Very Important Information for all Volunteers

Safe Harbor has had an issue with bed bugs and although we are treating the issue, there have been sightings of the bugs currently and over the last several months .

We face this challenge due to the nature of our business.  Our population comes from all different living situations which may encourage the pests to arrive with our new residents.

We want you all to be aware of the issue we are dealing with and ask that you take precaution when handling any bedding or clothing of our residents.

What's Cookin'
  • As a reminder all kitchen volunteers are asked to send volunteer shift cancellations or changes by either calling Kitchen Services Director, Tariya Edwards at 610-696-9016 or emailing Tariya directly.  Keeping Tariya informed of changes allows her to keep the kitchen running smoothly and efficiently!
  • As the summer months approach, we always need volunteers who can fill in during lunchtime to serve the meal and clean up the kitchen/dining area.
  • Volunteers are needed daily to assist with kitchen cleanup after dinner: women's dorm at 5:15 pm and men's dorm at 7:15 pm.  Your responsibilities include wiping all surfaces, sweeping the kitchen floor and making sure all dishes are washed and placed back on the dish rack. Can you help us once a week?  If so, please call Tariya at 610-696-9016 to get on the schedule.
  • If you are serving dinner or lunch and have not yet filled in a kitchen volunteer application, please do so on your next volunteer day.  We must have this information on file for you to volunteer at Safe Harbor.  If any of your contact information has changed, be sure to let us know so we may update our files.
  • If you haven't seen the dinner or dishwasher procedure sheet, please contact the shelter office at 610-692-6550 or e-mail the office and we'll be happy to forward a copy to you!

Shout out goes to...

Sue Shanko ordered 20 tubes of sunscreen and 20 bottle of  aloe for our residents who have been requesting the items to protect them from the sun when they are outside most of the day!

Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church donated four large sandwich trays that weren't used during a Pastor's going away party. On the same afternoon, Reginald Motley dropped two trays of sandwich roll-ups along with the pasta and potato salad sides leftover from a graduation party!

As a reminder, Safe Harbor is happy to take any types of these foods left over from your celebrations.  Be sure to keep them refrigerated, and avoid having the food trays sit out for a long period of time.

Volunteers Needed

2.  Seamstress needed to make two sets (one in black and one in white) of dish covers for plates, trays and silverware tray. Please    E-mail Tariya for specifics.

3.  The Chester County Food Bank's Gleaning Program is preparing for a bountiful summer of providing fresh produce to local feeding programs.  If you and/or a group you are affiliated with is interested in volunteering a morning or so this summer weeding and/or picking fresh produce and transporting it to a local food provider, please call Phoebe Kitson at 610-873-6000 to offer your time.
