Dear Chamber Members,

It would be wrong of me to not thank all of the members for your support for our Annual Golf Outing held at Kettenring Country Club on July 12th. We had tremendous support for this event. This event has always had great success but something was different this year. I received quite a few comments about the outing on how smoothly it ran considering I started only a few months ago. I must tell you that this is largely due to the amount of help and support from the Chamber Board of Directors and my wonderful Marketing and Events Coordinator, Sarah Bowling.

So what are we doing now that the golf outing is over? Vacation, right! Quite wrong. We have moved into our next planned event which is our Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet on September 9th, 2010. Also, we are still coordinating and selling ducks for our Co-fundraiser with Junior Achievement. The duck race is scheduled for September 25th, 2010 at 2:00pm on the Clinton Street Bridge, right before this year's Rib Fest. We also have the return of our Business After Hours on August 19th at Stykemain's Buick-GMC and Breakfast of Champs on August 25th hosted by Defiance College and our guest speaker will be Mike Struble (Defiance City Schools Superintendent).

You have probably noticed in your emails that we have been sending out surveys to get a better handle on how we are doing as a member based organization. These surveys are important to the Chamber because it tells us what our membership is thinking. I personally read each and every response. These responses will remain confidential but are used to identify areas that we need to improve upon. I'm not so much interested in those comments that say we are doing a great job. Though I appreciate the kind words, I would much rather like to hear about those comments that say they are dissatisfied with their Chamber membership and why they feel that way. These are the things that make an organization better. And in a sense, take our organization from good to great!

If you ever have any questions or would like to stop by the office, my door is always open. I personal extent an invite to each and every member. I truly would like to work for you.

Buy your ducks today!
Duck Race Graphic

As a board sitting board member of Junior Achievement, I am very excited about the partnership with the Defiance Chamber of Commerce and the Maumee River Duck Splash.  This has been a great event for the past few years that many have come to look forward to.  I think that the partnership of Junior Achievement and the Defiance Chamber gives this event an opportunity to be even better.  I think that the connection to the Rib Fest on September 25, 2010 will also be a good one.

The success of the event will fall on everyone associated with Junior Achievement and the Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce.  On behalf of Junior Achievement, I can assure we are counting on the success of this event.  We understand the potential it has.  This will help our organization in so many ways.  The additional funds will allow us to branch out and impact even more youth in the Defiance area.  That is exciting to me!

I do hope that we will all pitch in to make this event a success.  The possibilities are huge but we will only get out of it what we put into it.  How do we get the most out of it?  First of all, we all need to promote the event to everyone we know.  Second, if there is an opportunity to lend a hand, take advantage of that.  And the most important thing is to get out there and purchase some ducks!
