Meet Betty Covey
Betty was raised in Seattle, but after her first hiking trip to Tucson 17 years ago, she fell in love with Tucson and the amazing Sonoran Desert and has never left. She has worked in destination management for over 11 years and her last 5 years have been with Southwest Conference Planners.
She has a passion for exploring the world and last summer, she hiked both the Inka Trail in Peru and the Grand Canyon. She also loves camping, four-wheel driving and anything that gets her outside. Betty lives on a small ranch in Tucson with John, her husband of 30 years. They have two beautiful daughters, Wendy and Christine, and one granddaughter named Bella Rio.

New Spring Training Facility for MLB
Salt River Fields at Talking Stick
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) and their partners, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, announced that their new spring training facility will be called Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. "Salt River Fields" alerts baseball fans that they are visiting the community. The word "fields" refers to the 12 practice fields located within the facility and also the community's rich agricultural history, while the term "talking stick" is a historical reference to the traditional Pima calendar stick on which carvers recorded significant events and milestones.
Salt River Fields at Talking Stick is being constructed on a 140-acre site just east of Scottsdale at 7555 N. Pima Road. The complex will be home to an 11,000-seat ballpark, 12 practice fields, as well as major and minor league clubhouses, training facilities and offices for each team.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies will start spring training at the facility in February 2011.

Movie Shoots in Arizona
Cave Creek/Scottsdale Setting for Western Movie
Western-style haunts in Cave Creek and Scottsdale will be the backdrop in an upcoming movie called Queens of Country, starring Lizzy Caplan and Ron Livingston.
The comedy, directed by Arizona's Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke, chronicles the adventure of a young country line-dancing champion on a mission to find her soul mate.
Kyndall Holstead, production coordinator, said filmmakers "wanted something that took place in an Arizona cowboy town."
Cave Creek, with its rodeos, hitchin' posts and Old West saloons, was naturally an ideal spot.
Scenes were shot at the Cave Creek Coffee Company, Buffalo Chip Saloon, Reata Pass Steakhouse and Greasewood Flat, and in private residences in Cave Creek. Learn more about the Valley's entertainment scene by contacting your SWCP Account Executive at 480-443-3505. |
