Greetings!

It's easy to feel excited about a mission trip to a foreign culture, but what difference do such ventures actually make? At Faith, Hope and Love Global, we are committed to go beyond feel good experiences. We are continually seeking ways to truly transform and equip leaders, pastors, and students for the sake of Christ and the Gospel.

We teach, inspire, and encourage in very practical ways, so that those who participate in our programs will be able to create vision and make concrete plans for their relationship with God and their ministries. Then, when we can, we circle back later to find what actually happened as a result of the work they did with us.

Teaching and Coaching Leaders in Rwanda

In May, I spent three full days teaching and coaching nine Rwandan Anglican Archdeacons to follow up on work done previously with them. What I heard confirmed that our time with them has been well worth the sacrifice and effort.

Archdeacons--Rwanda 2011 Archdeacons, Shyira Diocese, Rwanda

As a result of The Spirit-Led Leader course in 2009...

· They are spending more time in prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking to be humble in the presence of God.

· They are seeking to be obedient to the Spirit rather than just following the prevailing dogmas and traditions of the church.

· They have been cultivating a culture of listening with team members, genuinely valuing their input and working more as a team with very positive results.

· They are caring more for the less fortunate, creating new programs for social welfare and community development. They put Christians in small groups to care for one another; and have created health centers.

· They have been emphasizing church planting.

· They are identifying gifts among parishioners and teaching them how to use their gifts.

The potential impact of The Spirit-Led Leader teaching and coaching is huge. Collectively, these church leaders are responsible for 120,000 parishioners.

In their own words, our works is clearly making a difference:

"We see that we have made so much progress since the training that we are far ahead of other denominations."

"Others are surprised to the see the Holy Spirit at work in the Anglican Church!"

"The week of training in 2009 was not wasted! Now I can see that all that we have been doing is built upon what we learned in the Spirit-led leader training."

After this year's teaching and coaching, the Rév. Canon Jean-Damascène, responsible for the care of all the pastors in the diocese, said, "Why didn't we have this teaching at the beginning of our ministry? But it's not too late. We will apply it now!"

Rév. Jean-Baptiste: "10 days ago I had no idea what I was going to do with my (new) archdeaconate. Now I know! This coaching was an answer to my prayer."

Teaching in the Congo

Tim teaching Philippians-Goma 2011

Tim teaching Philippians in French

In Goma, 40 Congolese pastors, leaders, and theological students gathered for a week long intensive course on the theology of Paul and his letter to the Philippians, called, "Philippians for Pastors."

Again, the testimonies showed that God used the class to motivate and equip participants to serve Christ more effectively. Students spoke of wanting to "stand firm" in their faith, "to imitate Christ, Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus," and to live "to serve Christ and the Gospel."

Students proudly display their 43 page workbook that Tim translated into French for the course on Philippians.

While in Goma, 22 women leaders and I met to start planning for a Spirit-Led Leader course just for women leaders. They were enthusiastic, and eager for training to start as soon as possible. We are aiming for May 2012.
