Greetings!
On March 13, over 250 people attended Safe Harbor's open house of our renovated building! Even the strong winds and rain didn't stop supporters from celebrating. If you missed the open house and would like a tour, please contact Christy (Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon) at 610-692-6550 to set up a time to stop by. |

| Volunteer To-Do List
Just a little change
In the past, we kept a Volunteer check off list on a clipboard in the main office so volunteers could check off their responsibilities as they went along and use the list as a guide and reminder of what they needed to do during their shift.
There is a new volunteer list that will be laminated and tacked to the bulletin board in the main office that you may refer to when you are working your shift.
If you ever see something that needs to be done, don't be shy! Feel free to check with the staff for guidance.
Thank you!

Evening Shelter Volunteers
Just a little reminder
Please remember that volunteers are asked not to give any resident their personal phone number, cash, car rides or counseling services.
If you have an idea that will assist one of our residents, please inform Dr. Brown of your ideas and she will be happy to consider it for the resident's benefit. |
Shelter Volunteer Schedule Coming soon...
We are researching the possibility of a volunteer scheduling software program. This program will allow each shelter volunteer who works directly with our residents to sign up for the day and time you are available.
You will receive an e-mail with the link when it is ready to go!
Thank you for your cooperation in making our scheduling as efficient as possible. |

Home Depot donates cabinetry
and installation services
On February 23, employees of The Home Depot in Downingtown participated in a Team Depot event for Safe Harbor! These employees donated their time to install a new breakfast buffet, beverage center, pantry cabinetry, and wall of storage drawers in our storage closet.
A grant of $21,300 was awarded to Safe Harbor through The Home Depot Foundation. Andrea Flemming, Manager of the Downingtown store, wrote a grant for our needs!
The Daily Local News covered the event. If you missed the article and the video, please click here Team Depot Event for the complete story!
We are humbled and grateful for the generosity of all the people involved in providing much-needed storage of our supplies. | |

Calling all interior designers/decorators
Do you have a flair for designing or a love of decorating and can share your talent with Safe Harbor? We are in need of Extreme Makeover Staff Bathroom Edition!
It's a half bath with toilet, sink, mirror and hand dryer and we would love to see it get some love and attention, some color and decoration.
Maybe a chair rail, some faux painting, an over the toilet rack that can hold some supplies and a scented candle...you bring the ideas and we'll supply the room!
Please call Patty at 610-692-6550 if you can donate your time and supplies to spruce it up!
Thank you for your consideration. |
Doc Magrogan's Fundraiser
Over $1,000 raised!
Fun was had by all on March 5 at a fundraiser sponsored by Doc Magrogan's. Over $1,000 was raised through a raffle and proceeds from food and beverages purchased that evening. Thank you to all who came out to support the shelter! |
Special Request
Delivery buzzer and intercom needed
After getting settled in to the shelter, we realized a need for a delivery buzzer and peep hole at the back door in our alley. This will encourage all bulk food deliveries to be delivered near the storage closet so we avoid carrying boxes through the front doors of the shelter, into the men's dorm and into the storage closet.
If you are an owner of a locksmith company who could donate a buzzer with an intercom from the kitchen with installation, please contact Tariya at 610-696-9016.
We are so grateful! | |

Storage Closet for Resident Supplies
Organization never felt so good!
If you missed our Open House tour and have started volunteering at the shelter recently, you may have wondered where we're keeping all of our resident supplies. A room at the top of the stairway, right of the elevator is designated for all of these supplies. If you are working in the men's dorm, please take a handle bag located on the door handle of that room and fill the bag with items marked on the "Needs List" to bring downstairs.
Thanks to Home Depot, gone are the days of storing supplies in milk crates, broken Rubbermaid containers or plastic bags. All storage drawers will have labels on them to help you find what you're looking for. If you are unable to reach into the top drawers, please use the step ladder located in the room. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance by the staff if you cannot use the ladder.
Please remember that residents are not permitted in this room and when distributing supplies, please keep the quantity for an individual item to one or two. As an example, if a resident needs an undershirt, please give them one and if they need another, then you may give another. Never distribute a full package containing seven undershirts to one resident.
Having all the items in these drawers will allow volunteers to also see what we need for our residents. So, don't hesitate to check inventory when getting supplies and help us spread the word to fill the supply drawers!
