PCN Group Seeking Members!

PREFERRED CLIENT NETWORK

The PREFERRED CLIENT NETWORK is a group of 10-25 Rochester Regional Chamber members that meet bi-weekly to discuss and pass "qualified" leads.

This PCN Group meets the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month.  Our next 2 meetings are 3.11.11 & 3.25.11.

8:00 AM*

Chapman's Mill Restaurant & Bar**

2086 Crooks Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48309

*Time may vary **Location may vary

First and foremost, this is a business meeting. At meetings, each participant will be given an opportunity to present their business in a 60 second commercial. At the completion of this process, 1 or 2 members may be featured with a 10

minute presentation. In concluding the meeting, each member will be allowed a brief moment to pass a lead or present a testimonial. It is not necessary for each member to speak.

Time is a factor during these meetings and it is imperative that you give each member your full attention when they are speaking. Networking opportunities can be conducted prior or after the PCN group meets.

For the success of this group, it is essential to be prepared and present for each meeting. If you anticipate a scheduling conflict, please contact someone in the group to give your one minute commercial. Also, contact the current PCN

secretary so that they will have an accurate count of those attending. Again, attendance is vital. If you are not prepared to make a commitment to the PCN group, please do not join. Three absences are considered excusable but beyond that you may be asked to leave the group.

Weekly Wellness Tip from HAP

Humor has long been known to relieve pain and tension, and provide a healthy perspective on life's problems.  Norman cousins, a well-known author and editor, diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease in the 1970's, checked himself out of the hospital (with his doctor's consent) and into a hotel room, where he watched funny movies to ease his considerable pain.  He found that ten minutes of laughter gave him two hours of painless sleep.  When you laugh your brain produces endorphins.  Endorphins are natural chemicals that can override pain and make you feel great.

The Healing Arts at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center

ROCHESTER, MI - Crittenton Hospital Medical Center's Healing Arts Series brings an innovative program featuring speakers who will explore the non-traditional ways in which one's environment - through art, design, architecture and natural elements -  can aid in the process of fully healing the body, mind and spirit.

The second of a three part series, "Healing through Spaces" welcomes David Jaeger, AIA, Principal and Design Director at the architectural firm, Harley Ellis Devereaux. He leads design for their healthcare studio across three geographic regions, building a national practice in every aspect from strategic planning through detailed design. David has been practicing healthcare design for over 28 years. He has been active regionally and nationally, with several speaking engagements primarily focused on the interrelationship of environmental design and better clinical and experiential outcomes. David is also a professor at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Architecture as well as the College of Health Professions.

"Healing through Spaces" will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 7:00 pm in the Crittenton Hospital Medical Center Lobby. This program is free of charge and open to the community. Please call (248) 652-5345 or email FoundationEvents@crittenton.com for reservations. More information can be found at http://www.crittenton.com/healing-arts.

The Crittenton Foundation is hosting the three-part series in the midst of a community-wide fundraising effort, named the Cornerstone Campaign, to build a new five-story patient tower.  The tower will add approximately 173,000 square feet of needed space and 90 private patient rooms. Harley Ellis Devereaux has been chosen to design the new patient tower for Crittenton.

"We are thrilled to host David Jaeger's presentation on design and architecture in healthcare spaces, especially because these philosophies are an integral part of the design process for Crittenton's new tower," says Katy Olsen, Crittenton Foundation President.

Pistons and Genisys Credit Union Honor Oakland University Students for "Food Fight"
Pistons-Palace Foundation donating an additional $1,000 to Lighthouse of Oakland County to assist Oakland University's efforts

OU Food FightAUBURN HILLS, Mich. - On February 16, 2011, the Detroit Pistons and Genisys Credit Union recognized students from Oakland University's Athletic Department during the Pistons vs. Indiana Pacers game at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Making a Difference program.

During the first two weeks in February, Oakland University students raised $2,598.99 and 459 pounds of food for Lighthouse of Oakland County in Pontiac as part of the Summit League's annual "Food Fight" food drive.  A representative from both the Pistons and Genisys presented a check for $1,000 as an additional contribution. The honorees also wore shirts that said "Be a Game Changer" to create awareness of the positive commitment that Generation Y individuals in Michigan have made to the young people in their communities and to showcase the subsequent impact.

The Summit League schools have teamed up to fight hunger in their third annual "Food Fight." These teams have designated 20 "Food Fight" games during the basketball season as part of the league-wide food drive. At the end of the "Food Fight" schedule, the school that raises the most amount of food, measured in pounds, will be deemed the winner and awarded The Summit League Food Fight trophy.  The Summit League and its member schools raised a combined total of 35,000 pounds of food in the first two years of the program.

