Publication Photo Lori Rhodes colorGreetings!

Life is full of important stuff!

I would like to take a moment to honor and give place to THE MOST important 'stuff' in each of our lives. Our families. Take the time to just sit and soak up the last few lazy days of summer left with your loved ones. Make time to just 'be' a family. You can certainly create magic moments with exotic trips... but some of the most magical moments will just happen if you spend enough time with someone.

A friend of mine once told me that I seem to enjoy the 'in betweens'. I was puzzled by what she said and asked her to clarify. She said that our family photos are mostly of times 'in between' important events and trips. The reality is that we just don't travel that much... but her insight showed me that I guess we really do simply enjoy the simplicity of life and it is reflected in our photo albums.

With that said, I'm heading outside. The laughter of my children splashing in the pool is intoxicating and I don't want to miss another moment!

Joyfully and with love,

Lori

P.S. This is one of my favorite newsletters of all time. The smiling faces of the volunteers and the children have filled me up! I am so very honored to be a part of your lives... thank you for sharing your stories with me!

Thank You July Leaders and Volunteers!

The Canyon Lake Chicktime chapter was blessed with the organizational and accounting talents of our leader, Pam Vandermey-Collins in July!  We spent an educational morning with 10 ladies sharing about their professions.  Why did they choose these paths?  It was amazing to hear how their life circumstances brought them to their careers of choice!  We heard from nurses, telecommunications specialists, pharmacists, court reporters, personal fitness trainers, accountants and more!  The girls also spent some time working on household budgets!  They were given a certain amount of money and volunteers helped them make decisions on where they needed/wanted to put their hard earned dollars.  The girls found it very educational and challenging!

The girls had a busy month and after finding a free day we decided to treat them to a day at the pool with lunch. Many of our Chicktime ladies were busy or had prior commitments, so three of us accompanied them that day. Two of our girls swam, while the others just relaxed in the shade with a cool beverage.  We even had a chance to "shoot some hoops" for a bit.  I think they got a good laugh at watching me (Denise) try to play one-on-one.

Currently, there are only five girls at the home and one of those young ladies arrived the day before our Chicktime. We feel blessed to have them as part of our lives and to share a day with them once a month, since they look forward to it each time we meet.  The house mom even stated that they were impatient to get going to Chicktime, since she was
a little behind schedule for the day.

Many of our girls knit and have volunteered to show us how to do a small project in the future.  We are excited about having them share this skill with us and our young daughters who attend.

School is approaching in a few weeks and two of our girls are Seniors this year!  Schedules are going to get crazy, but we know they are always ready for some CHICKTIME!

Happy Summer from the Concho Pearls!

Chicktime InCourage

Smithson Valley Chapter
The Chicktime InCourage group is really enjoying its bible study for teenage girls called "A Daughter's Worth" by Ava H. Sturgeon.  This study gets at the core of encouraging each girl to recognize their worth.  We have studied God's viewpoint on topics such as true beauty, dealing with emotions, choosing good friends and still have to ahead of us dating with discreation, finding God at school and fulfilling their purpose to name of few.  Some of these topics are universal concerns and others look at modern day struggles.  The group study offers an opportunity for the girls to share their personal struggles which can be very common among the group.  They are not alone.  The study offers the opportunity for them to get in the Word daily, to pray and then apply the study practically in their lives.  If you are looking for a study to do with your teenage daughter or a group of teeneage girls that you mentor, we encourage you to give this beautiful book a chance.

Chicktime RGV
The arrival of seven siblings ages four months to sixteen led to the Children's Home status as "Full House" this past week.  We hosted twenty students and five host parents July 31.  This month's event marked our highest participation yet form the children.

Thirteen school-aged children reside at the Children's Home.  Most RGV school districts begin classes August 23.  We would like to provide backpacks with basic school supply to the thirteen school-age children.  The estimated costs for each backpack is $30.  If you would like to donate supplies or money to help this month's August service, please contact Natalie Basham at nova_nm@yahoo.com or 956 878 3176.  Assembly and distribution of the bags will take place August 19 (between 6 - 8PM) and August 20 (9 - 11AM).

