Greetings!
The best thing about the New Year is the fresh start!
On New Year's Day I asked my husband to forgive me for everything I've ever done to hurt him... he laughed... and then asked me to forgive him, too. I've thought a lot about where the year will take me, and had an epiphany moment. I will undoubtedly make lots of mistakes in 2010, but I will be making them while accomplishing what I was put on this earth to do. I am living with purpose and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that when God looks down on me He is smiling and saying, "That one is for Me."
As you are putting away the last of the Christmas lights, and determining what to re-gift and what to take back, make sure you spend a quiet moment and find out if you are going in the right direction as you embark on this new year. Make sure you are spending your time doing what makes your heart sing, your eyes dance, and your smile light up the room!
I am.
Joyfully,
Lori Rhodes Chicktime Founder
P.S. When you live with passion, you get to meet remarkable people, check out the article for men in this newsletter and find out how YOU can be that remarkable person in the life of a young man or woman waiting to be inspired by your story! :)

This month's feature article is from the perspective Monica von Waaden, who co-founded Chicktime Austin. There is no question that Chicktime groups are the outflow of the gifts placed in the hearts of their founders, and Monica has a special way of communicating that truth. Enjoy!
Full Circle
Have you ever wondered why God places some people in your life, why they become your friends, why they have the capacity to show you your true purpose? Well, I am fortunate enough to know the answer s to these questions. My friends and partners in Chicktime Austin, Kimberly Terry and Kelley Worden were placed in my life many years ago and we have traveled in various social circles always enjoying a hello, a birthday celebration, some school function, or enjoyed coordinating PTA and community events together. Yes, always pouring our energy into each event, but for me, really never satisfying my need to really make a difference. In my life before children I was a lawyer dedicating my time representing battered women and their children. I knew I was making a difference.
Kimberly and Kelley have given me the opportunity to work with them in creating Chicktime Austin where I know each one of us brings our different talents to create a small space in time where we are making a difference to God's most precious creations. We are fortunate to serve the children of the Texas Baptist Children's Home in Round Rock Texas where we will share our hearts, our talents and the best of ourselves. Again, I know that I, now turned We, will make a difference. Through God's hand, he has brought me Full Circle through my very special friendship with Kimberly and Kelley. Because of their dedication to serving others, I am right where God wants me, serving those in need of my hand.

New Opportunity for MEN!!!
|
J. David Bamberger founder of Church's Fried Chicken and Conservation Leader of this generation with Lori Rhodes collecting Texas Snowbell seeds.
A new Chicktime Group is in the planning process and we thought you might be interested! When this group forms will depend on the energy generated from this NEWSLETTER!!! A member of Chicktime New Life has a heart for encouraging young men and women who are trying to break out of the cycle of poverty but have very few role models... that is where she needs us! This new Chicktime group will serve the Central Texas region, plans to meet every two months with the purpose of exposing young men and women to local Texas adults who have either overcome adversity and have successful lives/careers now, or who have simply worked hard to build the fruitful lives they are currently enjoying. Who we need to hear from: ANYONE with the heart to speak into the hearts of young people, especially... Business owners (plumbers, electricians, computer technicians, mechanics, and other trades, etc.) Real Estate professionals (developers, brokers, agents, property management, investors, etc.) Medical professionals (doctors, vets, dentists, optometrists, nurses, physical therapists, technicians, etc) Financial people (bankers, loan officers, tellers, etc.) Those who have made their gifts their vocation (artists, chefs, designers, etc.) Scientists and intellectual professions (engineers, professors, teachers, etc.) Service industry workers (yes, even happy successful janitorial related industries), Pilots, military, farmers, landscapers, lighting experts, and on and on and on... Surly you get the picture, if you are happy and successful in your vocation, these young men and women need to hear from you! (We need women to speak too... just thought we should appeal to the men since women are an easy sell!) Please contact Lori Rhodes lori@mlrhodes.com if you are interested in spending one Saturday morning this year (about 30 minutes of your time) sharing your story with these young men and women. All have been abused/neglected and are in a work program building skills and habits to transform their broken past into a 'whole' tomorrow. BTW... Mike Rhodes has already signed up to speak and encourages you all to get involved. This is an excellent opportunity for strong men to act as a father figure/role model to so many who have none... **note about picture: We all know someone who has made our life richer simply by their existence on this planet. David Bamberger speaks daily to groups, especially school children, who want to make the world better. You can find David at his Selah Bamberger Ranch in Johnson City, Texas. He would LOVE to meet you! http://www.bambergerranch.org/ |

