Greetings!

Publication Photo Lori Rhodes colorChicks have been busy all across Texas organizing themselves to do marvelous things for their local communities!

Make sure to check the calendar online to find out where to serve this month. There should come a day, and it is quickly approaching when no woman should EVER feel loniliness... it won't be long before the Chicktime calendar is so full that on ANY given day every woman will find a place to plug in and get connected... whether it is enjoying a night with girlfriends, serving at one of the children's centers in our great state, bible study to recharge your spirits, even cooking for a cause!

Enjoy perusing the newsletter and finding out what the Chicks have been up to in September... and what is to come for the remainder of 2009. Most importantly, be inspired to explore your passions and then use them to make the world a better place!

 Joyfully,

Lori Rhodes

Chicktime Welcomes...
As many of you know, Chicktime began with a bang at New Life Children's Center several years ago. It has been the vision of Chicktime founders to offer a replicable program so other women desiring similar programs in their local communites didn't have to reinvent the wheel.

In addition to Chicktime Smalltown founded by three incredibly passionate women from Uvalde, TX this summer...

Chicktime welcomes two more newly formed groups!

Chicktime Austin
 and
 Chicktime Waco

 (see articles in this newsletter)

Perspectives
This month, Karen Bernstein, VP of Development for Lutheran Services of the South (which runs New Life Children's Center) shared her perspective on the beauty volunteers bring to New Life. Each month, we plan to post a different perspective in the newsletter... hope you enjoy!

In His Word God charges us Christian women to conscientiously teach our younger women by our word and example.  In no population of young women is this more vitally important than in children whose lives have begun knowing mainly abuse, neglect  or abandonment, as with most of the 1600 girls who have received help, healing and hope at  New Life Children's Treatment Center over the past 16 years.

Amazingly, in 2007 God gently spKaren Bernstein and the Austin Chicksarked the hearts of Lori Rhodes and her daughter to fire up their friends with the idea of a Chicktime volunteer organization at New Life.  Like a holy wildfire these volunteers turned their imagination, inspiration, time and resources over to God and became His angels on earth, inspiring the hearts and minds of girls so bereft of unconditional love.

One can behold with awe how the girls at New Life observe and absorb the loving examples of these volunteer mothers, grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters and friends.  Some of these women, young and old, faithfully participate every month of the year, others faithfully do so whenever they are able to. And, they continue to engage and encourage new volunteers.  Monthly, they orchestrate fun activities that not only help release the deep "heart-hurt" that plagues these girls, but that also teach and enhance an amazing multitude of skills, i.e. etiquette, making quilts to give to other needy children, baking cupcakes for a golf benefit, mural painting to enliven outbuildings on campus, etc.  Others engage and support the athletic and artistic skills of the girls.   But, so beautifully interwoven into each of the monthly Saturday morning Chick Time programs is HELPING THE GIRLS LEARN TO RESPECT AND CARE FOR THEMSELVES AND OTHERS.

As many as 150 new girls may be admitted at New Life in a year.     These outstanding programs must be repeated for these new children. How many teenagers today ever experience consistent,  unconditional love like this?     I sometimes think that, as unfortunate as are the reasons for the girls to be placed at New Life, God has a great reason for blessing them with the opportunity to know  the wonderful ladies of New Life Chicktime.

From the Austin Chicks
Chicktime Austin New Life SeptTwo girlfriends from Austin decided to enjoy their birthdays together! They invited their girlfriends to a Pay It Forward Birthday Party.  They settled on donating their time on a rainy Saturday morning at New Life Treatment Center with the Chicktime ladies.

That day we were all touched on many levels and in many ways!  Our drive home was filled with conversation, tears, and laughter.  But most of all, we came home with a need to create a Chicktime in our community.

As we meet each week laying down the foundation of Chicktime Austin, we find ourselves so very blessed to be able to create and implement this fabulous idea in our area.

If you would like to join Chick Time Austin, please contact chicktimeaustin@gmail.com

Chicktime Meadowlands
MeadowlandsKathy Miner and many other Boerne women are interested in serving the children of Meadowlands Long Term Care Facility. These precious chidren have been placed at Meadowlands because their homes are no longer safe and there is no one left to care for them. Kathy is a self described 'Indian' in need of a chief! If you have a heart to lead women in service, please contact Kathy Miner today. She is a seasoned Chicktime volunteer and great to work (and play) with!

Chicktime New Life
Chicktime New Life was led in September by Jennifer Rasco
and the Girls for God group of  Park Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio.

These inspirational teens and leaders brought joy and encouragement to the New Life girls in the form of basketball, line dancing, and card making.

