Greetings!
I sometimes feel the pain around me too deeply, and that is when I am so glad I read the Bible... I find pearls that sustain me. Like the other day when I was grieving over young children being kidnapped and sold into the sex slave trade... how they are forced to service their 'clients' up to 20 times each day... and the Word of the Lord spoke into my spirit and soothed my soul. God wants us to drink the blessings of a fruitful life in Christ... but also to care for the lost, the broken, the hungry, the suffering. He wants both from us... joy that we know His grace is enough... and a giving spirit to be the hand that delivers his blessing to others.
As we gear up for the
holidays... I have to remind myself to slow down and take in all that I
have to be grateful for... and that is why I love the Thanksgiving
holiday.
Our communities have a lot to be thankful for too! Three new Chicktime groups have formed over the past few weeks... which means three new armies of women will soon be storming this world to make an impact in the lives of impoverished, abused, and/or neglected children. Women are taking a stand and we say in unison... not on my watch will the women of this world sit back and do nothing as long as the suffering are amongst us!
Enjoy the holidays! Enjoy the blessings around you everyday!
Joyfully,
Lori Rhodes
Chicktime Founder
"... go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold." Ne 8:10

This month, Laura Trujillo, an 18 year old member of the Girls for God ministry from Park Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX shares her thoughts about Chicktime. Each month, we plan to post a different perspective in the newsletter... hope you enjoy!
Chicktime: A Girl for God
Sitting in a church parking lot at 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday morning is not an ideal plan of action for a teenager; from personal experience, meani ng that I am 18, I know that they would much rather be at home, asleep in bed until, oh say, about noon. But here I was with 15 other girls waiting to head out to go participate in this thing called Chicktime. I didn't really know what is. I was just there because I am a senior, and therefore a leader of our Girls for God ministry, and my leader asked me to create and manage a station. At that point, I wanted nothing more than to just go home and go back to bed. On the drive over, Jennifer explained to us that the girls at this center had been relocated to there because their family background was not safe and they put on a 'tough girl' persona, so we needed to mind all the rules and watch what we said/did. "Great," I thought to myself, "I get to go spend four hours with juvenile delinquents. Yay me." Little did I know that these girls would show me just how lucky I am and how great God is. We pulled up, unloaded, were briefed on the happenings, and then escorted through a locked fence: not a very good sign in my mind. I proceeded to the room that I was assigned and set up my card making station. The first group of girls came by and I was a nervous wreck. I didn't know what to expect: were they going to be nice? Closed off? Would they even participate? As time passed by and we got to talking with the girls, it was evident that these girls were just that, girls. They talked about who the cute celebrities are, who their favorite artists are, and about their school work. They worked diligently on their cards, all the while chatting happily with myself and the other girls helping. What really had an impact on me was a group of four girls. They had choreographed a dance but our CD player wouldn't play their CD. Instead of just sitting down and letting forgetting about their dance, they began to sing and dance. They had choreographed this dance specifically for our entertainment. These girls had spirit and creativity. They didn't let their past, current, or future situations handicap their fun. These girls are at this place because something at home didn't go right and they got the bad end of the deal yet, here they were singing and dancing, happy as can be. That's when I realized that on the outside, I was here so they could talk and interact with someone different and new, but in reality I was here to learn from them. They were teaching me that I should be grateful, happy, and contented with my life. I have a loving family, a home, school, and endless possibilities ahead of me. What I thought was going to be a waste of my time ended up as one of the best ways I've spent my Saturdays so far this school year. The girls told us about certain activities Chicktime coordinated for them: a fashion show, a movie, and a dance. We asked the girls what they wanted and our mind raced with thoughts. Jennifer asked if we would want to come back in the future and work with Chicktime some more and we practically screamed at her "YES!" As we loaded the van to head home, we were already talking about what we could do when we came back. Unfortunately for us, Chicktime is booked for the rest of the year and we will have to wait to return. Chicktime was something I needed. Something I needed to remind me just how fortunate I was. Something I needed to open my eyes and teach me how to be generous with my time and effort. I can honestly say that I would not changed a single thing about the way I spent that my Saturday. Chicktime enjoys highlighting Chicks making a difference in their local communities. Please email stories about your Chicks to lori@mlrhodes.com and we will publish the most intriguing one each month!
Introducing New MagazineAudra Hughes, member of Chicktime New Life, is the visionary behind a new magazine set to hit local shelves December 1, 2009. There are many publications out there, but none that are Christian focused and dedicated to teens. Hence the birth of Christeenianity, a monthly publication dedicated to providing teens with useful information. Christeenianity is not a magazine about video games or prom dresses. Nor is it a dating guide. There is a myriad of magazines, websites, videos and books already covering these topics. Instead, Christeenianity articles will focus on what's REALLY happening with every day teens and their daily struggles. Our goal is to entertain you as well as connect you with other teens, to let you know you're NOT alone. We want to help teens "find" their way. In today's world, becoming a teen has become a big burden. Teens are faced with trying to fit in while trying to discover who they are as a person. Christeenianity is designed to open up new doors and help them find a positive path. Many teens are lost and confused and do not know who to turn to. The articles written in Christeenianity are written by teens, for teens. Not only can teens read articles written by other teens, they can also submit their own inspiring articles and get their stories heard. Christeenianity wants to give teens more options and help them get more involved in the Christian community where they will ALWAYS be accepted. Audra Hughes belongs to Chicktime New Life. In October, Chicktime Austin met with the Volunteer Coordinator at the Texas Baptist Children's Home in Round Rock, TX. This facility has several programs that encourage our community. After our visit we were very excited to be able to partner and support their needs for the children in their Campus Life program. This includes six cottages housing up to eight children each. The children are cared for by loving Christian house parents. These are couples who model a family environment for the children they serve. We are visiting the facility this month to create photo frames for the children to give as Christmas gifts . We look forward to continuing our connection with these children in the next year. The Chicktime Austin ladies are busy planning our Kick-off event in January. We have been looking for locations, selecting menus and going to photo shoots all over the Austin area in preparation for this amazingly exciting evening! We believe sharing Chicktime with our friends and the Austin area will be rewarding for all! We have been blessed and encouraged by so many amazing women in our personal lives and community! A special THANKS to Lori Rhodes for her positive and prayerful support. We look forward to 2010 and invite you to join us in serving our community through Chicktime Austin. Chicktime Catering for a Cause
|
P.J. Oliver, long serving Chicktime volunteer, is beginning a new adventure. Her love of good friends and good food along with a deep desire to serve the children of Comal County have come togehter in a poweful way.
P.J. has a heart for children pulled out of their homes because those homes are no longer safe due to abuse and/or neglect. Once in the care of the state, much attention is needed to ensure that these kids end up in a safe place to call home.
Catering for a Cause will offer catering with a twist... ALL proceeds will benefit children suffering from abuse and/or neglect. All proceeds for 2009 are pledged to CASA of Central Texas.
Call or email P.J. today if you are interested in volunteering with Catering for a Cause. Look for calendar dates on the Chicktime calendar for monthly 'tasting' outings and opportunities to cook and/or assist P.J. in delivery and set/up.
P.J. is developing her menu, focusing on just desserts for the holiday season with a full menu planned for 2010. Please make sure to remember Catering for a Cause for you holiday desserts!