Chicktime Austin and it's three founding me mbers, Kelley Worden, Kimberly Terry and Monica von Waaden are excited to announce their partnership with The Texas Baptist Children's Home in Round Rock Texas. This partnership will enable Chicktime Austin to enter the Home and provide the service of positive adult interaction through fun activities and fellowship. Please check our calendar for the full schedule of events. How can you help? Chicktime Austin is looking for contributions of your very valuable time and your dollars to make all the activities at the Home happen. Chicktime Cooking for a Cause
|
Chicktime Cooking for a Cause had a great holiday season!
We raised over $1200 for CASA!
We were busy baking for 'Church Under The Bridge' and through the generous efforts of Jennifer Clark were able to provide hundreds of cookies for the homeless. Jennifer rallied support for the project and found over 20 donors to pledge $12 per dozen cookies! Double blessing for our area, the homeless were fed and we raised lots of money for CASA at the same time!
The Smithson Valley PTSA ladies partnered with us to provide holiday cookies for local teachers. Ladies, thank you for trusting us to provide the teachers with your holiday appreciation gift... we love to bake... and we love making a difference in our community.
Cooking for a Cause also did some catering this holiday party season and hope to do more as the year progresses.
Drum roll... in March, we will be baking cupcakes for a new restaurant opening in Gruene. Every Friday will be dedicated to 'Cupcakes for CASA'. We will share more details in the February and March newsletters. Please tell all of your friends about this new adventure in Gruene! Let's get the word out about CASA!
Thank you for all of your support... and keep it coming! Our business cards are ready and would love your help passing them out to potential customers. We are available to do family meals with a bit of notice, for you or maybe even for a friend you would like to 'treat'. Our home cooked meals are a great way to 'bless' someone you love who might be recovering from an illness, too busy to cook, or just needs a little reminder of how much they are loved! And remember, 100% of our profits are donated to local children's charities.

The Chicktime InCourage group had a fun and lively Christmas gathering
on December 20 at the home of Erica and Jennifer Clarke. Amie Jurica
planned fun games that all of the ladies participated in for prizes!
The moms shared stories from 20 years ago and the daughters looked
ahead at their lives 20 years from now. We all had to guess what story
belonged to which person...very funny discussion! We rounded the
evening out with smores by the firepit and an ornament exchange! Keep
an eye out for upcoming Chicktime InCourage events in the new year.
Chicktime InCourage is designed to bring moms and their freshman
daughters together in fun and fellowship to strengthen our
relationships and those of our peers.

Kathy Miner and many other Boerne women are interested in serving the children of Meadowlands Long Term Care Facility. These precious chidren have been placed at Meadowlands because their homes are no longer safe and there is no one left to care for them. Kathy is a self described 'Indian' in need of a chief! If you have a heart to lead women in service, please contact Kathy Miner today. She is a seasoned Chicktime volunteer and great to work (and play) with!

