Northwest District Association Newsletter
July 2012 Edition
Now is great time to enjoy all the neighborhood has to offer during the warm weather months... take a hike in Forest Park, enjoy a free concert, relax at local restaurants, or see our neighborhood from a new perspective by riding in the 2012 Providence Bridge Pedal.
Now is also a great time to get involved... join one of our committees, volunteer at our street tree inventory work days, or help out at our monthly neighborhood cleanups. Visit our website to learn more.
Happy Summer!
Ron Walters NWDA President
Transportation Committee
The NWDA Transportation Committee is focused on two topics at this time. One of the four NWDA 2012 Transportation Priorities would address the need for a safer pedestrian crossing at NW 23rd Place and Thurman Street. Improvements that would be promoted with the City could include curb extensions, crosswalk markings and signage. This will be discussed at the July 11th meeting at the Northwest Library. Local Thurman Street businesses have been invited to that meeting.
The second is the proposed transportation mitigation package for the NW 23rd / Vaughn intersection that has been revised into a plan that is potentially superior to the initial proposal that was not acceptable to ODOT. This design includes a double right turn onto the freeway from northbound 23rd Avenue and promotion of NW Wilson and a new NW 20th Avenue connection for trips coming off of the freeway and accessing the Con-way properties. This will also be a topic of discussion at the July 11th meeting.
The NWDA Transportation Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6 pm at Good Samaritan Hospital. The next meeting will be on August 1st. Check the NWDA website for the meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Let us know your Northwest District transportation concerns and your ideas for improving how we get around in our community!
