Greetings!

Happy New Year!  We are going to be using Constant Contact as our new e-mail format for our Shelter Snippets.  Constant Contact will allow us to produce this newsletter on-line and mail to all our volunteers, staff and board members in a safe and secure manner.  If you would like your friends or family to receive a copy of this newsletter, feel free to forward this on and they may sign up at their convenience.

Thank you for your continuous support of Safe Harbor and we wish you the best in 2009!

The bids are in for the expansion and are being reviewed.  A decision on the contractor will be made by early February.

We are in the final stages of planning the relocation of the shelter and its residents so construction can take place in a timely and efficient manner.

Stay tuned in the next Shelter Snippets for more details!
Daily Local News prints our stories

We've been very fortunate to be in the Daily Local News recently.  We have had features regarding our expansion, our holiday events, letters to the editor regarding the need for community support and most recently, a broken pipe that caused the shelter to be flooded.  If you haven't seen these stories, go to the following websites:
Christmas at Safe Harbor
Thanks so much!
  • Mars North America will sponsor birthday celebration treats for our residents every month for 2009!  This is the second year they have committed to this resident  activity.
  • It only took one mention in our December issue of Shelter Snippets to encourage volunteers to support our need for milk and OJ!  We received a few calls from interested donors within days of our newsletter being sent out who generously donated these beverages.  Please continue to remember that we need sponsors for 7 gallons of milk and 3 gallons of OJ every week of the year.
  • Thank you to Amy Frailey who called the shelter on her way to the grocery store and asked us what we needed! Amy purchased milk, OJ, butter and snack items to help restock our pantry.
We are saddened by the loss of our long-time volunteer June McGlauflin who passed away on November 17, 2008.  June was a kitchen volunteer for Safe Harbor since 1993 when lunches for the homeless were being served at Care Center for Christ.  June was a member of  Grove United Methodist Church.  Memorials contributions were designated to Safe Harbor in her name.
Welcome!
Welcome new volunteers Kristen Green, George Scherbak and Steven Sweifler!  These volunteers will be working in the evening to assist the evening staff and residents.
