W-2 Health Care Reporting
| The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010 includes many changes for employers, including a new requirement to report the aggregate cost of employer-sponsored group health plan coverage on the employee's W-2. The amounts reported are not taxable and are meant for information purposes only.
Reporting the aggregate cost of employer-sponsored group health plan coverage is optional on the 2011 W-2 form (use Box 12, code DD). It will be mandatory to report this figure in 2012.
For calculation information and details on the coverage costs affected, read more.

27,000 Using Online Giving
306 churches. 27,000 members. $25 million*.

On October 27, 2010, we hit a milestone when our 300th church purchased the Online Giving system.
Since we first offered the product in June 2009, 27,000 families have happily put their checkbooks away and used Online Giving to make donations and payments to their churches. Why have they so readily embraced this technology? Like the rest of us, families are looking to simplify and be more efficient. They're busy. They have kids to get ready for church. And they're already paying for most everything else electronically. In addition to making it easier to fulfill their stewardship requirements, Online Giving just makes sense for them.
It makes sense for their churches, too. Based on an October 2010 snapshot of "seasoned churches" (i.e., those that have been providing the Online Giving option to their families for three months or more), our 306 parishes altogether can count on receiving an estimated $25 million* in direct-deposited annual giving. Online gifts represent income they can count on -- income that is never subject to vacation schedules, inclement weather, or forgotten checkbooks or ATM stops.
ParishSOFT makes it easy to get your Online Giving program up and running. Learn more on www.parishsoft.com, or register for our educational Online Giving webinar on: *Family and annual giving statistics calculated based on churches that have been accepting Online Giving donations and payments from families for three months or more.

Tips for Users' Conference Attendees
As of press time, 178 ParishSOFT users are registered for the November 8-10 conference in St. Petersburg, FL. Here are a few tips to make the conference more enjoyable for our attendees.
CHECK-IN FIRST. Please check in with one of our friendly faces at the ParishSOFT registration table, in Lobby II at the Hilton Bayfront. They'll have your schedule, conference materials, and the lanyard ID you'll need to access meals and conference events. Check-in starts Sunday 7:30-9:00 p.m. and continues Monday beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Class Registration. If you have not yet registered for your classes at the Users' Conference, please visit http://www.parishsoft.com/uc/classselection.htm to make your selections and bring a printed copy of your registration to the conference. If you have already registered for classes, we will have a printed copy of your itinerary at the registration table in Lobby II.
What to wear? Most of us will be sporting business casual attire. Dress for comfort.
Does chilly air-conditioning make you shiver? Dress in layers. Hotel conference rooms are notoriously difficult to keep at a temperature that is comfortable for everyone. If you're the chilly sort, we recommend long pants and a light sweater or jacket so you can adjust your layers and maintain a comfortable personal climate. Weather.com forecasts sunny skies in St. Petersburg with temperatures in the 70-80°F range. (Incidentally, it was a frosty 35° Ann Arbor, Mich. at press time.)
Arriving early? If you're arriving on Sunday Nov. 7, please join us from 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. in Lobby II of the main conference hall for registration, a welcome reception, and refreshments. Please register first to get your lanyard.
Looking for things to do around St. Petersburg? The Hilton will have a table set up in Lobby II with information from the Chamber of Commerce, so please stop by to get the scoop on local attractions, restaurants, and more.

Hire 2010 Tax Benefits
Under the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, enacted March 18, 2010, two new tax benefits are available to employers who hire certain previously unemployed workers ("qualified employees").
Qualified employees are individuals who begin employment with a qualified employer after February 3, 2010, and before January 1, 2011; who have been unemployed or employed for 40 hours or less during the 60-day period ending on the date such employment begins; who are not employed by the qualified employer to replace another employee of that employer, unless the other employee separated from employment voluntarily or was terminated for cause; and who are not family members of or related in certain other ways to the employer.
- The first benefit, referred to as the payroll tax exemption, provides employers with an exemption from the employer's 6.2 percent share of social security tax on wages paid to qualifying employees, effective for wages paid from March 19, 2010 through December 31, 2010.
- In addition, for each qualified employee retained for at least 52 consecutive weeks, businesses will also be eligible for a general business tax credit, referred to as the new hire retention credit, of 6.2 percent of wages paid to the qualified employee over the 52-week period, up to a maximum credit of $1,000.
If you have an employee who meets the HIRE qualifications, check the HIRE Qualified box on the employee's Emp/Cust tab in your ConnectNow Payroll system. The HIRE amount of the employer's portion of Social Security tax is reported properly on your 941 form and is available for a refund or application to next year's return.
