It's
September 30. We are thirty-five days out from the big election of 2008, and there are only six days left before Pennsylvania voter
registration closes on October 6.
In this update, VotePA is offering a few simple steps we all should take now -- today -- to protect the vote.
The right of every citizen to vote in fair and accurate elections is the hallmark of our self-government. But recent changes in voter registration databases and record keeping may mean that some folks who believe they are correctly registered (even people who vote every time) may find their records are inaccurate or missing.
There is still time to make sure that no one is disenfranchised in
November by registration problems, but the window is closing fast. The deadline is next Monday.
Help make sure that everyone's voice is heard this November. It's the biggest and best thing each of us can do to make a difference.

#1 -- CHECK YOUR OWN VOTER REGISTRATION
|
|
There is still time to re-register if you find a problem
VotePA urges everyone to check their own voter registration status this week by calling the Pennsylvania Department of State at 1-877-VOTESPA, or check online HERE. You can also confirm your registration with your County Election office. The contact information for your county can be found at the Pennsylvania Department of State's County Contacts and Web Sites page.
In the event you find out that you are not registered, or are listed under an incorrect name or at an incorrect address, you should fill out a new voter registration application, be sure to sign it, and send it to your County Election office as soon as possible. The absolute deadline is October 6, but we urge everyone to get all registrations in as sooner if you can to allow as much time as possible for processing and to correct any errors.
If you are listed as an inactive voter, you should still be able vote on November 4 but you may have to fill out an affirmation at the polling place. To save everyone's time on Election Day, you might want to fill out a new voter registration application now and re-register before the October 6 deadline.
Once you have confirmed your own voter registration status, help all your family and friends to check as well. If you have folks out-of-state, a great resource site is http://www.CanIVote.org which has links to voter information for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Military and other overseas voters can get help HERE.
Check your registration today. Your right to vote is too precious and this election is too important to take a chance.
