The Onyx Rochester Ice Arena along with Suburban Ice Macomb are hosting the Girls and Women's hockey Nationals in April.  Ninety teams that win their state championships will converge in Rochester  to compete - that's over 1,200 players from around the country that will be here with their families and friends!  These arenas were selected over any others in the USA to be host.
Weekly Wellness Tip from HAP

As parents age, it becomes more important for their children to look after them.  Make it a practice to check your parents' home every six months to make sure there are no hazards.  In particular, test the smoke detectors, door locks, handrails, and lighting.  Also, make sure that your parents know who to call or what to do if an emergency should arise.

February 7, 2011 ThinkTank Recap

The Power of Strategic Alliances

 ThinkTank Logo

1.    Partner with someone in your industry- Someone who has a special "niche" that you can refer clients to each other.
2.    Planned Social Networking- Share post, like peoples comments, write referrals for other business professionals. Have it show up on their linkedin and their facebook wall.
3.    Personal- Continuous face time. Take the time to reach out to your clients
4.    Consistency- Touch Time- "Ticklers" and Personal Touch.  Weekly and monthly.  Take the time to care about your current and past clients.
5.    Website and Social Media- Always accessible add your personality to it.
6.    Post Articles- Post articles on your facebook, linkedin, blog, e newsletters, and twitter.  When visiting colleagues facebook, twitter, and linkedin and hit "share" to repost it.
7.    Write Articles- Get with your strategic alliances and write articles for each others newsletters.
8.    PCN Group/ Networking Group- Have a mission statement and read it before every meeting.  This will keep you focused on why you are there.
9.    Personal Phone Call- Call your clients and your fellow business professionals and talk to them about a specific "ask."  Let them know how they can refer to you.
10.    Biz Card Dot System- Red, Green, Yellow.  On business cards put a sticker on your connections cards.  Have the understanding with what each color means.  Green stickers are clients that you have to keep in touch with often, Yellow clients that you can get in touch with every other week or once a month, and red are the cards that you don't stay in touch with that much or not at all.
11.      Email Signature- Put your "ask" in your email signature.
12.     Commit to Community involvement-
13.      Join & Participate in business networking events.
14.      Cultivate personal relationships
15.      Exchange Contact Info- Have follow ups, schedule 1 on 1's, keep in touch
16.      Brochures-  Come up with a hand out that has information about you and your trusted alliance.  You can hand them to past and potential clients.  It will help people understand how you can help them and cut down on the cost that it would normally cost you to print.
17.      Ask for referrals
18.      Non- Profits- Donating to non profits and keeping active with them.  Be good to them and their members will be good to you.
19.      Customers- Most of your customers want you to succeed.  Keep them informed, treat them good, get to know them. They will bring you business.
20.      School system- Be involved with your local schools.  Donate to fundraisers/ volunteer.  Grow your brand by being out there and meeting the parents.
21.      Cross promotion with local businesses.
22.      Business Card Contest- Have a monthly/ weekly drawing at your business for your customers.  A drawing were they have to drop their business cards in.  Here you will see what your customers do and how you could possibly work together.
23.      "Power Group"- Form a team of 3-6 business professionals that you have synergy with.  Ones that you are targeting the same clientele but not in direct competition with.  See how you can send each other referrals/ cross promote.
24.      Ads- To help with the price of ads combine your advertising dollars with your alliance.
25.      Book speaking engagements- Get with someone that you have a strategic alliance with and target organizations/ companies that you guys can speak at.  Make sure to target your demographic.
26.      Build business with your existing clients - It is easier to build your business with your existing clients than to get new ones. Word of mouth is one of (if not the) the most powerful methods of advertising. Becoming known in your industry is your primary goal when networking. When you are known, you will get business.
27.      Referral Programs- Have your clients/ Staff work for you.  Have an on going referral program or a monthly program to help your existing clientele work for you.
28.      Think outside the box- Always try and come up with new and exciting ways you and your strategic alliance can grow.
29.      Cross promote your social media- Have contest on each others facebook fan pages to cross interact with your clients.  The contest could be sponsored by your alliance or they can promote it for you.  Write reviews on their facebook fanpage wall and like/ comment on their topics.
30.      Interview- Interview your clients on video.  Ask questions about what they do, what sets them apart, and how they can help people.  Put this on blogs, youtube, your website, and facebook.  Great way to promote each other, let your clients know what they do, and that you trust them.
31.      Trade Shows- Set up booths together at events and trade shows.  It will cut down the cost of the tables and you can promote to your same clientele.
32.      Contest- Have in house contest sponsored by an alliance.  Or go in with your alliance/ power group and sponsor a contest, go in on prize, or gift certificates.
33.      Go to events together- Take your strategic alliance to events together. Going with a plan is a great way to meet more people faster.  Bring people to your alliance and warm up the introduction.
34.      Top Clients- Call your top clients and see how they are doing, let them know how they can help you, through specials or events for them.  Have an event were they bring a friend.  This is a great way to get new customers.
35.      Referral partner- Get with your strategic alliance and focus on getting each other 1-3 referrals a week.  If you have a power group of 4 people and you all focus on getting 2 referrals for each other a week.  That could potentially be 288 new referrals a year.

Date Set for the 2011 Relay for Life of Greater Rochester

DATE SET FOR THE 2011 RELAY FOR LIFE

OF GREATER ROCHESTER

Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.

(ROCHESTER, MI) - It's time to fight back against cancer. This year's Relay For Life will take place on June 25th at Hart Middle School begining at 9:00 a.m. and continuing through 9:00 a.m. on June 26th.

Relay For Life is dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight cancer. As the Society's signature event, Relay has been bringing cancer survivors and anyone touched by the disease together for more than 20 years.

Held overnight in honor of the fact that cancer never sleeps, Relay For Life has grown from a single event to the largest grassroots movement nationwide. The event will celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease.

Relay brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups -  people from all walks of life - all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society's vision of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Teams of not only raise dollars and camp out overnight, but also participate in fun activities and ceremonies.  Last year, 42 teams participated in the Greater Rochester event raising $129.700.

"Relay For Life provides an enviormnment  where everyone in our community to join in the fight against cancer,"  said Patty DeShetler, Event Chairperson. "It is truly inspiring to witness the cancer survivors  in our community celebrate their victory over the disease."

This year the Rochester Relay has been selected as an enrollment site for the third Cancer Prevention Study (CPS-3) of the American Cancer Society.  This is a one time opportunity, a hands-on way for us to be personally involved in research and to play a significant role in cancer prevention.  Being involved in this Cancer Prevention Study means we will have the potential to impact the lives of so many people and change the course of our future and our children's future as we learn ways to prevent cancer.

Community members can also start or join a team by following the links to our local Relay event on www.relayforlife.org/rochestermi or donations can be made at this website.

For more information on how you can get involved there will be a kick off event at St Pauls Church 620 Romoeo Road in Rochester on April 13th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  Please contact Kathryn Brennan at Kathryn.Brennan@cancer.org or (248) 663-3436 if you are interested in attending or if you would like more information about the Relay and/or the Cancer Prevention Study 3.
