Weekly Wellness Tip from HAP

HAPMen and women under 50 should consume 1000 mg of calcium each day.  If over 50, you should increase this to 1200 mg.  Vitamin D is also essential, as it works with calcium to preserve bone health.  Include foods containing vitamin D and get 15 minutes of sunlight several times each week.  If your diet is low in calcium, your body takes the calcium it needs from your bones causing broken bones and osteoporosis.  www.hap.org

Genisys VP Inducted to Hall of Leaders

Auburn Hills, MI, June 28, 2011 - On June 15-16, 2011, more than 30 Michigan credit union leaders participated in the Michigan Credit Union League's (MCUL) annual Hike the Hill in Washington, D.C. to discuss top issues affecting credit unions today.

During the event, a reception was held at the Credit Union House where Lon Bone, Genisys Credit Union Vice President of Public Relations and MCUL Board Director, was inducted into the Hall of Leaders for his outstanding commitment to the credit union movement over the years.

"Lon was presented with a plaque of recognition for his many contributions to grassroots advocacy on behalf of the movement," said Dave Adams, MCUL & Affiliates President/CEO. "Genisys Credit Union's commitment to advocacy and especially Lon's ability to represent the organization are both uniquely strong in our credit union community. Genisys has a long-standing legacy of leading by example with resource commitment in that area. Were it not for that commitment, we would have far less success in PAC fundraising, relationship building and the associated legislative successes."

The Hall of Leaders was created in 2008 by Credit Union House, LLC as a way to provide lasting recognition to individuals who have played and continue to play key roles in strengthening the credit union system and have made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state, or national level. It also portrays the volunteer efforts and dedication that these individuals have toward the values and mission on which credit unions were founded.

"Being named to the Credit Union Hall of Leaders was completely unexpected," said Bone. "Supporting credit unions and the philosophy of 'people helping people' has always been important to me so this award is a huge honor."

Bone is one of 31 leaders representing 16 states who have been inducted into the Hall of Leaders to date.

Genisys Credit Union is proud to be making a difference in our communities, and we truly believe that Genisys is "where you come first". We are locally owned, locally controlled and continue to receive BauerFinancial's five-star rating for financial safety and soundness. Follow genisyscu on Facebook and Twitter for contests, promotions and other helpful information. A calendar of events can also be found on our website at www.genisyscu.org.

Children, ages 3-5, are invited from 10:00-11:00, for programs that include The Three Billy Goats, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Breakfast with Butterflies, Alphabet Soup, and Ladybug Picnic.  Children, ages 6-10, learn about gardening with teacher and Master Gardener, Michele Dunham, from 1:00-2:30, with Sensational Soil and Wonderful Worms, Powerful Plants and their Perfect Parts, Fabulous Flowers, What's Bugging Us, Tops and Bottoms - Plant Parts We Eat, Scarecrows and much more.  Join us for Tuesdays, July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16, and 23.  Pre-registration is required and space is limited in our corncrib classroom.  The cost for each Terrific Tuesday is $3 for Museum members and $5 for non-members. Little House by the Creek - One Day Camps are the perfect place to be on Thursdays, June 30, July 14, July 28, and August 11.  Campers, ages 7-11, travel back in time to days along the Stoney Creek in a small village and take part in activities from the 1800s including children's chores like hauling water from the creek, candle-dipping, sewing, rug-beating, vegetable gardening, tin-punching, and butter-churning.  The school marm will teach them reading, writing and 'rithmetic at the one-room schoolhouse and, if they get all of their chores and schoolwork done, there will be time to play with old-fashioned toys and go wading in the river!  Re-registration is required and space is limited. Little House in the Village Writer's Camp is planned for August 22-25 for ages 9-12.  They will be using the Museum's unique natural and historic setting to read, write and illustrate a variety of genres while experiencing life in a 1860s village - working and playing like yesterday.   Pre-registration is required and spaces is limited.