The Pistons organization and Genisys launched the Making a Difference program to recognize Generation Y volunteerism.  Once a month, a local group is selected and honored on court at a Pistons home game. The criteria for being a recipient is being a Generation Y individual that demonstrates acts of social responsibility, faith-based charity, acts of valor, or extraordinary mentoring. Generation Y is typically defined as the generation between the ages of 18 and 25 years old. Nominations can be made at Pistons.com for a chance to be recognized on court.

Rochester Hills Museum to Host Exhibit on Hand Hooked Rugs

The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm will be hosting an exhibit of hand hooked rugs from March 5-June 18.  The Museum is open for drop in tours every  Friday and Saturday from 1-4 p.m. and group tours can be scheduled by appointment.  The hand hooked rugs have been made by the Great Lakes Rug  Hooking Guild that is based in the Romeo, Michigan area. Every Friday and Saturday, from 1:00-4:00,   members of the guild will be at the Museum demonstrating their craft and inspiring others with their creativity and creations.

Rug Hooking has been popular in North America for at least 200 years-beginning as a craft of poverty.  Today, it is considered a social art form, and as one rug-hooker explains, "in addition to fulfilling the need to create something with their own hands, women at hook-ins, camps and guilds have formed friendships and look forward to   being inspired by one another".  History, inspiration, creativity and friendship are the ingredients that put together this new exhibit of sixty hand-crafted items.  Rugs, pillows, wall-hangings, and stools are on display in the 1927 Van Hoosen Dairy Barn Exhibit Center. These beautiful and practical works of art are created with narrow strips of wool that are pulled through a stiff woven backing such as burlap. Guests can also tour the Museum's local history exhibits and tour the 1840 and 1850 farmhouses.

The Rochester Hills Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located at 1005 Van Hoosen Road, one mile east of Rochester Road, off Tienken Road, and one mile north of downtown Rochester.  For more information visit www.rochesterhills.org or call 248.656.4663.

Relay for Life of Greater Rochester Looking for Community Members to Participate

RELAY FOR LIFE OF GREATER ROCHESTER

IS LOOKING FOR COMMUNITIES MEMBERS

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2011 EVENT

Empowering the community to fight back against cancer and save lives

(ROCHESTER, MI) -Relay For Life is an event that brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups, people from all walks of life - all aimed at celebrating the lives of those who have had cancer, remembering those who have been lost, and fighting back against the disease.  The Relay For Life committee is looking for walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers, community leaders, anyone who wants to make a difference.

"Relay For Life is all about our community uniting together to help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays," said Sheryl Albert, event co-chair. "Volunteers and participants who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event are making a commitment to let the Rochester community know that cancer can be defeated."

This years Relay For Life of Greater Rochester will take place on June 25th at Hart Middle School beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing through 9:00 a.m. on June 26th.  Individuals and teams camp out at Hart Middle School; with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the event, signifying that cancer never sleeps. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during Relay.

A special Survivor Ceremony will take place during the event and members of the community are encouraged to attend, with special emphasis on cancer survivors and their caregivers. The ceremony is followed by a Victory Lap, where participating cancer survivors are given special t-shirts to wear as they, along with their caregivers, lead a special lap around the track in honor of their triumph over cancer. Through out the event, there will be a survivor tent which will offer both survivors and caregivers an opportunity to experience healing, receive support, and celebrate their collective victory over cancer.

At the heart of this emotional event is the Luminaria Ceremony, which will occur at sundown. The luminaries are decorated by participants with the names of family and friends who have faced cancer. The ceremony is followed by a silent lap around the track to honor those who have survived and to remember those we have lost. The lit bags line the track often into the morning hours.

This year the Rochester Relay For Life will offer community members a unique opportunity to enroll in a new research study called the Cancer Prevention Study - 3 (CPS-3) at the event. Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 years who have never been diagnosed with cancer are encouraged to join this historic research study. Those who choose to enroll will complete a brief initial questionnaire and provide a waist measurement and a small blood sample. Participants will periodically be sent a follow-up questionnaire for the next 20 to 30 years

Anyone interested in learning more about Relay for Life or in joining a team are encouraged to please contact Anne Buechel at 248 495 3544 or email at anne.buechel@vw.com or you can visit our website at www.relayforlife.org/rochestermi to get more information on the event, start a team online or make a donation.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
