Meet Katie Martin
Katie hails from Scranton, PA. After obtaining her Bachelor's Degree in English Writing from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004, Katie decided to move to the sunny state of Arizona.
When she isn't hard at work at SWCP, Katie channels her creativity into penning her first novel, Compliment vs. Insult: A Sociological Commentary on the Ambiguity of Strangers' Random Comments. She can usually be found reading the latest issue of the New Yorker or the latest book chosen for her book club; seeing indie movies; frequenting local museums; supporting the efforts of Phoenix's top-rated sketch comedy team, Bully Mammoth; or practicing her photography skills. She is an avid bike rider and a huge fan of Alex Trebek with or without the mustache.
"I've learned so much since I started at SWCP," Katie says with a positive, reaffirming arm upswing. "Everyone has been so wonderful to work with just like a little family."
Katie is an Account Coordinator in our Phoenix/Scottsdale office. You can contact her at 480-609-5312, kmartin@swcp.net |

Resort Spas Focus on Spirituality
Girlfriend Getaways Get a Shot of Soul
Resorts have long had programs and spa offers to attract mothers and daughters and girlfriend groups to stay and play. But now resorts are infusing these getaways with spirituality or self-development.
In October, Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa will host a three-day Mind, Body, Spirit Boot Camp with life coach and author Martha Beck.
On August 29, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess will debut its Soul Break with yoga, journaling and goal-setting workshops to complement the spa packages.
And on select weekends, the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa is offering CalmQuest, a two-day beginner's meditation workshop. That workshop and other meditation sessions are hosted by Damian Vaughn, a former pro football player who used meditation to get in the flow of the game and find a life after his career ended.

New Eco-Resort in Scottsdale?
Developer Submits Plans to City of Scottsdale
Developer Lyle Anderson submitted plans to Scottsdale for a resort adjacent to the Golf Club Scottsdale.
He is seeking rezoning to accomodate the eco-resort at the Reserve, designed to allow guests to immerse themselves in the Sonaran desert. It would include 180 hotel rooms 127 villas, and 17 residences on 213 acres northwest of 122nd Street and Dynamite Boulevard in northeast Scottsdale, bordering the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
The eco-resort would feature a spa and conference center for small corporate retreats. While the resort currently does not have a hotel brand affiliation, talks with several luxury hotel brands, not currently in the Arizona market, have been underway.
If the project is approved this fall, development could start next year and be completed in 2013.

Bonfire Grill & Bar to Open in October
Old Town Scottdale gets new hot spot
A sculpture rising more than 20 feet will mark the arrival of a restaurant inside the building that used to house Furio, the trend-setting Old Town Scottsdale restaurant and bar. The designer of the new Bonfire Grill & Bar, Jeff Low, describes the space as romantic and charming with a theme revolving around the idea of casual, hip and cool Arizona. The space will reflect the state's history with the walls created by artists. There will be a large patio with a sculptural form that Low believes will be the most photographed thing in Scottsdale.
