Greetings!
Blind Side. I don't know much about football... but I do understand the love of a mother. We are all mothers whether we have birthed children or not... for there are children all across our cities, our nation, and world that cry out for the love of a mother.
Blind Side. No, we cannot always see the pain of those hurting children through our physical eyes... but we know it is there... and we are called to find it... and do something. It could be volunteering at your local food bank, buying a present for a needy child through 'Angel Tree', or visiting a home for abused/neglected children to celebrate life with them. Some are called to adopt (not me) and some are called to encourage those who do (me). But by all means do something... for when you do the love of God will become so present that you will want more... and that my friends is how our world will get better!
Blind Side... it is a movie, out in theaters now. Take your children (even though there are a few bad words) and open their eyes to the love of a mother. We all need heros, and why not start at home!
Merry Christmas... and may I say a special thank you to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who took Him in and loved Him!
Joyfully,
Lori Rhodes Chicktime Founder

One Blessed Day
On Saturday the 14th of November 2009, the 3 founding gals from Chicktime Austin and one of our honorary roosters (Mark von Waaden) headed to the Texas Baptist Children's Home (TBCH) to embark on our journey of service with the children living at the Home. We were ready for fun with Christmas crafts the children could give as gifts to loved ones, ornament making and the all important snack. What an amazing time was had by all. The room was abuzz with activity, chit-chat and laughter. While our anticipation and first hellos were tempered with sadness, Our Lord's gift of pure joy was shared by all as we promised to return in the New Year with more activities, good old fashion fun and of course snacks. Although prepared to provide the blessings to the children of the TBCH, Chicktime Austin was on the receiving end of all the gifts of November 14th for there is no greater gift than smiles and laugher of a child. Chicktime Austin looks forward to 2010 with the TBCH where we will give our hearts, our strength and hopes for lasting relationships.

Chicktime Catering for a Cause
|
P.J. Oliver, long serving Chicktime volunteer, is beginning a new adventure. Her love of good friends and good food along with a deep desire to serve the children of Comal County have come togehter in a poweful way.
P.J. has a heart for children pulled out of their homes because those homes are no longer safe due to abuse and/or neglect. Once in the care of the state, much attention is needed to ensure that these kids end up in a safe place to call home.
Catering for a Cause will offer catering with a twist... ALL proceeds will benefit children suffering from abuse and/or neglect. All proceeds for 2009 are pledged to CASA of Central Texas.
Call or email P.J. today if you are interested in volunteering with Catering for a Cause. Look for calendar dates on the Chicktime calendar for monthly 'tasting' outings and opportunities to cook and/or assist P.J. in delivery and set/up.
P.J. is developing her menu, focusing on just desserts for the holiday season with a full menu planned for 2010. Please make sure to remember Catering for a Cause for you holiday desserts!

Smithson Valley Teens raise $10,000 for Children
Beth Ann Erhardt had a great idea as the new school year and her daughter's first year of high school approached. She was being led to form a group of freshman girls and their moms whose ultimate goal was to step out in courage to encourage others both horizontally and vertically beyond their own space. Let's face it...these high school years for a young woman can be trying (and even more so for their moms!) Beth Ann reached out to friends Becky Elmendorf and Jennifer Clarke and the first "InCourage" Mother/Daughter gathering was held before school started! A large group of moms and daughters socialized independently as each contemplated the year ahead and new friendships. As a follow-up, there has been a sleepover retreat held at the beautiful Rhodes Reezort where they were presented with the Chicktime vision and became a part of the Chicktime family and given a new name of Chicktime InCourage! Most recently, the group was presented with an amazing opportunity to fill an overwhelming need in our city! Thanks to the partnership of an anonymous donor, the group raised $10,000 dollars and adopted 400 Child Protective Services' (CPS) childen as part of the Angel Tree project at the Summit Christian Center. Not only does the InCourage group feel called to love and encourage one another, but we are also reminded that Jesus calls us to love and care for those we do not know and who are less fortunate than ourselves. Lisa and Kelsey Hasbrook got in the spirit with their gifts (pictured above)! Your prayers for this group of girls and their moms is greatly appreciated! To contact us email Beth Ann Erhardt erhardt5@aol.com. |
Kathy Miner and many other Boerne women are interested in serving the children of Meadowlands Long Term Care Facility. These precious chidren have been placed at Meadowlands because their homes are no longer safe and there is no one left to care for them. Kathy is a self described 'Indian' in need of a chief! If you have a heart to lead women in service, please contact Kathy Miner today. She is a seasoned Chicktime volunteer and great to work (and play) with!

