Greetings!
Let's talk about joy. More specifically... those who seem to suck the joy right out of our day. You don't have to look far to find 'em!
One might say that the key to life is surrounding yourself with people who infuse you with joy rather than suck it out. The problem is...you can't choose your family (and sometimes your co-workers) and at some point you just have to accept that you can't weed out everyone in your life who diminishes you rather than builds you up.
So what is a girl (or guy) supposed to do when you live (or work) with a 'diminisher'? I'm not naming any names, but I have lived with these people at one time or another! And I'm sure there have been seasons that I have been one! I believe 'season' is the perfect sentiment when addressing this issue. Learn to see these people as 'evolving' and trust that they will grow and someday bring great joy to your life. For example, how many of us have had meddling mothers who we wished we could get away from...only to crave their time and attention once we grew up? Maybe mom grew...or maybe we did.
The next time you are faced with spending time with a known 'joy sucker' or 'diminisher' try something new. Rather than focusing on what they take from you...focus on all that you can GIVE them. Who knows...one day you may realize this person is the one beauty on this planet you need most! And more likely...maybe you will discover that when you change your actions around this type of person...they begin to change...and the seasons change...and then one day they become the source of your greatest joy.
For those of you wondering who I am talking about...let's just say she lives in Waco, Texas and is now one of the greatest sources of joy in my life!!
Joyfully,
Lori Rhodes

 Hello fello chicks! My name is Christina Paiz & I'm so excited to be a part of this wonderful group of women that have listened to that inner voice inside that comes from the Holy Spirit! It's that voice I couldn't ignore that brought me to this very God given assignment!
It happened when my two beautiful daughters met a few girls on their school bus that live at a nearby group home for girls. We found out that these girls had lived an undesirable life not by their choice & they could no longer live with their own parents. My daughters got to know these girls very well & their hearts were troubled with wanting to do something for them. So we made arrangements to visit one of their friends there, a very special girl to us. But it wasn't enough; now all of our hearts were burdened to do more, not just for our special friend, but also for the other girls at the group home as well... enter Chicktime! What a blessing for us to find out about what more we could do & it all happened in God's timing (isn't He just the greatest?!)!
Our vision for Chicktime Boerne can be summed up with a song; a song my daughters & I heard while we were getting our chapter started. The song is titled "I Refuse" & the words say it all- "I refuse to sit around & wait for someone else to do what God has called me to do myself. No, I could choose not to move, but I Refuse!"
I'm so thankful that God hears our prayers & is using us as His vessel to positively affect the lives of these beautiful & special children who are gifts from God. We are honored that God is using us to show these precious girls His love.
Blessings on all my sista Chicks out there!
Christina Paiz & daughters, Chicktime Boerne

Our global efforts continue!
Our first microfinance loan was successfully funded in the amount of $850! Way to go chicks! Read below on our newest entrepreneur!

Samneang Kheom is one of the Khmer noodle producers in her village. She came up with the business idea when she found out that there was a demand for noodles in her community. Because there are so many competitors, Samneang has to ensure that her product is of better quality. She needs to invest to improve her production process and expand her business. Without funding from World Vision, she would have to borrow for a high interest loan. She hopes to one day hire laborers to increase her production and provide jobs. She hopes to also send her child to school so she can someday earn more.
The World Vision-affiliated VisionFund Cambodia microfinance institution does things like educate entrepreneurs about microfinance, disburse loans, and manage repayments. This gives impoverished rural people a chance to back away from local moneylenders and begin sustainable employment opportunities. Thank you for being a part of making their dreams a reality!

