Facial Recognition under Bright Light Condition?
Bright light condition is always a headache to facial recognition system developers because it affects the operation and accuracy of the system.
For color-based facial recognition system, it relies on ambient light (surrounding environment) to illuminate the user. Under bright condition, the system may easily capture overexposed images and fail to recognize the user. Infrared (IR) based facial recognition system is better for its built-in illumination, however, strong sunlight could still cause over exposure and fail the recognition.
Yes! We Did It!
Using advanced techniques in optics, image and recognition optimization, PSP Security has enhanced its infrared-based facial recognition technology to overcome the bright light condition challenge. As a result, our AccuFACEŽ facial recognition system can work effectively under strong light condition.
Real Life Application: Hong Kong Dockyard
Different facial recognition systems have been installed at this Hong Kong dockyard for access control and time & attendance applications. However, none of them works because of extreme light conditions (sunlight is coming from all directions throughout the day) and harsh working environments (high humidity, rain). AccuFACE was able to work effectively at the dockyard. As a result, the end-user has removed other facial recognition systems and decided to use AccuFACE. |

Case Study: Using Biometric Systems in Semi-outdoor Construction Sites
Using biometric system at construction sites is a big challenge. In general, the system has to work in a "semi-outdoor" environment, and overcome below factors:
Environmental Factors
Human Factors
-
Dirty hands
-
Workers wearing helmets and gloves
-
Workers carrying gear in both hands
-
Roughness in device operation
Fingerprint and hand geometry systems cannot handle these factors well because they are contact system that requires users to touch and scan fingerprint/palm. Regular facial recognition system cannot overcome the environmental factors and fails to operate in bright or dim light condition.
On the other hand, AccuFACE is gaining popularity at construction sites because it is a contactless system that can handle changing environmental and human factors well. |
