ROCHESTER REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL PUBLISH UPDATED COMMUNITY GUIDE
(Rochester, MI) - Sales for the community guide being produced for the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce are underway, according to Sheri L. Heiney, the Chamber's Executive Director.  Sheri and her staff are working with VillageProfile.com, inc.(R), which has been producing publications for the Chamber since 2007.

The updated guide will be published next spring.  The 3,000 printed copies will be distributed throughout Rochester and the surrounding area, to visitors, and to individuals and businesses inquiring to the Chamber about relocation.

The Chamber is taking part in the Village Profile(TM) Convergence Publishing Program(R), the only one of its kind available to Chambers of Commerce. In addition to the printed version, all editorial content and advertisements will be published online as a NewView eBook(R) at the Village Profile(TM) Community Profile Network(R) website (www.villageprofile.com). The online publication will link from the Chamber's Community Profile Network(R) website to advertisers' own websites.

The eBook is downloadable free to computer desktops and most wireless devices. The searchable membership directory will be accessible via smartphones, web-enabled cellphones and similar wireless devices at www.vpmobile.us.

The Village Profile(TM) community portal garnered nearly 24 million hits in 2008 and 2,342,900 page views -- nearly 1.7 million of which were unique page views. The vpmobile.us site had 4,333,000 hits in 2008. Since 1996, the site has seen nearly 220,000,000 hits from Internet locales around the world and from all manner of users: education, government, business, individual, organization, and of course, .coms.

Advertising in your Chamber publication has even more advantages. According to a national study recently conducted by the Atlanta-based marketing company, The Schapiro Group, "consumers are 63 percent more likely to buy goods and services in the future from a company that they believe is a member of the local chamber" and "they are 44 percent more likely to think favorably about" the business.

The report further concluded that, "When business decision makers believe that a business is a chamber member" they are "59 percent more likely to buy goods and services from it."

Businesses interested in advertising should call Village Profile(TM) representative Ann Hatley at the Chamber office, 248-651-6700.

The Hills Bar & Grille presents Stoney Creek High School with $3500 donation

Rochester Hills, MI, 10/1/09 - The Hills Bar & Grille recently held its annual golf outing on Monday August 31, 2009. 100% of proceeds from the event were donated to Stoney Creek High School. Costs were offset by contributions and donations from US Foodservice, Bacardi USA, Samuel Adams, MillerCoors, Budweiser, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Labatt, and Newcastle. The donation was split evenly between the Stoney Creek Support The Tradition Fund and the Stoney Creek Hockey Team. Representatives from The Hills Bar & Grille will present Stoney Creek Support The Tradition Representatives with a 'giant check' for $1750 on Friday, October 2nd, during halftime of the Varsity Football Homecoming game at approximately 8pm. An additional presentation (at a date to be determined) will be made during an upcoming Stoney Creek Hockey Game for the remaining $1750 donation. The local owners of The Hills Bar & Grille believe in thoroughly supporting Rochester Community Schools, teachers, students and PTA. Other programs include pre-football game food donations for the Stoney Creek football team, a recent lunch donation for the initial Rochester PTA meeting, and an on-going 'cash-back rewards' program that rewards parents of individual schools for dining out with a portion of their purchase donated to their school of choice.

Support The Tradition is a $100,000 campaign to fund student participation in activities, athletics, and music at Stoney Creek High School. The Stoney Creek Hockey Team is a pay-to-play club sport fully funded by parents, with an estimated out-of-pocket expense of $3000 per family.