Chicktime November, led by Natalie Avalos and the women of Crossroads Church of Seguin was remarkable. The ladies prepared a homemade Thanksgiving feast for the girls. The gym was transformed into a fine dining restaurant, complete with tablecloths and gorgeous centerpieces! The girls were invited to go back for seconds and everyone got their fill. The table conversations were lively with lots of talk of traditions and memories of holiday's past. The most common holiday memory shared by the New Life girls was of the pumpkin pie... seems like that humble pie is the one thing that conjured up happy memories of the past.
Fundraising update: YIKES... we raised NO money in November! We need your help... is anyone interested in donating the funds for a matching grant? If so, please contact lori@mlrhodes.com. With a grant of $10,000 we can go to the local community and raise the money to complete the furniture drive. Yes, I did say $10K... I have high hopes... if the Chick's of Chicktime InCourage can do it... so can we!!!

This past month, Lori Rhodes, Natalie Basham, and Noelia Rodriguez hosted the first meeting of Chicktime RGV. The purpose of the event was to share the vision for Chicktime RGV service with women in the Mission area. The group decided to partner with the RGV Children's Home. Chicktime RGV is open to serve any needy group in the RGV... so let us know where your heart is and we will join in to support your effort. Anyone interested in finding out how they can serve the needy of the RGV with Chicktime, should join us January 7th, 2500 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. at the Bentsen Palm RV Resort Clubhouse beginning at 7:00PM. Yummy desserts and coffee provided!
In an area where 60 percent of children live in poverty, the high school graduation rate hovers at 60 percent, and health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer adversely impact quality of life, there is so many opportunities to maximez your talents to enhance our incredible community and show love and compassion for others. Through Chicktime RGV, you won't have to address those needs alone and can look forward to working with other women committed to service each month.

We are having so much fun here at Chicktime Smalltown. We started with 3 members in August of this year and as of December 1st we have 77 members. There are so many amazing women in our communities and they all agree that by joining together we can really make a difference! Each member contributes $250 a year. With those monies Chicktime Smalltown will award grants to local non-profits where we can watch our efforts make a difference. Chicktime Smalltown is all about Getting Together, Getting Involved and Doing Good. Once a month a group of volunteers head up to Big Springs Children's Home in Leakey where we meet with a group of 18 young women. The girls seem to love the program and we're told they really look forward to our visits. In October Beth Downing, Anabel Rocha-White and Rachel Hesse had a pumpkin decorating project, volleyball game and zucchini bread bake-off. The girls really enjoyed themselves, and there were pumpkin seeds and flour everywhere! In November Revis Leonard, Kristi Gerdes and Karen Baen were our fearless leaders as we learned a cheerleading dance, made Christmas Packages for our service men and women (including hand-made Christmas cards by each of the girls), and made hand-dipped chocolate pretzels....Yummy. Our October gathering at the Country Club of Chicktime Smalltown members proved that the "Each One, Reach One" campaign is working. Our members all brought prospective future members and we've had 9 new members in the past month. We are busy sending out Grant Request letters and looking forward to the Grant Review process with our members. We will award our grants at the end of Year One at our Annual Party. Our theme for Year One is, "Transforming the Lives of Women and Children".

What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!
This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.
Our fall 2009 event was an incredible night of friendship, new and old! The common theme of the conversations was the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National would also like to offer a Chicktime Mission Trip in 2010. Kimberly Huffstutler, Smalltown, is working out the details. We would also like to take a 'simply for fun' Chick Trip in 2010! If we have any Travel Agent Chicks in our group... we would love your input on the 2010 Chick Trip!
