Meet Our Intern - Amber Hahn

Amber joined SWCP in January as our spring semester intern from Arizona State University. She is completing her last semester at ASU and will graduate in May, with a B.S. degree in Tourism Development and Management and a certificate in Meetings and Convention Planning. "In the years to come, I am looking forward to obtaining a career and establishing many relationships within the tourism and events industry in Arizona."
Amber was born and raised in Chandler, Arizona, and currently lives at home with her mom, two cats, Bentley & Booger and her puppy, Parker. In her free time, she enjoys going out to different restaurants, shows and events, but also likes watching a good movie or Saturday Night Live from the comforts of her couch at home. |

Soleri Bridge to Open in the fall
Public Art crosses Scottsdale Waterfront
 |
Scottsdale Public Art unveiled a schedule for completion of Paolo Soleri's Bridge and Plaza across the Scottsdale Waterfront in October or November of this year. "This is a major milestone not only for our program but also for the city of Scottsdale," said Margaret Bruning, Scottsdale Public Art's associate director.
Soleri, who is famous for his architecture and wind bells, designed a 100-foot-long pedestrian bridge over the Arizona Canal just west of Scottsdale Road. A 22,000-square-foot plaza will be built on the southern side of the canal and will incorporate the Sun Circle Trail, part of a 144-mile system. The project includes two 64-foot pylons placed 6 inches apart at a specific angle to produce a shaft of light from the plaza to the bridge deck, marking and celebrating seasonal solar events.
Last week, the Scottsdale City Council unanimously approved the bridge construction contract for $3.5 million. The giant pylons are expected to be trucked in by late summer.

Phoenix CityScape's Debut nears
New Kimpton Hotel in Phoenix
This spring and summer, downtown Phoenix's $900 million CityScape development will start to show signs of life.
In early April, the first office tenants will begin to move into the 27-story tower at First and Washington streets. As the weather gets warmer, shops, restaurants and a reconfigured Patriots Square Park will open. Next year, there will be more to see: Travelers will be checking into Kimpton's 240-room Hotel Palomar near Central Avenue and Jefferson Street.
"CityScape buzz will help boost interest in other downtown attractions such as the monthly First Friday art walk, theaters and sports venues," said Jason Harris, a Phoenix official who works on downtown development issues. "It will further the perception of the wealth of things that downtown has to offer," he said.

Food Network features Chef Beau
"Worst Cooks in America" |
Executive chef Beau MacMillan wouldn't normally be boasting that he surrounds himself with the worst cooks in America. That claim would hardly go over well with his staff, or the diners at his restaurant, the swanky Elements inside Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain resort in Paradise Valley.
Yet, it's a brag MacMillan hopes to repeat again and again, because if he can, it means the birth of a career that the gregarious, white jacketed guy has long dreamed of: television star. The Sanctuary Resort Chef whom foodies adore has been snatched up by the celebrity making powers of the Food Network. MacMillan's oversized personality debuted this year on "Worst Cooks in America."
About the Show...Twelve of the most hopeless cooks in the country compete in a high-stakes elimination series. At stake for the last two standing is the chance to cook for a panel of esteemed culinary critics and win the grand prize of $25,000. This six-episode series will put the "recruits" through a culinary boot camp led by two acclaimed chefs: Anne Burrell, host of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, and Beau MacMillan, executive chef at Elements in Phoenix.
Sanctuary's Elements was redesigned with a private dining room in the kitchen so guests can watch him do his thing.
