Pet Food Pantry Program
|

In these difficult times, pets are also feeling the financial
crunch. In our
continuing efforts to help pets find a forever home, Help Save Pets is
collecting pet food donations for those in need. By helping provide food
to those families struggling to find the money to feed their animals,
it helps ensure these animals stay with the loving families they have
always known. Helping them keeps them from becoming strays or being
given up to shelters to try to find a home again. Can
you help by donating a bag or cans of dog, cat, puppy or kitten food to
help feed our four legged friends? If you prefer to let someone else do the shopping, you
can help immediately by donating cash to the cause. We are collecting
all food and monetary items at our host clinic, Animal Care Center of
Plainfield, 14411 S. Route 59 in Plainfield; please stop by either with
your food items or simply take an envelope off the poster in the lobby
and bring it a staff member with your donation. As little as $5 can help
feed an animal for weeks. We are also in desperate need of KMR Kitten
Milk Replacer for the many orphan kittens now in need that HSP will be
taking in, as well as to assist the Good Samaritans in the public
sector. If you can help in any way, it will be greatly appreciated --
Help Save Pets has already received several desperate pleas for help
from people who are out of work, cannot afford to feed their pets, and
are grateful for any food we can provide them so they do not also suffer
the loss of their beloved four-legged friend in these hard times. You
can also donate on-line, at helpsavepets.org, and simply earmark your donation
for our Pet Food Pantry. Thank you for your generous support! |

Happy Tails - Wally
| |

'I brought Gunther home in March 2010, after hearing about Help
Save Pets on "Maggie and Dan in the Morning." Now I call
him by his new middle name, "Wally." Wally was a little shy at first but
now all of his toys are well-loved, and he spends many happy hours
napping in the sun on his new bed. He's been a blessing. Thank you Help
Save Pets and Star 96.7! We are a very happy little family.

Items Needed: Carriers, Printer Cartridges, Food
|
Help Save Pets would like to thank everyone that donated used
printer cartridges. We partner with Staples to turn used cartridges into
credits for copying material, thank you envelopes, plastic display
holders and much more. Please continue to donate used cartridges. Bring
them into any clinic in a plastic bag and let them know they are for
Help Save Pets. Help Save Pets is in constant need of Puppy food
(dry and some canned), Kitten food (dry & canned), and dog food.
Currently we have many puppies we must feed and can go through a 40
pound bag of puppy food in 2 days or less! If you can help with
donations of food, we will be able to apply our resources to saving
another life and finding a forever home. Help Save Pets is in need of dog and cat carriers.
We always have a need for wire crates that can be used to transport
animals to events, to pick up incoming animals from kill shelters and
for fosters to transport their foster animal. We need all sizes -
hopefully in fair to good condition. We will clean & bleach all
carriers before we use them.
You can drop off any donation inside any of the veterinary clinic locations listed at the bottom of this newsletter. You may also send us an email if you would like further information or to try to make different arrangements for your donation. Email Dean and Nancy if you have a donation you would like to discuss!

Become a Temporary Care Provider
| |

Spring and early summer is the time of year where the
need for foster families
increases drastically because of the many puppies and kittens born. We
try to rescue as many as possible, but moms with babies cannot stay in a
shelter, we must find homes for them to raise their babies. So in order
to rescue them we need foster families to keep mom and babies until
they are old enough to come to the shelter and get adopted into homes of
their own. Help Save Pets has received desperate calls for help
for the following pregnant and
nursing mom dogs who are in grave danger of being put to sleep. If
you are willing to help foster one, please use the contact information below. You can download the application
form HERE. Please contact tempcare@helpsavepets.orgto help! In addition, we frequently need homes for moms
with puppies or
kittens. This is hard work, but VERY rewarding.
· We provide
puppy pens, bedding, all medical care and food if you'd like to use our
stock. · Advise on how to house, feed and manage the mom and babies
is available from experienced volunteers. · The commitment is until
the pups or kittens reach 8 weeks of age. · Relief for weekends or
vacations is available.
You can read about the details of
foster parenting by clicking on the
link below.
Being a Temporary Care Provider
In
addition, we frequently need homes for moms with puppies or kittens
throughout the spring and summer.
If you
can't help right now, please feel free to forward this to others who
might be able to help. |

Cat Play and Toys
| Provide your cat with an interesting indoor environment. Cats love to
play and will appreciate simple and inexpensive toys. Ping-Pong balls
and paper bags can provide hours of fun. A comfortable perch by a window
can become your cat's very own entertainment and relaxation center.
Toys are very important for cats. They not only fight boredom, they also
give cats a chance to express their prey-chasing drives. If you're the
one moving the toy while your cat chases after it, playtime can be a
bonding experience for both of you.

Good Dog!
|
House Rules
| Work out your dog-care regimen in advance among the human members of
your household to avoid confusion once the dog arrives. Who will walk
the dog first thing in the morning? Who will feed him at night? Will
Fido be allowed on the couch, or won't he? Where will he rest at night?
Are there any rooms in the house that are off-limits? Kids can and
should help, but remember, adults are the pack leaders and the ones
ultimately responsible for taking care of the dog.
