As the fall season begins, we at the chamber are very excited about the activities that we are planning for this season. This time of year is traditionally our busiest time due to the number of events that we are involved in and host. Events like the Awards Banquet last month or the Reverse Raffle that will be coming up in November keep us very busy. However, there are more activities that we do and that we are involved in that offer our members value.
One of our responsibilities as a chamber is to act as one voice for small business and advocate for your interests. We are currently planning a Mayoral Candidate Debate on October 26th from 7:00pm-9:00pm where you will have an opportunity to ask questions to all three candidates. We plan to send out a survey to request questions before hand so that you will have the answers you need before you vote in November. In line with advocating for our membership, we also play a role in educating the membership as a whole on issues that affect you and your business. Most recently, you have probably heard quite a bit about Senate Bill 5 and Issue 2. Below are two links that I would recommend that you view before you see the ballot in November:
http://www.aproundtable.org/pdfs/faqonOH_SB5.pdf
http://ohiobusinessvotes.org/
The first link takes you to the American Policy Roundtable website, which is an organization designed to report the facts on legislative issues. The second link takes you to the State specific website that will inform you on Issue 1, Issue 2 and Issue 3, as they pertain to you and your family. Both sides report facts and present a non-bias opinion on the issues. We at the chamber, when it is pro-business and in the best interests of our membership, will make an official stance on issues. At this time, we have not completed our analysis on all the issues; therefore, we are unable to state an official position on any of the above issues.
As a registered voter and a community member, please take the time to educate yourself on the issues that will be presented to you in November. We will continue to provide information on the issues pending official announcement of our position.
As always, I take great pleasure in assisting the membership with any and all of your needs. We are working to better your community. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
