Weekly Wellness Tip from HAP
Depression affects more than 17 million Americans every year. People with depression feel overwhelmed with sadness and loneliness for no apparent reason. Additional symptoms include feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness, loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies that were once enjoyed, decreased energy, difficulty concentrating, and thoughts of death or suicide. If you think you or a loved one may be suffering from depression, contact your health care provider.

we want EWE to get involved!

Convention Service Lead
Date: October 7, 2011
To: Chamber Members
From: Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce
Organization: FAAN Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward a Cure, October 22, 2011
Contact: Melissa Vecchi - detroitchair@foodallergy.or
Meeting Name: FAAN Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward a Cure
Meeting Dates: October 22, 2011
Proposal Deadline Date: Thursday, October 13, 2011
The Sixth Annual FAAN Walk for Food Allergy to help find a cure to protect people with life-threatening food allergies will take place Saturday, October 22 starting at 9:30 AM at Oakland Community College - 27055 Orchard Lake Rd Orchard Ridge Campus Farmington Hills, MI.
The Walk, will benefit the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) in its efforts to raise funds to provide education and advocacy, and to advance research on behalf of all Americans affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis. The theme this year is an "Autumn Festival."
The prevalence of food allergy among children in the U.S. is higher than previously reported, with 8%,or 1 out of every 12 children affected, according to the findings of a new study. The study, published in Pediatrics, the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, also revealed that among the 5.9 million children with food allergies, 39 percent have a history of severe reactions and 30 percent have multiple food allergies. "This study provides us with further compelling support that food allergies are a growing health concern among children in the U.S., and also gives us new information about the demographics of those with food allergies," said FAAN CEO Maria Acebal.
Needs: We are in need of volunteers on walk day to play games with families and/or product donations for basket raffles.
Action Requested: Interested volunteers should contact Melissa Vecchi at detroitchair@foodallergy.org

"Let Your Heart Shine Charity Ball"
The Quality of Life Center is sponsoring the "Let Your Heart Light Shine" charity ball at Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester Hills on Oct. 15. The organization's goal is to raise funds for the joint venture of Macomb and Oakland County to begin the Interfaith Volunteer Caregiver program here in Oakland County.
Macomb has provided free assistance to the indigent elderly and disabled for the past 18 years and over the past year many Oakland residents have asked for their help. With Honorary Chairs Huel and Priscilla Perkins, this event will help to launch a similar program in Oakland County. To inquire about advertising, buying event tickets or providing a quality gift for the Silent Auction please contact: Jackie Smiertka at jksassoc@mich.com or call 248-364-4064 or visit www.qualityoflifecenter.net for more details.

Walter P. Chrysler Museum 2011 Lecture/Workshop Series
The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is pleased to announce our complete 2011 Lecture/Workshop Series comprised of six sessions highlighting a wide range of topics for die-hard auto enthusiasts as well as novice car owners. The series kicks off Saturday, April 16 with The Art of the Auction, featuring RM Auctions and Auctions America by RM.
Following are highlights of each program, which you will also find - along with online registration - by clicking here. The attached form is provided for your convenience in registering via mail.
We look forward to seeing you.
From Chrysler's Vintage Master Tech Files 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 $13 per person advance/$15 per person door (Museum members $11 and $13, respectively) For more than 60 years, Chrysler dealership technicians have learned in-depth diagnostics and service procedures through a monthly training program that's believed to be the longest running of its kind. Master Tech courses - which are Web-based today - have advanced as much as the vehicles they highlight. Join Steve Shugg, retired Director of MoparŪ Sales and Training and Field Operations, for an entertainingly nostalgic look back at the then cutting-edge training from Master Tech's earliest days via delightfully antiquated original filmstrips. Model Train Clinic 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 $2 per person ages 5 and up with regular Museum admission ($1 for Museum members) Celebrate the season with a stroll through the Museum's Cars, Trees & Traditions exhibition and delight in a variety of trains running through elaborate landscapes on an oval track in Boss Chrysler's Garage every holiday weekend with regular Museum admission, courtesy of the Stoney Creek Model Railroad Club. Club members will host a Model Train Clinic Dec. 3 to work with young train lovers in creating lifelike scenery from everyday materials and provide tips to moms and dads about easy, inexpensive ways to start a model train tradition at home. Click here to register online for any of the Museum's 2011 Lecture/Workshop programs. For additional information, e-mail events@wpchryslermuseum.org or call 248-944-0450.
