Dear Friends and Humane Society Supporters,
The cold weather is here, and we're expecting our first real snow fall before you know it! The winter months are always hard for rescue organizations. Many people are absorbed in holiday shopping and are often too busy to give to their regular charities the time or money they normally give. Please don't forget about homeless animals this holiday! Help Save Pets want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season!

| What a great time! Maurices in Plainfield held a month long donation drive for Help Save Pets! In store, they gathered towels and blankets, dog treats and toys and food on our behalf. They also took donations at the cash registers and offered customers who donated a discount on purchases for being so generous.
On September 18th, they also held a Fashion Show at their location, inside 12748 S Rt Plainfield. Help Save Pets brought along animals to show, and Maurcies had a silent auction, raffles and a bake sale to raise funds.
Thank you so much to store manager Amber Taylor and all the store employees who worked to hard to put this month long event together on behalf of Help Save Pets!

Kirby's Happy Tail
|
Kirby is doing well. He has been such a pleasure to have in the house.
The day we adopted Kirby, we came home and did the introductions to the other dogs. All went very well. They all seemed to immediately accept each other nicely. A few hours after we came home, my son came home from school. Oh my gosh, it was like he had not seen him for years. He has grown so attached to Sid. He follows him everywhere always wagging his tail. We were wondering if any of his previous homes had children.
So far, Kirby likes to sleep in the big dog bed next to the others. It is pretty cute watching them sleep. Sometimes they like to sleep on top of each other and they seem perfectly content. It is like watching a litter of puppies.
He is such a good dog. He loves playing catch.
Did I mention he gets spoiled? Well I can't help myself. He gets pets, hugs and kisses on a daily basis and he loves it. His favorite time is when I brush his hair. Believe it or not, he actually will find his brush, bring it to me and sit on the couch next to me. If I ignore him, he will grab the brush and place it on my lap or on top of my laptop. My mom could not believe he did this until she was over one day and saw him do this.

Become a Temporary Care Provider Meet Frieda
|
Help Save Pets would like to share with you a personal story about being a temporary care provider with our rescue organization. Frieda is a 6 year old Shepherd mix.Frieda has some special needs, one being her hair loss. We don't know what caused the hair loss, possibly allergies. Some has grown back, but she is still missing a significant amount of fur on her chest and legs. She is also deaf, although she may have some hearing for certain frequencies. When Frieda came to us, she was very scared and didn't make very much eye contact. She didn't want to play or interact with people very much. Since being given her temporary home, Frieda is coming out of her shell. She looks at people and interacts with them and has even started enjoying chew toys. She is housebroken and will bark when she needs to go outside. She is crate trained, goes right in, no barking and lies right down on her blanket. She enjoys her toys and does well with other dogs. She is a very sweet, gentle girl who is coming out of her shell and seeking more companionship. We hope the right person comes along who can see past her exterior to her "inner beauty" and all that she has to offer! Frieda is available for adoption, you can view her Petfinder Profile to see her video. You can download the application form to become a Temporary Care Provider HERE, and help dogs like Freida learn how to be comfortable in a home again. Please contact tempcare@helpsavepets.orgto help! In addition, we frequently need homes for moms with puppies or kittens. This is hard work, but VERY rewarding.
· We provide puppy pens, bedding, all medical care and food if you'd like to use our stock. · Advise on how to house, feed and manage the mom and babies is available from experienced volunteers. · The commitment is until the pups or kittens reach 8 weeks of age. · Relief for weekends or vacations is available.
You can read about the details of foster parenting by clicking on the link below.
Being a Temporary Care Provider
In addition, we frequently need homes for moms with puppies or kittens throughout the spring and summer.
If you can't help right now, please feel free to forward this to others who might be able to help.
Becoming a temporary care provider can be a rewarding experience. Help Save Pets would like to share

Security | Provide your cat with safety and security. Always use a cat carrier when transporting your pet.
Protect him by making certain that all windows are securely screened, and that the washer and dryer are kept closed and are inspected before each use.
Get into the habit of ensuring that drawers, closets, and cupboards are uninhabited before you close them. And for your own security, put a collar and tag on your feline - there's always the chance he may slip outside by mistake, and you want to make sure he can be identified as your pet.

Good Dog!
|
Dog Exercise | Dogs need an active life. That means you should plan plenty of exercise and game time for your pet.
Exercise for your dog not only improves muscle tone, avoids obesity, heart ailments and bone disorders, but it results in a better adjusted and well behaved pet.
Most dogs will not exercise by just being left outside by themselves. The dog will lay around waiting for their pack to come out and play with them. Enjoy jogging or Frisbee? You can bet your dog will, too. If running around the park is too energetic for your taste, try throwing a ball or a stick, or just going for a long walk together.
When you take a drive in the country or visit family and friends, bring your dog and a leash along. If your dog gets carsick, don't let him look out the window as you travel, have him lay on the floor of the car. It's watching the world go by that induces the sickness usually, not the motion of the car.