October Chicktime at New Life was too fun to forget anytime soon! The Watts (Terri, Tammy, Taylor, Hailey, Jessica) and Roberts (Rosa, Lexi) chicks outdid themselves with an abundance of cheer and life giving activities. The New Life girls really enjoyed all the activities but were humbled and most enthusiatic as they were packaging 600 pounds of rice and beans for the local food bank. They each seemed to have a story about feeding the poor with a grandmother or an aunt or their church before removal from their homes. In addition to the volleyball clinic... some people are just so competitive... we painted pots that were filled with flowers and donated to the eldrely in retirement homes. If you weren't able to make it, yes, you missed out... but we are gearing up for a fabulous November Chicktime on Nov. 14th. Please see the invitation further down or check it out online at www.chicktime.com. RSVP to Natalie Avalos natalie@crossroadsc.com. Fundraising update: The past several months have been very busy for New Life volunteers as they come up with and implement creative ways to raise funds to cover the cost to replace the worn out flood damaged furniture in the girl's cottages. Lots of Starbucks have been forgone, parties are being hosted to raise money, and chicks have hit the pavement asking friends and family to get involved!
Here is where we are... keep going!
The Goal: Raise $43,000.00 Status: Already raised $17,000 Still Need: $26,000.00

Smalltown has been busy! We volunteered at Big Spring Ranch for Children September 19, for the first time, and it was incredible! The girls were all asking, "when are you coming back...next week?". Now we have been back for October's visit the girls, excitement for Chicktime was evidenced by the smiles on their sweet faces. We had fun serving our local Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program's first fundraiser Golf Tournament. Many volunteer's turned out with there Chicktime shirts and a helping hand to make it a great success. Last but not least, we had a Chicks night out on October 22, just for fun and enjoyed visiting with each other and sharing ideas. Members brought friends and 4 new members came aboard! Did you know since the 2005 business Census, an estimated 65% of children located in Hidalgo and Starr counties live below the poverty line? Additionally, half the residents over the ages of 24 living in Mission and La Joya have a high school diploma. So many opportunities exist to equip families and children throughout the RGV and we invite you to join our efforts to support the work of local organizations and churches through service in education, health, and food outreach and services. Chicktime RGV will have it's first information meeting November 19 at Retama Lounge. Contact Natalie if you would like to receive an invitation with the specifics! The meeting will provide an opportunity for women committed to service all over the RGV to come together as a an "army of servants" improving their community one project at a time.

What is Chicktime National
|
Chicktime, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) public charity. With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!
This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.
Our fall 2009 event was an incredible night of friendship, new and old! The common theme of the conversations was the intrigue that so many women in one room share a common vision! Chicktime National would also like to offer a Chicktime Mission Trip in 2010. Kimberly Huffstutler, Smalltown, is working out the details. We would also like to take a 'simply for fun' Chick Trip in 2010! If we have any Travel Agent Chicks in our group... we would love your input on the 2010 Chick Trip!
