What is Seedlings?
Sunflower's Seedlings program is a unique parent co-operative "alternative to preschool" for children ages 2.5 to 6 which focuses on the development of the whole child.
We view children not as clay to be molded or shaped by adult knowledge; but as seedlings in need of nurturing, space and time, and a rich environment in order to grow in the unique way intended for each one.
The model for Sunflower Creative Arts' Seedlings program is completely unlike almost anything else in early childhood education. This is what sets us apart:
- In the Seedlings program we value play as central to learning.
- We view conflicts between children as opportunities for social and
emotional growth. Our aim is to teach age-appropriate nonviolent
conflict resolution to all of the children and adults involved in our
classes and programs.
- At Sunflower, our mission is to give children the freedom to discover their unique passions and the support necessary for each one to develop a strong personal voice. We encourage children to express their feelings, desires, and
opinions, and we accept and affirm that what they say is true for them.
- We nurture children and teach all of these important life skills in an open, loving, supportive, creative arts-based environment.