The Hills Bar & Grille offers something for everyone by serving fresh, innovative, American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a late night menu and Sunday brunch, all in a family friendly, sports-themed atmosphere. Specialties include Piedmontese Burgers, hand-cut steaks, fish & chips, pizza sticks, seasonal specialty menus and a distinguished unique wine, cocktail and martini list. After 10 p.m., The Hills transforms into one of Rochester's most vibrant nightlife venues. The Hills Bar & Grille has been owned and operated by local Rochester residents Jon Robinson, Jason Nies and John Pewinski since inception in May of 2007. "We strive to be as active as possible in the Rochester Community Schools. I chose to move to Rochester Hills because of the great community and highly-rated school system. We made a conscious decision to concentrate our year-round fundraising efforts to support the schools, PTA, teachers and families.", Jon Robinson, owner, The Hills Bar & Grille.
MICHIGAN RECEIVES IT'S FIRST CERTIFIED ORGANIC RESTAURANT
MIND BODY & SPIRITS CONTINUES TO RAISE THE BAR FOR CASUAL INSPIRED DINING
(Rochester, Mich.) October 2, 2009 - Mind Body & Spirits, perhaps the country's most eco-conscious restaurant, announced today that it has been certified USDA Organic by Oregon Tilth, a third-party nonprofit organization supporting and promoting biologically sound and socially equitable agriculture through education, research, advocacy, and certification. In just it's first year of operation, Mind Body & Spirits becomes Michigan's first fully certified organic restaurant and one of less than a dozen certified organic restaurants in the country.

For an entire restaurant to achieve organic certification it is extremely rare and the process is far from easy.  It requires adherence to strict guidelines for the handling and storage of every product that  enters the restaurant, ensuring each item is kept out of contact with a lengthy list of toxic, artificial, or otherwise harmful substances. As well as documentation from each of its vendors supplying USDA  certified products and proper identification of organic products for consumers. However, due to the best practices established by owner Mike Plesz, Corporate Executive Chef Stewart McWilliams and their  culinary team, lead by Chef de Cuisine Dan Vernia, no significant changes were necessary following Oregon Tilth's extensive audit.

"Although we just received our certification, we have been sourcing organic ingredients since we first opened our doors a year ago and now the Oregon Tilth Organic certification verifies our compliance  with the USDA National Organic Program standards," says Chef McWilliams. "However, perhaps just as important as our certification is our relationship with a growing list of local farmers and suppliers. Following the adage of know your farmer, know your food, ensures we are getting the best and freshest product possible and supports our local food system."

Mind Body & Spirits has made a number of significant changes to its lunch and dinner menus since opening to rave reviews last October. These changes have reflected the availability of fresh local ingredients that fluctuate throughout the year and the creativity of its culinary team. Updates have also been made to their growing organic wine list, Inspired Treats organic dessert selections, and mixed organic drink selections. As a result, the accolades continue to role in.

"It's unfortunate that we have reached a point where need to label our food." says Plesz. "And maybe someday certification won't be necessary. But until our food system undergoes a major transformation and people can dine out with confidence knowing their meals are free of added chemicals, hormones and antibiotics, and have not been genetically modified or enhanced, utilizing an accredited third party to verify our food claims is the best defense anyone has right now. We are also well aware," continued Plesz, "that all of the effort we've put into running a sustainable business and obtaining USDA certified status doesn't mean a hill of organic beans if our food isn't affordable and tastes great. So that remains our top priority."

Mom-2-Mom Sale
Avondale Meadows Upper Elementary is holding its First Annual Mom-2-Mom Sale on 10/10/09 from 8:30a.m. - 12:30p.m.  In this economy, it is difficult for mothers to find high-quality, affordable clothing for their young children.  This is a re-sale event in which local mothers sell their gently used children's items to families who could use a helping hand. Money this event raises will go toward a sixth-grade overnight field trip to Oakland University in May.

We are in need of a "handy" person to make some temporary signs, as well as a business that would be willing to donate a small amount of money toward the rental of 40 tables for this event.  We would be happy to provide a tax deduction receipt, as well as advertising in our school newsletter and on the day of the sale.  Hundreds of local moms will be participating in the sale and/or attending this event. We appreciate any help your organization can lend toward these two areas.

If interested, please contact sixth grade teacher, Katherine Suender @ [email protected]
