The Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce partners with the Detroit Regional Chamber to provide members with additional time and money saving products and services.  Two of the most popular programs are the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan program and the Office Depot program.

Representatives from the Detroit Regional Chamber will be reaching out to members in the coming months to discuss these benefit programs. 

 

 

The Rochester Area Ministerial Association in partnership with Rochester Community Schools will sponsor a celebration in honor of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a service to be held on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 620 Romeo Rd. in Rochester.

 

The event will feature presentations from the student essay contest winners, Lake Orion Drummers, children's choirs from multiple churches and public schools, liturgical dancers, and light refreshments. This event will include Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and Rochester Mayor Jeffrey Cuthbertson 'call to action' for the cities' 'Make a Difference Day' in April.

 

The Rev. Dr. Ken Johnson, retired psychologist who worked within the State of Michigan Prison System and developed the 'Peace Initiative: We'll Work for Peace' organization will speak on the theme of 'Service to the Community: Keeping Martin Luther King's Dream Alive'. The program is open to the public and is free of charge.

 

Background:

In January of 1995, a group of parents from the Paint Creek Unitarian Universalist Congregation approached Beverly Stone, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, to initiate plans for the first Martin Luther King Day celebration. In the following year, when, for the first time, the schools had a holiday for Martin Luther King Day, PCUUC worked with the school district to organize a Martin Luther King Day program, with Unitarian Universalist writer Rosemary Bray McNatt as speaker. The event which first drew 50 people has grown to hundreds of participants.