A day spent encouraging others...
The Smithson Valley Encourage group led our February event at New Life and though we were small, we were blessed with other wonderful volunteers to help hang out and carry on our programs for the morning! We enjoyed decorating and later eating heart shaped valentine cookies for our snack! The cookies were made by our very own Cooking for a Cause leader, PJ Oliver! The girls also played board games and cards in one of the rotations.
 We also have the fun opportunity to be creative and caring at the same time! We designed Valentine's day cards complete with an encouraging message inside that were distributed the next day to the homeless in sacks of breakfast foods prepared for them. We also designed and painted posters using encouraging messages. These posters will be used to decorate the space used for an Epiphany ministry weekend in which volunteers bring the message of God's love to boys in juvenile detention.
We are so thankful for the desire that the girls at New Life have to care for those they do not know and cannot see. They are amazing examples for each of us!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Volunteer Needs at New Life
New Life is in need of surrogate parents to attend the ARDS intake and exit meetings that the girls have at Trinity Charter School. Normally the girls' parents are the advocates, but since most of them are not allowed contact, we use surrogates. Meetings are held during the day each Wednesday. Surrogates can also tutor their girl one on one during the school day.
We have had one person volunteer as a librarian, but could use another to share the responsibility. Each person is needed 2 days each month on Thursday. Help is needed during the school day for the girls to check
out library books and to help re-shelve books.
We have a computerized check out system.
Lisa needs helps in the Point Store for 1 1/2 hours each Thursday afternoon...can you cover one day each month?
Cooking is off to an exciting year! We have committed to raise $5000 for CASA of Central Texas and we need your help!! Our strategy is to expand our cooking efforts to include restaurants, bakeries, caterers, and any other culinary avenues to raise money for CASA. If you have a connection with someone in the food industry in Central Texas that might be interested in helping abused children, let us know.
For example: we have purchased a few cases of cookbooks from a local chef at cost and are selling them to raise money; a local bakery has volunteered to sell 'cupcakes for CASA' and donate a portion of the proceeds one day each month; we have a local baker who is hosting a cooking class with all proceeds going to CASA. We are open to all creative options and no $$ amount is too low or too high!
We are also hosting monthly tours to learn more about CASA of Central Texas and their work! To find out more about how to register for a tour, click the following link: CASA Voices Tour
For more information about the tours or to hook us up with new culinary avenues, please email us at info@chicktime.com
To order desserts or have a meal catered by PJ (with all proceeds going towards CASA) please contact PJ directly at pjoliver123@yahoo.com
This past month has been one of transition at Bokenkamp! Our volunteer coordinator is no longer with us and we are working with the interim coordinator to plan where we go from here. We have learned from this transition that the girls like our group the best out of all the volunteer groups that serve and they look forward to our time the most! The other women that work there also sang our praises for being the most organized with the best planned activities! That just says alot for the concept of "Chicktime" truly meeting a need! We had a display booth this past weekend at the "It's A Girl Thing!" conference and had much interest! This conference, held only in the Corpus Christi area, is designed to encourage teenage girls to be virtuous young women in a world that doesn't always care about moral and ethical standards. For more information on this fun conference, click on It's a Girl Think Conference!
Stay tuned for our upcoming events!!
Encourage Tejeda
Encourage Tejeda met on Sunday, February 27 at the home of Diane and Hannah Godwin. We began the evening by sharing lots of snacks and catching up with friends. Girls who celebrated February birthdays, brought a friend and their bible were treated to candy (an Encourage Tejeda tradition that the girls seem to look forward to!). We then broke up into three groups for a fun ice breaker involving foil, toilet paper, and plastic wrap. As you can see by the pictures, the girls were very creative!!
Our guest speaker, Channel Maze, shared with the girls her incredible journey of childhood abuse, alcoholism, isolation, and personal choices she made in middle school that led to addiction and other heartaches throughout her life. The girls were able to hear how God spoke to her during one of her weakest times in her life and led her out of the darkness. She ended her time with the girls by having an "ask-it -basket". Some of the questions asked were based on her testimony and some of the questions were questions relative to the girls' own life. This part could have gone on all night. As the girls got more comfortable they kept putting in more questions in the basket. Channel closed our evening in prayer. It is our hope the girls left the gathering knowing that no matter where they come from and no matter what choices they've made, God will always love them and they are never alone.
All for HIS glory,
Diane Godwin and Donnette Tyler
Fun 'n Games!
 Chicktime brought the fun of Chalupa to the RGV Children's home on Saturday February 19th. Chalupa is a bingo style game that is commonly played by families at social events in Mexico. In addition to Chalupa, there was a playdough activity where children could express their creativity by making things with various colors of playdough. More than half the children were new residents and this was their first social activity that involved all the children at the home. The camaraderie of both activities brought the kids together and helped them get to know each other in a fun social environment. In addition to the love and praise showered on each child by Chicktime, they also enjoyed nachos, candy, stickers and a teddy bear. For some of the newer residents, this was their first gift from the community and you could see in their faces how much it meant to them. This Chicktime event helped a lot in easing their transition to their current situation and letting them know they are loved and supported by the community. Next Month RGV Chicktime looks forward to Kite flying for our regularly scheduled event and a special spring break event at
El Charco nature center.
Real Beauty...
On Saturday, February 19th, Chicktime San Antonio, gathered with the girls at St. PJs for a session of "Extreme Makeover". With the assistance from hair stylists from The JC Penney Salon at Ingram Park Mall, the girls were treated to a new hair-do, complete with the latest hair accessories. In addition, they learned how important it is to maintain a regimen of good skin care from an early age from Mary Kay volunteers led by Director Melissa Ozuniga. From our opening prayer to our goodbyes for the day, we kept the encouraging words flowing about how real beauty comes from within and to let others see their light shining within them. From the looks on their faces, we could see the sparks in some of the girls!
As a special post Valentine day treat, the girls were blessed with a delicious catered lunch of Mexican food. Special thanks to our February Chicktime leaders, Teri Villanueva and Diana Flores who have been so committed to the mission of Chicktime San Antonio from the beginning. We ask that our our Chicktime family say a prayer for their mother, Irene Vargas, as she recovers from cancer surgery.
Joy in serving
A Note From Chicktime Member Jessie Powell...
New Year's Resolutions! Every year I resolve not to make any (for fear of failure!) or I write down some worthwhile goals then put them on the back burner because I've got a whole year, right? Always on my list is to give more, to enjoy more, and to get out of my little rut more. When I joined Chicktime last year, I made a big step without even knowing it.
What a lovely group of women! Warm, generous, creative, practical, fun, talented, loving ladies.
Our trips to Big Springs Ranch Children's Home to visit the girls made me nervous at first. I have teenage boys and I didn't understand that teenage girls are really, truly very happy to just chat and paint nails, and don't get bored if there's nothing to throw, climb, conquer or dismantle. The girls are precious! They seem to enjoy all the activities, attention and hugs.
I don't get to Big Springs every month, and that's okay. I'm doing what I can and enjoying it. And I have recently realized that I am being encouraged, just like my pink t-shirt says on the back! There's a tutoring program that sounds like fun. (I can't believe I just said that.) A first-grader needs help with her math homework and sounding out the big words in the easy readers. I can do that! I've been through first grade three times recently with my three kids. So I've signed up at the Henry de Osso Family Center, and I get to meet my new little girl soon.
Thanks, ladies! For the encouragement and friendship!
What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!
This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.
Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a leadership retreat each fall and Discover Chicktime events throughout the year.
Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
Please visit our website www.chicktime.com for more details and contact
info@chicktime.com to set up a visit to learn more about how we can help you!
