Chili's Bar & Grill in Rochester Hills St. Jude's "Create-a-Pepper" Campaign
My name is Michelle Jory and I am a manager at the Chili's Bar & Grill located in Rochester Hills. Every September, Chili's is fortunate enough to be apart of St. Jude's "Create-a-Pepper" campaign where our guests get the chance to color peppers for a donation to help fight childhood cancer. If you ever dined at a Chili's in the month of September, you're likely to see all the different Peppers decorated across the restaurant. In addition to the Peppers, we also see tee shirts, keys, and this year we've even added Silly Bandz! 100% of the money from those items goes directly to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
We launch our campaign August 26th-September 28th. We are looking for ways to reach out to the Rochester community and spread the word about this amazing campaign! We are very passionate about joining the fight against childhood cancer, and as Chamber members, we were hoping that you could help us achieve some help with advertisement and such. Hopefully you'll be able to point us in the right direction!
Thanks for your help!
Sincerely,
Michelle Jory

Rochester Oral History Project
The Rochester Oral History Project will be seeking memories of the Rochester community from past and present residents, age 55 and over, during the 33rd Rochester Area Heritage Festival.
The festival is Sept. 25-26 on the campus of Rochester College, 800 West Avon, Rochester Hills.
Cornelia Pokrzywa, a Special Lecturer in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at Oakland University, manages the project. Her students will be at the festival both days.
"We're going to actually record there," she said. "We normally do them in quieter locations but we have done these with ambient noise. Since we're at a festival, it would be OK to have some sense that we are there."
The project is interested in memories both old and new so they can be preserved for future generations. "It does not have to be people who lived here way back when," Pokrzywa said. "Our only requirement is they have to talk about Rochester memories."
Some people who have already recorded their memories include Cammie Mannino, owner of the popular children's bookstore Halfway Down the Stairs; Marye Miller, longtime director of the Rochester Older Persons Commission; Oakland Township Supervisor Joan Fogler; and Cecile Wendt Jensen, who taught at Adams High School from 1976 until 2002.
In order to avoid a potential wait, appointments may be made by contacting Pokrzywa at pokrzywa@oakland.edu or 248-895-0802.

Paint Creek Trail to Host a Free Labor Day Community Walk Community encouraged to participate in Michigan's Labor Day tradition
Rochester, MI - Does the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Walk sound like a good idea yet it's too far away for you to participate? This year you won't need to travel all the way to St. Ignace to join in Michigan's Labor Day walking tradition. The Paint Creek Trail will be hosting their fifth annual Labor Day Community Walk to help increase the number of active people this Labor Day weekend.
The Paint Creek Trailways Commission is organizing the Labor Day Virtual Bridge Walk and Run on Labor Day, September 6, at the Rochester Municipal Park and Paint Creek Trail as part of the Labor Day Community Walks that are held throughout the state in conjunction with the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Walk. Community Walks help provide a similar experience to residents unable to participate in the annual walk across the Mighty Mac.
Registration forms are available online at www.paintcreektrail.org/events.htm and will be available onsite starting at 8:00am. The walk and run will begin at 9:00am at the Rochester Municipal Park Kiwanis Pavilion and head north on the Paint Creek Trail. Participants can walk to Tienken and back for a 2 mile walk, or head to Silver Bell and back for a 10K run. Innovative Chiropractic of Rochester Hills will be on site providing information and free massage warm-ups, and free fudge samples will be provided for a "virtual" Mackinac experience! The first 300 registered participants will also get a free gift.
"Our free Labor Day Virtual Bridge Walk and Run event is our most popular event of the year. Our goal is to encourage our residents and visitors to utilize our great community trail and park resources to incorporate healthy and simple exercise habits into their daily routines. Families attend our walk to "kick-off" a great start to a healthy and successful school year," said Trail Manager Kristen Myers.
The Paint Creek Trailways Commission is one of several Michigan organizations holding a Labor Day Community Walk. Walks like this are important steps toward helping citizens lead healthier, more physically active lives. By hosting local walks Michigan communities are able to demonstrate their commitment to healthy living, physical activity and community involvement.
"By holding local events all across the state, we hope to double or even triple the number of walkers on Labor Day and bring attention to the importance of physical activity for the health of Michigan," explains Marilyn Lieber, president and CEO of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports.
"Every Labor Day, thousands of Michiganians participate in the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk, and as governor, I'm proud to lead the way across the bridge that links our beautiful peninsulas," said Granholm. "But now communities throughout the state can be part of this tradition."
A physically active Michigan means a healthier Michigan. Take advantage of the wonderful opportunities to enjoy Michigan's beautiful parks, trails and lakes while hiking, biking and swimming your way to fitness and health.
