"Let Your Heart Shine Charity Ball"
The Quality of Life Center is sponsoring the "Let
Your Heart Light Shine" charity ball at Great Oaks
Country Club in Rochester Hills on Oct. 15. The organization's goal is to raise funds for the joint venture of Macomb and Oakland County to begin the Interfaith Volunteer Caregiver program here in Oakland
County.
Macomb has provided free assistance to the indigent
elderly and disabled for the past 18 years and
over the past year many Oakland residents have asked
for their help. With Honorary Chairs Huel and Priscilla
Perkins, this event will help to launch a similar program
in Oakland County.

Weekly Wellness Tip from HAP
 A recent study conducted by the University of Maryland School of Medicine reported that laughter not only enhances your mood, but it may also protect your heart. During the study, 20 healthy participants were shown 2 movies: a funny comedy and a war saga. After viewing the war(stress-inducing) film, participants' blood vessels constricted and blood flow was reduced in 14 out of 20 participants. when viewing the comedy, 19 of the 20 participants experienced improved circulation and blood flow. The researchers explained that the increased blood flow was similar to the benefits of exercise.

MI APPLE TRAIL LEADS TO DOWNTOWN ROCHESTER
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Aug. 2, 2011 - The Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market is on the road to the MI Apple Trail! The Farmers' Market will display its 4' fiberglass apple as part of the regional "MI Apple Trail" public art event, through Sept. 17.
In celebration of both Michigan's bountiful apple harvest and southeast Michigan's great farmers' markets, the Michigan Apple Committee and the Detroit Eastern Market have teamed-up 20 participating markets, each of which will showcase a giant Michigan-made apple for six weeks beginning in Aug.
The Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market apple was created by Carolyn Weber, a student from College for Creative Studies. The name of the apple is "Pleasant Peninsula;" it is an illustration of Mich. white tail deer, wolverine, cherry blossoms and water, symbolizing the Great Lakes as well as the Mich. state motto. The "Pleasant Peninsula" apple currently is on display at the Market on Saturdays, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, through Sept. 17.
On Sept. 17, the apple will be delivered to Detroit Eastern Market and remain on display with the other apples until the Apple Gala and Auction on Oct. 14. All apples will be auctioned off as part of the Apple Gala, with proceeds from each apple returning to the farmers' market from which it originated.
Self-mailing MI Apple Trail "Passport" postcards are available at the Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market. The Passports list all of the participating farmers' markets. Individuals should take the passports to each market and have it stamped. Visit five of the participating markets and you could win a "Mighty" fine prize! Passports must be stamped by five different markets and postmarked by Oct. 8, 2011 to be entered into the prize drawing.

Rochester Hills Museum Hosts Summer Camps
Terrific Tuesdays are truly terrific in the Rochester Hills Museum Children's Garden where parents, grandparents, and caregivers join their children for garden themed stories, crafts and treats. Children, ages 3-5, are invited from 10:00-11:00, for programs that include The Three Billy Goats, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Breakfast with Butterflies, Alphabet Soup, and Ladybug Picnic. Children, ages 6-10, learn about gardening with teacher and Master Gardener, Michele Dunham, from 1:00-2:30, with Sensational Soil and Wonderful Worms, Powerful Plants and their Perfect Parts, Fabulous Flowers, What's Bugging Us, Tops and Bottoms - Plant Parts We Eat, Scarecrows and much more. Join us for Tuesdays, August 2, 9, 16, and 23. Pre-registration is required and space is limited in our corncrib classroom. The cost for each Terrific Tuesday is $3 for Museum members and $5 for non-members. All grown-ups are free!
Little House by the Creek - One Day Camps are the perfect place to be on Thursday August 11. Campers, ages 7-11, travel back in time to days along the Stoney Creek in a small village and take part in activities from the 1800s including children's chores like hauling water from the creek, candle-dipping, sewing, rug-beating, vegetable gardening, tin-punching, and butter-churning. The school marm will teach them reading, writing and 'rithmetic at the one-room schoolhouse and, if they get all of their chores and schoolwork done, there will be time to play with old-fashioned toys and go wading in the river! Re-registration is required and space is limited. Cost is $30 for Museum members and $35 for non-members.
Little House in the Village Writer's Camp is planned for August 22-25 for ages 9-12. They will be using the Museum's unique natural and historic setting to read, write and illustrate a variety of genres while experiencing life in a 1860s village - working and playing like yesterday. Pre-registration is required and spaces is limited. Cost is $120 for Museum members and $140 for non-members. Walter P. Chrysler Museum 2011 Lecture/Workshop Series
The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is pleased to announce our complete 2011 Lecture/Workshop Series comprised of six sessions highlighting a wide range of topics for die-hard auto enthusiasts as well as novice car owners. The series kicks off Saturday, April 16 with The Art of the Auction, featuring RM Auctions and Auctions America by RM.

Protect your investment and avoid getting stranded by learning about required maintenance including checking the oil, safely filling the fuel tank and changing a flat tire. Tips and techniques presented in the session's first half will be reinforced via hands-on demonstrations in the second half. Master Tech courses - which are Web-based today - have advanced as much as the vehicles they highlight. Join Steve Shugg, retired Director of MoparŪ Sales and Training and Field Operations, for an entertainingly nostalgic look back at the then cutting-edge training from Master Tech's earliest days via delightfully antiquated original filmstrips. Model Train Clinic 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 $2 per person ages 5 and up with regular Museum admission ($1 for Museum members) Celebrate the season with a stroll through the Museum's Cars, Trees & Traditions exhibition and delight in a variety of trains running through elaborate landscapes on an oval track in Boss Chrysler's Garage every holiday weekend with regular Museum admission, courtesy of the Stoney Creek Model Railroad Club. Club members will host a Model Train Clinic Dec. 3 to work with young train lovers in creating lifelike scenery from everyday materials and provide tips to moms and dads about easy, inexpensive ways to start a model train tradition at home.