Lives were radically changed on December 5th as Christmas cheer was delivered to New Life. The stories are still rolling in (if you didn't make it, we highly encourage you join us for Chicktime in January!) We would like to share a couple of the stories. During Chicktime New Life in December, one of our volunteers felt moved to share the gospel with one of the New Life girls. That hour, Melissa (New Life girl) gave her life to Jesus and made a commitment to utilize the opportunity she had been given as a resident of New Life to change the direction of her future. I just followed up with New Life this past week, and Melissa has indeed made many positive changes since that day. She is no longer obstinate and self driven, but driven to make the most of the program and cooperating with the staff and the getting along better with the other girls! Awesome! The other story is about one of our new volunteers. Please read this carefully and don't take what we are about to tell you lightly. Lives change after spending time at New Life... the lives of the volunteers! While driving home, one of our new volunteers broke down and began sobbing, in complete gratitude for all she had previously taken for granted. Awareness of the intensity of the dire situations most New Life girls have come through, along with experiencing the girl's joy for their current good fortune and the genuine hope they have for their futures, we are all overcome by the goodness we already have. This new volunteer rededicated her life to Christ that very moment and there is no doubt that 2010 will be an incredible year of blessing for each person this woman touches. Bring your hurting friends to Chicktime and watch their joy return. We promise you will not be disappointed! Over 100 volunteers attended Chicktime New Life in December. Chicks came from all over the state! The San Antonio Express news was there (they published a fabulous article about New Life on Christmas Day...front page of the Life section of the Express News!) There are so many people to thank for such an incredible outpouring of love for the abused/neglected/abandoned children currently calling New Life home... that we feel compelled to simply thank our Father in Heaven... for we truly believe that without Him, our hearts would not have been stirred or our feet given the direction to move towards New Life this December. We are simply His servants answering His call. Amen! Fundraising update: Only $19,000 to go and the girls will have the new furniture. For those of you who haven't seen the current furniture... we encourage you to make an appointment with Lisa Brown and tour the cottages. Your heart will melt for these girls. There is something about the tangible love we offer these girls that speaks to them in ways counseling cannot. Action often speaks louder than words...
Goal: raise $43,000 to replace flood damaged worn out furniture in the 30 bedroom New Life cottages Status: Raised $24,000 to date To reach goal: still need to raise $19,000
WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Is official! Chicktime RGV is now a partner with the RGV Children's Home just north of 83 on Bentsen Palm Drive. It is a lovely facility and the children are really excited about hanging out with us! We met with the volunteer coordinator for the RGV Children's home and shared our group vision. He said that he would love to have us as regular volunteers working directly with the children at the RGV Children's home. They have a slot available each fourth Saturday of the month. Each volunteer must complete an application and background check. We will have copies of the forms at our next kickoff January 7. It would be great if we could submit the volunteer applications to the RGV children's home by Monday, January 11.
At this point we need facilitators for February, March, and June. If you are interested in coming up with activities for the approximately 20 children at the RGV children's home, please contact me at 956-878-3176 to confirm your date and share your ideas.

Chicktime Smalltown is so very grateful for the blessing of a growing community of amazing women who have a heart to give. Giving out of a sincere passion to live for more than our own interest is the burning desire which birthed Chicktime Smalltown in the first place. Looking back on the incredible events that have taken place over the past five months we give thanks to God for all the blessings. Looking forward to 2010, Chicktime Smalltown believes we will see many acts of generosity and servant hood as programs like the Non-Profit Grants Program and Big Springs Ranch For Children develop and grow. Fresh new ideas are coming from members and will be shared in the upcoming newsletters. Opportunities for everyone to give back in some way are available. We want to encourage you to develop your passion. E-mail or call us with ideas that you feel might be of interest to others- if you have a heart for it, chances are so will someone else. Invite a girlfriend, neighbor, or family member to join Chicktime Smalltown and become as involved as she wants to be. It is fun to serve others while getting to know other women in your community better. Nothing fills our souls like pouring our lives out for someone else. Dixie, Kim and Gaye want to thank all of the Chicks near and far for their sacrificial spirit and for continued dedication to the broken, lonely, orphaned, hopeless and hopeful all around the world. YOU can make a difference and you are!

What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!
This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.
Our fall 2009 event was an incredible night of friendship, new and old! The common theme of the conversations was the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National would also like to offer a Chicktime Mission Trip in 2010. Kimberly Huffstutler, Smalltown, is working out the details. We would also like to take a 'simply for fun' Chick Trip in 2010! If we have any Travel Agent Chicks in our group... we would love your input on the 2010 Chick Trip!
