ROCHESTER, MI, June 17, 2010 --- Enjoy live cool jazz at a great American estate. Local jazz musicians George "Sax" Benson and trio "Birds on a Wire" return to Meadow Brook Hall for the annual summer concert series.
George "Sax" Benson will perform Thursday, July 22 and "Birds on a Wire" will perform Thursday, Aug. 19. Concerts begin at 7 p.m. and last until 10 p.m. Admission is $30 per person, which includes a main floor tour of The Hall and light hors d'oeuvres.

The hors d'oeuvres menu includes a variation the following: spinach artichoke dip with crispy pita chips, corn tortilla chips with house-made salsa, seasonal garden vegetable crudités with savory dip, fresh fruits and berries with yogurt coulis and mixed nuts. A cash bar will be available.

Throughout the year Meadow Brook Hall hosts a variety of educational programs and special events. All proceeds from the programs support the preservation and interpretation of The Hall.

When he heals, he decides to use his technology to fight crime and leads a double life as Iron Man in this comic book adventure. July 17:  Star Trek (Rated PG-13) - Presented by Dairy Queen of Rochester - The 2009 chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.  Audience members are encouraged to wear their best Star Trek gear for the informal costume parade.  Five Star Connection will have a booth with information on their organization.

July 24:  The Blind Side (Rated PG-13) - Presented by Hall & Hunter Realtors, Lynn Baker and Deby Gannes - The true story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.  We'll "kick-off" the night with sports trivia!  Wear your favorite team apparel!  Don't miss the Rochester Avon Recreation Authority booth!

July 31:  Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (Rated PG) - Presented by Cornerstone Community Financial - The world famous singing pre-teen chipmunk trio return to contend with the pressures of school, celebrity, and a rival female music group known as The Chipettes.  Kids can participate in a pre-show cakewalk and Rochester Area Youth Assistance will have a booth on site.

Movies in the Moonlight is located in the parking lot at the corner of E. Third & Water, one block east of Main.  Featured movies begin at dusk (approximately 9:15 pm) and pre-shows start at 8:30 pm.  Admission is free, so arrive early for the best seating.  Movies in the Moonlight is BYOC (Bring Your Own Chairs)!  Please note, movies rated PG-13 are edited versions, however parental guidance is still suggested.

Popcorn, candy, hot dogs and soft drinks will be available for purchase at the Rochester Lions Club concession wagon, but you are welcome to bring your own goodies, too (no alcohol or glass containers allowed).

(Rochester, MI) A summer to do list usually contains such carefree items as buying suntan lotion, catching the latest movie blockbuster and settling into a good paperback instead of something as mundane as restocking the first aid kit.

Emergency rooms see a spike in visits during the summer as people spend more time outdoors and pursue activities they don't have time for during the rest of the year.

The Crittenton Wound Healing Center offers the following safety tips to help keep your summer accident and injury free.

·    Break in new shoes before wearing them on a hike or vacation.  People with diabetes, are at a higher risk for chronic foot wounds. 
·    For minor burns: relieve pain and prevent contamination by submerging the burn in cool water.  Use sterile dressings but don't apply ointment or home remedies such as butter or petroleum jelly that may seal in heat or cause infection.
·    Children, the elderly and those with high blood pressure have increased risk for heat exhaustion and, during warm days, should drink more water and stay away from beverages containing caffeine, alcohol or large amounts of sugar.  
·    Always wash your hands after being outside because dirty hands are a primary source of infection.
·    Insect repellents can help reduce exposure to mosquito bites that may carry viruses.  Use enough repellent to cover exposed skin but don't apply it to cuts, wounds or irritated skin.
