ROCHESTER REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CELEBRATES TEN YEARS WITH THE ASSISTANCE LEAGUE'S RESALE CONNECTION

Rochester, MI - The Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Grand Re-Opening Celebration on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m..  The Assistance League's ReSale Connection is located at 204 S. Main Street, Rochester, MI 48307.

The Assistance League opened the store in March of 2000 as a way to fund it's many philanthropic programs.  ReSale Connection has something for everyone.  They offer upscale resale items, women's and children's clothing, home décor items, consignment designer clothing, urses, belts, furs, pictures, jewelry, books, and much more.  

The ReSale Connection is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity.  All of the Assistance League's staff are unpaid volunteers.  All proceeds go to philanthropic programs such as clothing and tutoring for children and helping others in the tri-county area.  

The entire store has recently been re-modeled and they are accepting donations of gently used items.  Store hours are Tuesday-Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

Program Description: Shifting Gears is an intensive 5 month experience for corporate executives and managers in transition that prepares them for working in small businesses.  This 3 phase (gear) program helps individuals adapt to the small business environment and provides networking, coaching and internships with dynamic local start-ups and second stage businesses.

R.A.H.S. PRESENTS BARNS OF OAKLAND COUNTY
Janine Saputo is a member of the Historic District Commission of Oakland Twp. and the Oakland Township Historical Society.  She has been involved in historic preservation since 1994.  She first became interested in rural preservation and farmsteads about 2001 when she stepped into the old Gallagher Road Barn which now stands at Wyndgate Golf Course on Adams Road.  With her excellent power point presentation she will journey through several barns in Oakland County and explain why there is such a fascination with these antique relics.

The Rochester - Avon Historical Society is pleased  to have Janine as their guest speaker at their March 4 evening meeting  at the Rochester Hills Public Library, 500 Olde Town in Rochester. Rochester Junior Woman's Club Looking for Donation Recipients
Rochester, MI February 12, 2010 -- Rochester Junior Woman's Club (RJWC) is seeking a non-profit organization that is in need of assistance and can benefit from their fundraising efforts during the 2010-2011 season.

RJWC has been serving the community since 1956. It is a service organization involved in promoting education, preserving natural resources, working on behalf of the elderly, children and families in need and supporting and participating in the arts.

The club holds two or three major fundraisers a year.  The "Lobster Boil" held the last Saturday in September and other events such as a wine tasting, auction or shopping boutique in the spring.

Proceeds from the past events have been given to South Oakland Shelter, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, Meadow Brook Hall Garden Club, OPC, Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Rochester Neighborhood House, Habitat for Humanity, The Rochester Community House, Avon Players Theatre, Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, Band of Angels, Meadow Brook Center for Learning Differences, Meadow Brook Hall, The Heritage Festival and Paint a Miracle, Rochester Area Neighborhood House, Rainbow Connection and many other worthy organization.

The 2009-2010 fundraisers will support Rochester Area Neighborhood House and Meadow Brook Theatre.

Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition
The Rochester/Auburn Hills Community Coalition is again sponsoring an alternative spring break experience for our local middle and high school students.  We are a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles through prevention and reduction of risky behaviors in collaboration with youth, families and our community.  
 
Our committee is looking to promote and offer students supervised and healthy activities for them over their spring break this year.  A flyer will go to each home through cooperation with the school district which will outline various local opportunities for them to participate in as well as places to gather with friends in a healthy environment.  Would your business consider offering a special or discount for services, food items, activities that we could include in our flyer for spring break?  Please consider how your business might participate with the coalition in providing alternatives for our youth this year.  Spring break will be the week of April 5 for local students.

RELAY FOR LIFE OF GREATER ROCHESTER
Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.
(ROCHESTER, MI) -  Everyone can be a part of the Greater Rochester Area  Relay For Life expereince and join the the fight against cancer!

Learn how you can become a part of this amazing event. Relay For Life will hold their annual Kick Off event on March 9th at St Paul's United Methodist Church at 620 Romeo Rd and everyone is invited to attend!

Area residents are invited to attend the kick off celebration to learn more about getting involved in Relay, what the American Cancer Society is doing in the community and enjoy an evening of information, inspiration and celebration!  Registration begins at 5:45 p.m. with a strolling dinner from 6:15 to 6:45 and the evening program beginning at 6:45 p.m.

A complimentary dinner and beverages will be provided courtesy of approximately 20 Rochester area restaurants including Antoniuo'sTown Square Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chicken Shack, CJ Mahoney, Give Thanks Bakery, Gus O'Connor's, King's Pizza, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, Planet Pizza, Shields Pizza and Sir Pizza.

The evening will include Sheryl Albert and Kathy Leighton who will be the co-masters of ceremonies for the evening. During the opening ceremony Major Smith will be a guest speaker and the Survivor speaker for the evening will be Anne Buechel and a "special" acknowledge for all local cancer survivors. Monique Anthus will be speaking about Team Development as well as other speakers with more information on the Relay for Life event and the effect it has had on their lives.

The Relay raises funds, honors survivors and remembers those who have lost their battle with cancer.  Family and friends create teams who walk through out the night along with activities, food, music and the lighting of thousands of luminaries to remember and honor those who fought cancer.  Each year the event grows bigger and better!  This year will mark the 12th annual event in Rochester Community.

In 2009, 44 teams participated raising over $115,000. Survivors and caregivers gathered at the event for the Survivor Ceremony and luminaries lit the walking path in honor and memory those touched by cancer. This year, the planning committee hopes to increase the team participation to 36 teams.  This year's Relay For Life of Greater Rochester will take place on June 26th at Hart Middle School begining at 9:00 a.m. and continuing through 9:00 a.m. on June 27th.  

Community members can also start or join a team by following the links to our local Relay event on www.relayforlife.org/rochestermi or donations can be made at this website.

2010 Relay for Life of Greater Rochester
Presents Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser

Rochester, MI.- Come join the "Eddie and the City Cruisers" Relay for Life team at Classic Lanes on March 11th from 6 pm. to 9p.m. and help support a great cause.

"Eddie and the City Cruisers" team, made up of City of Rochester employees, are hoping to pack all 31 lanes at Classic Lanes full of fun and excitement.

Individuals can participate or get a group of 5 friends together and join a team. The cost of the event is $25 per person and includes two games of bowling (shoes included), two slices of pizza each and a pitcher of pop for each alley.  All paid individuals will receive a raffle ticket and be automatically entered to win a $50 Meijer gift card.
