Member Spotlight - AFLAC Brian McCarthy
I'm sure everyone knows AFLAC from our famous duck, but how many really know what we do? Our insurance is a unique concept. We pay people cash directly when they're hurt or sick. Today people are financially burdened more than ever when they're hurt or sick. Rising co-pays, deductibles, and over all health care costs are part of the problem, but so is missing work, travel expenses, out of pocket expenses, and the bills that never stop coming in. For only a few dollars a week individuals can choose plans that fit their needs to provide a financial safety net when they're hurt or sick.
For employers it's free to offer these pre-tax benefits that'll even save on FICA tax. Employees appreciate the options even though they're paying for it. Next time you're hurt or sick and major medical sends you a bill, let AFLAC send you a check too. Contact Brian McCarthy at 586-531-6736.

Good News!
ROCHESTER'S HOME TOWN WINERY WINS GOLD ROCHESTER, Mich. June 1, 2010 - Fieldstone Winery has become Rochester's award winning winery. Fieldstone Winery entered two wine competitions winning gold and silver medals for its 2009 Traminette. Fieldstone won a gold medal at the April 2010 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in New York and won a silver medal at the May 2010 Taster Guild International Wine Competition in Grand Rapids. This is Fieldstone's first time entering a wine in a competition. The wine is available for sale at the winery located at 223 S. Main St in Downtown Rochester.
"This was our first time making wine from locally grown grapes", said Patrick Mulrenin owner of Fieldstone Winery. "We are ecstatic with the results. The traminette grapes were purchased from Taylor Ridge Vineyards on the west side of the state. The wine has elegant floral and fruity aromas reminiscent of rose petals, apricots, peaches, passion fruit and pears with a fruity and full mouth taste. It's great with spicy foods or as a chilled sipping wine. It is a great summer wine."
This is just the start for Fieldstone Winery's production of wine from locally grown products. Last fall Fieldstone made apple wine from apples grown by Fogler's Orchard in Rochester Hills (will be available for purchase fall 2010). They also made wines from locally produced blueberries and honey. "We are excited about producing wine from locally grown products and proud to say they were produced in Rochester"
Fieldstone Winery is a full licensed winery that makes and sells over 30 different wines. Fieldstone wines are also available at Gus O'Connors (Downtown Rochester) and Antoniou's Town Square Pizza (Rochester Hills), with more places coming soon.
Fieldstone Winery is a great place to purchase quality wine, taste wine or hold events. Fieldstone hosts many wine events throughout the year and details can be found on their website www.fieldstonewine.com or by calling the winery at 248-656-0618.
Fieldstone Winery hours are from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM Tuesday - Saturday.

Oakland Christian School Named 2010
Michigan Economic Bright
Spot Award Winner
June 8, 2010, Auburn Hills, MI - Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce member Oakland Christian School (OCS) was honored today as the only educational institution to be named a 2010 Michigan Economic Bright Spot award winner by Corp! Magazine. The awards, now in their fourth year, were designed to highlight Michigan businesses and organization that innovate, diversify, adapt and remain committed to the state.
The school was selected for its unique approach to education, the way it values its students and their families, and its ability to innovate as a way to remain relevant and retain and grow its student population. "We're very proud to be honored with this award by Corp! Magazine," said Randy Speck, superintendant, Oakland Christian School. "We see this award as recognition of the value we place on the people who make up the OCS Community." Founded in 1968, Oakland Christian School has grown to two campuses - one in Auburn Hills and one in Clarkston - and employs more than 100 people. Unique among schools, OCS has a tremendous focus on customer service for its students and their families. From answering the phone to returning e-mails, to holding frequent and regular parent/teacher conferences, OCS wants its families to know they are important. Its emphasis on customer service has reaped benefits. During the past five years, OCS grew 40 percent and has added resources to its art, music, drama and academic programs while establishing new extracurricular programs. "While other schools are cutting back or eliminating programs, we have worked hard to be innovative and to offer our students more opportunities for academic growth," said Speck. "Even with the economic issues the state is experiencing, we believe our future in Michigan is very bright." About Oakland Christian School Oakland Christian School, with campuses in Auburn Hills and Clarkston, MI, offers a private, Christian-based co-educational program for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The schools are accredited through the North Central Association (NCA) and through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Learn more at www.oaklandchristian.com. ###

Safety Town is set up to resemble a small-scale "town" with portable buildings, sidewalks, roads and street signs. The Safety Town learning environment is used as a practice area for several of the safety lessons. Each session lasts two weeks, running Monday through Thursday. There are both a.m. and p.m. classes with the morning class from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and the afternoon class from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. All lessons and activities relate to a specific topic each day such as Traffic and Pedestrian Safety, Fire Safety, Personal Safety and Home Safety with special visits from the Sheriff, Police and Louie the Lightning Bug. On the last day of class parents are invited to attend the Safety Town graduation ceremony, at which each child will receive a certificate and Safety Town T-shirt.