Over the past two months, I've reflected on how we can improve communication and service the latter part of 2010. The staff and children from the home have certainly appreciated the generosity from Chicktime supporters and volunteers over the last seven months. After a brief brainstorming session after today's event, we want to take time this August to recognize volunteers and supporters as well as organize ourselves for the remainder of the year.

RGV Aug Mark your calendars for an informal gathering of Chicktime volunteers, supporters, and new members August 28th from 11:00AM - 1:00PM at Sweet Temptations in McAllen.  The purpose of the meeting is to set a calendar for the rest of the year and choose leaders for the Chicktime RGV Chapter.  After seven months, we really want to ensure we are more organized and improve the flow of information between members.  We also want to celebrate the contributions to the west Rio Grande Valley made through RGV Chicktime this past year.  Come with your ideas, a friend, and passion to celebrate our mission and help plan the end of a great inaugural year.

BAKING AT ST. PJ'S

On July 17th Chicktime San Antonio volunteers put on a baking activity for the teen girls at St. PJ's Children's Home.  The gathering was kicked off with a presentation on kitchen safety and hygiene followed by baking tips and tricks.  The girls then broke out into 6 groups where they each prepared a different dessert recipe under the guidance of a Chicktime leader.  The recipes they made were:  Oreo Truffles, Dessert Pizza, Laura Bush's Cowboy Cookies, Banana Pudding, All Seasons Lemon Trifle, and Mini Ice Cream Cookie Cups.

The best part was the sampling after all desserts were completed.  When asked which dessert was their favorite, of course all of the girls picked the one they prepared.  They were so proud of their creations.  The girls and volunteers all had a great time!  The gathering was wrapped up with the reading of a beautiful Seashell Meditation written by Paige Parker.

This month's activity was organized by Annette Goodson and Liz Kall Perry.  We appreciate all of the volunteers that showed up to help.  Special thanks go out to group leaders Mary Winterrowd, Laura Anderson, Melissa Powell, Cathy Galle, Krista Heiser, and Sara Stulga for providing their recipes, ingredients, kitchen tools and guidance.

Join us next month as we play Bunco at St. PJ's!

Chicktime Smalltown
st frio

Chicktime Smalltown enjoyed a wonderful time at the Frio River, complete with swimming, great hamburgers, and laughs!  The girls really loved getting off the ranch for a change. Thank you... volunteer leaders and all that came to make it special for the girls!

We have been meeting with the Big Springs Ranch personal to form and kick off a mentoring program.  It is finally time to get going and all those who have volunteered to be mentors are excited to begin. We all have different memories of our growing up years. Some have good memories and some not so good.  My childhood was a mixture of both, but in my teen years I had an incredibly hard time with my self esteem. I constantly felt alone and inferior, leading to feelings of failure and frustration. I believed I did not matter and did not make a difference.  Because of my home situation there was no one there to speak words of truth over me.  My truth was louder than any other truth.  But the truth was, I  believed lies.  Lies come to us in the same ways as truth. They come through our eyes and ears; they come through our heart and mind.  We are so blessed to be a loving voice in the life of a child that might not otherwise have anyone speaking truth and acceptance to them.  If you want to be a voice in the life of a young girl through CT mentoring program please contact me.

Asking the question of Why Chicktime? Call or email Lori and lets girl talk!!!

Food for thought: Have you ever wanted to deepen your relationships with the women in your life... with your daughters, your mothers, your sister, your friends... bring them to Chicktime and watch the walls come down... that is how the Holy Spirit works... walk in service to Him... and all your heart's desire will become yours. We can't explain it... we just know it to be true! And talk about new friendships... these are the real kind based on purpose and love.

What is Chicktime National
Chicktime logo with stripe

Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!

This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.

Our conversations at the national events always seem to boil down to a common theme... the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National offers a mission or leadership trip each spring, a summer retreat just for fun, as well as our national conventionuld in the fall.

Chicktime Gear
To purchase Chicktime Gear contact your local Chicktime Chapter. All proceeds go towards their local charities.

Chicktime Gear is available wholesale only to Chicktime Chapters. Contact lori@mlrhodes for current wholesale pricing.

If you would like to charter a Chicktime Chapter, contact Lori as well!

We are available to come out and set up a booth at your next event. All proceeds from the booth will go towards Chicktime Charities!

What is Chicktime

Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
