Ice Castle Festival and Play Day
Free family event! Join us Saturday, March 3, 2:00-4:00 pm

2010 Ice Castle Festival

It's time again for our annual Ice Castle Festival. This Sunflower tradition is a wonderful community event featuring the building and decorating of a giant ice castle. Admission is free and all are welcome.
In addition to building the Ice Castle, this year we'll be celebrating play of all types--for all ages--with special Play Day activities, including a series of classic and enduring childhood games -- such as an obstacle course, nature scavenger hunt, and kick the can -- as well a mini Shakespeare festival and a raffle.

The Play Day will be held in conjunction with KaBOOM!, a national non-profit. By hosting a Play Day, Sunflower furthers the national movement to save play and helps KaBOOM! spread the message that play is vital for America's children. Play Day is a celebration to advocate that play belongs to all kids, in all communities. The event will help build awareness for the importance of play, strengthen our community, and bring old-fashioned fun to our neighborhood.
Shakespeare fairiesThe festival also will include a Shakespeare mini-fest, presented by Sunflower's teenaged theatre students. Make a newspaper sword, dress up and dance with fairies and be entranced by live Shakespeare!
Coming this Summer: Theatre Mini-Camp!
Sunflower is offering a month of Storytime Drama and Theatre Workshop mini-camps in July!

Camps will be taught by our new theatre teacher Whitney Stange, and will run Monday through Friday each week:

Storytime Drama (ages 5-7) 9:30 -- 11:30 am, M-F
Theatre Workshop (ages 7-12) 12:30 -- 2:30 pm, M-F

Camp weeks are July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27 and July 30-Aug. 3, 2012
.

Awesome night: Playful Yoga Fundraiser @ Red Tent
Thank you to our friend Lisa Kelly for donating her time, talent and beautiful space at the Red Tent for our Sunflower Playful Yoga and Moms Night Wine & Cheese fundraisers in January, and to everyone who worked to make the night a success.

At Sunflower we're all about advocating for the right to play for all children. But we also know parents need to stop and play a little too! After all, the benefits of play apply to all people-adults included. That was the idea behind our recent fundraiser, which combined a "Playful" Yoga class with a relaxing [...]...» Read more on our blog

When my husband and I found our new neighborhood, it was love at first sight. It was exactly what we'd been looking for: family-friendly and filled with more at-your-fingertips nature and open play spaces than we typically see here in South Florida, where zero lot line heavily-landscaped communities are the norm.
Our neighborhood has[...]...»  Read more on our blog
