Someone wisely said, "We are powerless because we are prayerless." Sometimes, we may wonder why we lack the power to help move people to trust Christ, to attend church, or to serve Him. Could it be that we have not prayed about it?
Jesus told His disciples that the fields were ready for harvest, but the workers were few. He told them to pray that God would send workers into the fields to gather the harvest. This Easter, we, God's workers, again see our community as our field, ready for the harvest: friends and neighbors who need to trust Christ, to begin to attend church, or to start serving Him. God has given us the power to make that happen; it is called the power of prayer.
This past Sunday, I asked everyone to commit to pray for three people who are not attending church and to prepare to invite them to our Easter services. In response, ninety-one of us committed to pray for 273 unchurched family and friends. If you are one of the 91 committed to pray for three unchurched people, we have thirty-one days until Easter, thirty-one daily opportunities to pray for those who live next door to us, across the street, or on the next block.
In addition, I encourage you to devote some time to pray with your family, specifically for people living in our community that are alone, in trouble, and without God in their life.
Let us pray with confidence, not just believing that God can, but that He will hear and answer. Hebrews 4:16 instructs us to go with confidence to God that we might find help in time of need. While we may be at peace with God, we can pray on behalf of our neighbors in their time of need.
