Shelter volunteer shortage
37 is the loneliest number

It is true, out of the 93 evening volunteer slots available during the month of July, 37 remained opened.  Summer months are the most difficult to fill with volunteers that are vacationing during the summer, but not all 80 volunteers who are trained and able to volunteer are gone for the summer.

We want you to know that we miss you! We've called and e-mailed all our volunteers, but still haven't heard from many of you. Currently, our biggest need is weekend help.  If you have a friend or family member that is interested in volunteering, have them call Patty at 610-692-6550 but mention that we are only training new volunteers for weekend help.

If you are able to volunteer an extra day or two over the summer, please log onto VolunteerSpot and sign up and as always, thank you for your help!
Food Requests                                         Shortage of much-asked-for items

Although the funding we receive through the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) allows us to purchase food items for the lunch and dinner program, we are not permitted to use the funds for items considered non-nutritional but nevertheless are most requested or needed at the shelter.

When planning your next collection, please consider  individually packaged snack items such as pretzels, trail mix, chips, cookies, crackers, Nutri-grain bars, etc.  In addition, we are always in need of sugar/sugar substitute packets, creamer packets and butter pats.

A special SHOUT OUT goes to the few volunteers who always bring a bag of items into the shelter for the residents when working their evening shift.  These lovely bags contain new undergarments, freshly baked cookies and/or snacks for our residents.

You know who you are and we want you to know how much we appreciate your kindness and generosity!
Special Request
Bus Tokens Needed

Dr. Cheryl Brown, Resident Advocate, has requested donations of Septa bus tokens to be given to residents needing to travel to medical appointments.  Dr. Brown will distribute these tokens on an as-needed basis.

It is typical for our residents not to have their own vehicles or cash to afford transportation.  These bus tokens will encourage their independence and compliance with their action plan.

Bus tokens can be purchased at many of the check cashing stores throughout Chester County or you may make a donation to Safe Harbor and put "Septa Tokens" in the memo section of your check.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Music To My Ears
Barbershop Quartet Sings For Donations

The newly formed "Barbershop Quartet" of St. Paul's Lutheran Church offered Singing Telegrams for Mother's Day and designated all proceeds to Safe Harbor.  They sang for 30 lucky mothers over the Mother's Day weekend either by phone or by personal visit (including house calls and even a few restaurants).

Long-time kitchen volunteer, Shirley Deist was one of the lucky recipients of a serenade!

This unique fundraiser raised $535 for Safe Harbor!
Slipper Day
Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. holds drive

Safe Harbor supporter, Laura Bonner, has led the idea to hold a Slipper Day at her place of employment on July 23 and 30.  Slippers and PJ's are being collected by employees of GES to benefit the residents.
Third Annual Golf Outing
It's not too early to reserve your spot at the Safe Harbor Golf Outing being held on October 18 at Radley Run Country Club.  Please e-mail Christy at the office with your name and the names of the people in your group.  The cost is $175 per person or $650 for a foursome.

We look "Fore!" (ward) to seeing you there!
