magical Day to Remember in Nature

On March 16th the children and houseparents at the Rio Grande Children's Home had a special field trip to El Charco Nature Preserve. It was an afternoon of fun and adventure that gave them experiences they will never forget. As they drove in they got to see bison and longhorns from the windows of the van. The first activity was fishing from a beautiful deck and gazabo. Everyone had their own pole and experienced catch and release fishing. Some even have a new fishing story to share at school! Then we went back in time with a tour on a covered wagon pulled by a pair of mules. The wagon ride became a real life mystery, when we stopped for a walk and found bones scattered along the trail. The children, with the help of local biologists, solved the mystery of a longhorn that died and was eaten by scavengers. Then we came by a beautiful waterfall with a floating bridge to it. We had a great time playing around the falls and seeing all the trees in bloom. The next stop was the petting zoo where there were baby goats, rabbits, chickens, tortoises, peacocks and a dog named Rambo. In addition tothe live animals, they also had some stuffed (taxidermy) wildlife the children got to see up close including a rattlesnake, javelina and bobcat. We ate lunch by the lake followed by some good times at the ropes course and archery area. We participated in a bird birthday party where the kids learned about birds and got to make their own butterfly fingerpuppet to take home. The field trip ended with a trip to the rock quarry where they learned about different rocks and got to pick out two of their very own rocks to take home. By the end of the day their smiles could barely fit on their very happy faces!

Strike a Pose!
We kicked off March with an enjoyable morning on March 5th with our friends at St. PJ's Children's Home. Becky Fralix, a professional photographer, gave us all lessons on taking the perfect picture. We got tips on lighting, angle, props, background and the best type of clothing to wear. Three stations were set up giving the girls an opportunity to both pose and experiment with taking pictures using professional cameras. At the first station, the girls experimented with props such as flowers, jewelry, hats, and glasses. The second station was all about emotion as the girls had their pictures made in pairs or small groups. At the third station, Becky took portraits of all the girls individually in various poses. We think they all have a shot at America's Top Model one day! This was one of our best activities ever! The girls of St. PJ's were full of smiles and laughter. Becky kindly printed portraits for each girl which were delivered later in March. We thank Becky for her generosity and time, as well as all of the other volunteers that showed up to help.
Chicktime San Antonio volunteers please note that this month's activity has been changed to the evening of April 15th from 7-9pm.
We will meet at 6:30 to set up!

FUNraising on the horizon!
Chicktime Smalltown has been blessed by one of its members! When we received the letter from Lori, Jennifer, Mike and Terri about the "Matching Grant" opportunity, we were so thrilled! We have been working with the Big Springs Children's Ranch for over a year now and have raised money to meet as many needs as we can. A request had just come to us from the head of Big Springs for a playground for the little ones. Soon after receiving this letter we received an email from our member, Susan Knowles, telling us that she and her husband wanted to bless Smalltown with the proceeds from their annual "Pete Knowles Memorial Poker Tournament" which will be held in April. What a blessing and a gift. With the $1000 matching grant from Chicktime we will have approximately $4000 to donate to the ranch for the playground.
God is Good, and so are you. We are so thankful for the matching grant opportunity and the blessing it will provide to the beautiful children at Big Springs! The gifts just never end with Chicktime!!

What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!
This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.
Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.
Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
Please visit our website www.chicktime.com for more details and contact
info@chicktime.com to set up a visit to learn more about how we can help you!