The cards were especially touching as the New Life girls wChicktime Girls for Godere able to give them to the sick in local hospitals thanks to the help of the Girls for God. All volunteers know the secret of joy... giving to others... and that is exactly what these dynamic Chick Leaders allowed the New Life girls to do in September!

Chicktime Smalltown
Chicktime Smalltown FoundersWith great excitement we announce that Chicktime Smalltown is now a reality!

The overwhelming response  to our "kickoff" party confirmed what Dixie, Gaye and I have been dreaming about - that the women of our communities are ready to join together and pool their resources and talents to make a difference in the world.

Chicktime Smalltown is all about women Getting Together, Getting Involved and Doing Good.  How we do this?  By awarding 100% of membership contributions to non-profit organizations voted for by members.  Beyond that, if you have a heart for service, get further involved with volunteer opportunites.

We anxiously look forward to the impact that 62 plus members, and growing, can collectively make. Already we have identified numerous potential projects along with many service opportunities for all to participate in.

The challenge ahead of us is to remain engaged and focused on building a foundation of service. Tell your friends about Chicktime and let them know how they can be involved.

Chicktime Waco is filled with amazing women that live in the Waco community. My mom and I started Chicktime when I was in high school.  I was inspired to start a Chicktime group in Waco because being off at Baylor and not having access to a network of wonderful women that come together to rejoice in the LORD while helping others 24/7 saddens me.  There is nothing that makes me feel better than giving back, if you feel the same and want to be apart of a group that WILL change the future COME JOIN US! It doesn't matter if

What is Chicktime National

With the new Chicktime groups forming, it is important for all members to realize there is a 'parent' organization that each Chick belongs to as well as her local Chicktime Group! We have decided to refer to Chicktime, Inc, the umbrella for our non-profit status as Chicktime National. Chicktime Inc. is our official name... but that is oh so boring!

This is important because in addition to the individual Chicktime group events, Chicktime National will also hold quarterly events as a way to introduce the idea of Chicktime to new friends and to provide opportunities for ALL the Chicks to come together.

We are already working on our Fall 2010 event, our FIRST Annual Chicktime Convention! Chicktime National would also like to offer a Chicktime Mission Trip in 2010 and a 'simply for fun' Chick Trip as well! If you are a Chick with a heart for mission trips, please contact Lori Rhodes. If we have any Travel Agent Chicks in our group... we would love your input on the 2010 Chick Trip as well!

The following invitation is for the Chicktime National Fall 2009 Event. ALL chicks are encouraged to come, the Founders for each Chicktime group will be there to answer questions and inspire! We will also have a marketplace with our latest Chicktime merchandise (available at wholesale prices those wanting to fundraise!), great food and refreshing beverages... but most of all... an opportunity to come together with like minded women and explore where you are going with the future you have been given!

Asking the quesion of Why Chicktime? Call or email Lori and lets girl talk!!!

(Picture at right) This is a happy photo of one of the resident girls at New Life Children's Treatment Center after she spent the morning hand painting a birdhouse hand crafted by Chicktime volunteers. Each photo we take of the girls in the center has to cover her face... the protection of the girls identity is crucial to keep them safe. Many of the girl's parent's are in prison for what they have done to these precious children and it is important that we don't give clues to individual girl's whereabouts!

Chicks with Passion

I love gLunchirlfriends... and my favorite topic when together is talking about what they are passionate about! Just this week, one girlfriend shared her passion for cooking... and we started to dream about the idea of 'Cooking for a Cause'! She is an incredible cook... and sees the proceeds of her catering going to help children in protective custody because their homes are unsafe due to parental abuse/neglect. Can you see yourself volunteering to: Lunch with my cooking friend at new restaurants to explore new recipes? Laughing in her kitchen as we prep food for the next big event? Spending an evening serving along good friends as you raise big bucks for these precious children? If so, let me know, I would love to hear from you!

Another girlfriend is passionate about providing water wells to third world countries... where young girls must walk hours each day simply to find clean drinking water for their families... and often raped along the way as they trek through the countryside to reach the remote destinations. Her heart bleeds for these girls...she has a few ideas about how to raise the money... but needs wisdom in getting there... her ideas will involve finding a partner in the textile business willing to use her incredible designs (shhh... I can't tell you what they are, top secret!) But if you know someone who may have a heart to help my friend... please Water of Lovecontact me!

What is Chicktime

Chicktime is a grass roots movement meant to support and encourage women living on the wild side, pursuing their passions with gusto. It is our belief that if each woman on the planet right now takes her place we can together accomplish the phenomenal.
