LAGNIAPPE IN DOWNTOWN ROCHESTER - A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA ON NOV. 29 ROCHESTER, Mich. - Nov. 9, 2010 - Join the merchants of Downtown Rochester on Monday, Nov. 29 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm when they offer their customers Lagniappe (Creole for "a little something extra") in appreciation for their support throughout the year.
The Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) also will offer some Lagniappe with the debut of The Big, Bright Light Show. The program will begin at 6:45 pm on E. Fourth Street with help from the Mayor; Channel 7's Dave LewAllen; and a special appearance by the man in red, Santa Claus himself, sponsored by Studio One Salon. The lights will officially light-up Downtown Rochester at 7:00 pm. Make sure to bring your cameras because kids will then have the opportunity to share their Christmas lists with Santa from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
As part of Lagniappe, the DDA is partnering with Rochester Area Neighborhood House on "Kicks for a Cause," to help the kids in our community with a basic need we all take for granted - shoes. Please bring a pair of new shoes to the corner of E. Fourth & Main from 5 - 9 pm. Help us "kick" off the season by making the holidays merry & bright for the kids in our community. All types of shoes are needed - athletic, casual and dress.
New this year is the Downtown Rochester Holiday Shop. The shop will feature "official" downtown holiday merchandise including ornaments, ceramic Traditions Buildings and holiday cards. The store will be open throughout Lagniappe at 335 Main (next to Chase Bank).
In addition, free horse-drawn trolley rides will be available at E. Third and Walnut Street. The rides will run from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Trolley rides are sponsored by Waltonwood at University.
There will be a number of free holiday music performances to help visitors get into the holiday spirit; the Meadow Brook Carolers, Heart of the Hills Barbershop Chorus and OU's Gold Vibrations a Cappella will all be making rounds and spreading holiday cheer!
Following Lagniappe, The Big, Bright Light Show will run nightly from 6:00 pm - midnight through Jan. 2, 2011. Also, don't forget the Kris Kringle Market, an open-air holiday market, Dec. 3 - 5.
For more information on all Rochester DDA events, please call 248.656.0060 or visit www.DowntownRochesterMI.com.

Harbor Springs get-a-way! Winter weeks AND weekends are available!
 - The pines are whispering to you, the faint smell of hard wood pluming from chimneys and yes, that's you....sitting in front of the fireplace after a day of downhill skiing, cross country, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or snowballs! Boyne and Nubs Knob are just up the road, about a 7 minute drive (about 4 - 5 miles) from the condo door!
- Maybe the idea of a good long swim in the indoor pool followed by a, Jacuzzi or a toasty sauna and a movie or book by the fireplace is more appealing!
- Out on the town? Harbor Springs and nearby Petoskey offer an array of excellent restaurants and shopping as well as the new (2009) Odawa Casino in Petoskey.
This is the ideal place to take the entire family, group of friends or just escape by yourself..... or maybe with someone special.
3.5 Bedrooms, 2.5 baths completely appointed for your enjoyment. JUST SHOW UP! Phil Lowman 248.705.7752 or Carol Lowman 248.505.5950 |

Salvation Army "Raising a Can of Christmas Cheer" Dear Chamber Members,
The Salvation Army would like to invite you to join other businessess in North Oakland County in "raising a can of Christmas cheer". Our Christmas fund raising campaign takes place from Friday, November 12th-Friday, December 31st.
During the holidays last year we served over 600 families throughout North Oakland County, and anticipate that this year the need will be even greater.
Your support will help us to provide food, toys, and other necessities at Christmas and throughout the year, which will bring smiles to many faces young and old, and "cheer" the hearts of those whose lives you have helped touch.
Cans are available for pick up and may be signed out for at the Chamber on November 12, 2010 and can be dropped off at the end of the holiday season, December 23, 2010 at the Chamber office.
You are not liable if something were to happen to the can, we are grateful for your time and inconvenience in encouraging your patrons to give.
Thank you very much,
Major Nathan Johnson

24th Rochester Hills Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast
The 24th annual Christmas Parade Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by The Rochester Hills Kiwanis, will occur from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, December 5 at the Older Persons' Commission (OPC) building at 650 Letica Drive in Rochester. Plan now to enjoy the secret pancake recipe cooked on specially seasoned cast iron grills. Until you have had a world famous Rochester Hills Kiwanis pancake, you haven't had a pancake. This year Kiwanis is once again partnering with America's PRIDE groups from the middle and high schools in Oakland Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills. The Middle School America's PRIDE youth organization is a group of over 200 youngsters who are promoting a healthy lifestyle free from obesity, smoking, alcohol and drugs. They are sharing the message with their peers and with elementary aged students. The funds raised from the Pancake Breakfast will support this group. Kiwanis has provided funding with a focus on young people - America's PRIDE youth organization, scholarships, winter coats, hearing aids, and other equipment for children who cannot afford them. The groups that have benefited from Kiwanis have been Rochester Neighborhood House, Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition, Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, and the OPC-just to name a few. The Pancake Breakfast is a tradition where families and friends gather for pancakes and sausage in a relaxed and fun atmosphere before watching the parade or just enjoying the best breakfast in town. There is also entertainment provided by the students. Tickets are available at the door, America's Pride Group, Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce office and from any Rochester Hills Kiwanis member. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.00 for children 12 and under.
Anyone interested in membership in the Rochester Hills Kiwanis or pancake breakfast tickets could also call Chad Rinke (248) 651-2426.

ROCHESTER AREA NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM
Rochester Area Neighborhood House is kicking off the annual Christmas event where we work to bring Christmas to the children of the families in need in our community. There are an unprecedented number of neighbors in need this year, and you can create a special moment for a child by hosting a giving tree in your store or business or by adopting a family with your staff.
If you host a giving tree, RANH will deliver gift tags to you the first part of November. Your patrons and staff buy gifts listed on the tags by December 3rd. On December 6th, a member of the RANH Elf Squad will pick up the gifts and take them to St. Philip's Episcopal Church where the holiday event will be held for clients to pick up their children's gifts.
If you choose to adopt a family, we will match your business up with a family you feel you can support with children's gifts for the holiday.
These programs are guaranteed to bring the Christmas spirit into your workplace.
Should you choose to participate in any way in the Christmas program, please contact Sharon Sutton at Rochester Area Neighborhood House at 248 651-5836 or by email at ranhchristmas@gmail.com.
Your participation and support is key to the success of this program and your willingness to assist those struggling in our community is greatly appreciated.
