Healing for the Planet and Her People.
Happy Holidays from Linda Hogan December 2009
Angel of which we're unaware?. . . be mindful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained Angels unaware."

Have you had this kind of encounter?
I have several times, usually during our holiday seasons.  I believe it is to remind me that we are all one.  We are each an essence of the divine.  It is also to remind me of how blessed in am.  I want to share my most recent encounter with you.

Talking about the client I'd just seen and how we were finding more and more people unable to pay, we heard the door bell ring and turned to see who it was.

A young man, slightly hunched over and dressed in a black coat a little too big for him and a knit cap covering his mass of long, black, curly hair struggled with the door of Positive New Beginnings and came in. He looked around sheepishly and when I asked if we could help him he told us he had no money and just needed a snack to get him to his next destination. Did we possibly have anything he could eat. The energy that came in before him and surrounded Dottie and I did not match his appearance which presented him as someone possibly on drugs or with a mental problem. Instead of feeling apprehensive we were mesmerised. Dottie said she thought she could find him something and went to the kitchen.
My heart was already cracked open by the light I felt coming off of him, when he told me he believed in God and knew that he would be taken care of. He pulled out two cards, one for Dottie and one for me, and handed them over. They were prayers to Archangel Michael.

Just then in the other room the Angel bell went off.

When Dottie first opened Positive New Beginnings, at it's original location, her husband put a doorbell on the wall. It was intended to be used to let a practitioner know that the time with their client was up. There was no battery, and it was not connected to electricity, so naturally, it didn't work if you pushed the button. One day the bell rang by itself. We joked that it must be an angel. The bell started ringing when someone said something profound, or that needed to be affirmed. We then knew that Positive New Beginnings had it's own guardian angel. When Dottie expanded and moved to her current location she packed up the bell and brought it with her. It was put up on the wall once again, still with no battery. As before, what we had come to call the Angel Bell, sounded when something significant or important was said.

The bell rang again as this stranger pointed to a stature of the Virgin Mary that was for sale on one of the display shelves. "Ah, Mary, the Mother of God", he said. " She protects me too. It may look like my life is hard, and it is" he said, "but I'll be alright, don't worry about me, God always provides. Someday I"ll come back and buy some of your beautiful things."

Dottie came back from the kitchen with a big bag of food. "Snacks for now, and food for later." she told him, as she handed him the bag. He took it graciously.

"For now, all I can do is bless you and pray for you. When I get enough money I will light a candle for you and say prayers. You are blessed" he said. As he struggled out the door he looked back at us and said "I will be back, you miss me." Yes, I miss you." I whispered as he shut the door.

Dottie and I sat down, tears brightening our eyes. We knew we had been visited by an Angel. The unmistakable pure, unadulterated , unconditional love of God bathing us and filling our hearts.

"This is why we do what we do isn't it?", I said. "Yes, this is why I struggle to keep this center open." Dottie answered. It is because we know it is what we are meant to do and because we know we will always be taken care of and watched over by angels.

So, open your hearts during this season and all times.  Look and judge with your heart, not your eyes or mind.  Look through the eyes of LOVE and see who you can help.  You too may find you've entertained an angel unaware.

In Wendy's own words.

"On February 19, 2009 my husband Mike, went to work as usual when he was told the company was closing their doors and everyone was laid off.  We panicked.  Suddenly we were faced with the reality of how we were going to pay our bills and put food on the table for our kids.  We ended up using our savings to get by.  But that would only last for so long.
Fortunately Mike was only unemployed for about 6 weeks before finding another job.   We like so many others went about our daily routines never thinking that we could be one of those families affected by today's trying times.  We took for granted how lucky we were to have food and shelter and so many Rhode Islanders alone were not as fortunate.
One Sunday night shortly after Mike was laid off we were sitting on the sofa and we just started talking about how lucky we were to still be able to put food on the table and a roof over our heads even though we hit a financial rough patch.  We decided at that moment that it was time for us to help those in need, even if all we could do was something small.  We tossed around some ideas and tried to come up with something that our son, Austin who is 10 years old, could participate in.  We wanted to take this opportunity to teach him to appreciate all that he has and to give back whenever he can.
We came up with the "brown bag lunch" program.  We wanted to make brown bag lunches for those in need.  We would supply in each lunch bag a ham & cheese or bologna & cheese or peanut butter & jelly sandwich, a juice box, a napkin and a snack.  On Sunday, March 22nd we made and delivered 100 brown bag lunches to the Day Program of Crossroads of RI in Providence.  We met some amazing people that were incredibly thankful.  We decided that we wanted to do more.  We wanted to continue this program at least one Sunday per month.  Unfortunately we could not financially do this on our own every month.
At the end of March I started to promote this program on free websites such as wishuponahero.com and craigslist.  I explained what we were looking to do and asked for volunteers to help assemble lunches as well as donations in the form of monetary, pantry items or new & used clothing.  We could not believe the response.  On April 19th we had 15 volunteers, had raised enough money to make 300 lunches and donate pantry items as well.  We delivered these lunches and pantry items once again to the Day Program of Crossroads of RI.
We decided to change things up a bit for May.  On May 17th we had 12 volunteers, were able to raise 6 bags full of new and used clothing, a couple of children's games, toiletries, pantry items and made 60 brown bag lunches for the Crossroads of RI Family Center in Providence.  We also made 30 toiletry bags for the Ronald McDonald House in Providence.
We are going to continue on with this program.  Our hope is that someday we will be able to do more than just one Sunday per month.  We have met some truly amazing people.  We cannot thank everyone enough who has taken the time out to be a part of this and who has donated their time and effort in making this a success.
