"Pick of the month"

Greetings!

Welcome Mike Musumeci
Welcome Mike Musumeci

We are now officially into the Fall season and with that in mind, we thought it would be a great time to discuss insulated siding.

The new law banning the use of hand held devices goes into effect October 1st. We want to make you aware of how it effects you and your family.

One of our friends from the rescue squad was in an accident and we are going to share with you a letter written by rescue squad board member Ginger Weasonforth.

We would also like to introduce our newest member Mike Musumeci, who will be in charge of handling our Service Call department. I appreciate your continued patronage of G.H. Clark and as always, please keep the comments and suggestions coming.

Regards,
Gil Clark

This month I wanted to introduce Insulated Vinyl Siding.  For a full demonstration of the benefits of insulated siding, simply click the video link above and take a look.  A couple of important things to note is that the maximum $1,500 tax credit for "drop in", otherwise known as "full back" insulated siding, expires at the end of the 2010 calendar year.   As well, the product must be installed by December 31, 2010.  Again, please feel  free to enjoy the video, and do not hesitate to give us a call to set up a free estimate!

Senate Bill 321

Maryland Senate Bill 321 has been signed into law by Governor O'Malley.

The new law will prohibit all Maryland drivers from using a Cell Phone without a Hands Free Device while operating a motor vehicle.

In addition the new law would prohibit "a holder of a learner's instructional permit or provisional driver's license who is 18 years of age or older from driving a motor vehicle while using a handheld telephone".

The fine for a first offense would be $40 and subsequent offenses would be $100.

The new law would be a secondary offense, meaning that a driver must first be committing a primary offense such as speeding or reckless driving before they could be ticketed for a Cell Phone offense.

The new law is scheduled to go into effect in October, 2010.

To read the bill please go to the State of Maryland Website and Read Senate Bill 321

If there are drivers in your family who are 18 years of age or younger or anyone possessing a provisional permit, the laws is slightly more restrictive, please read the law carefully.

This letter is written on behalf of the many friends of Brent W. Jones.

Brent Jones is a 39 year old man who along with his eight year old daughter were involved in a serious ATV

 (4 wheeler) accident on August 3, 2010.

Lacey Jones, Brent's daughter, suffered two broken wrists, scrapes and bruises. She has casts on both arms and is recovering well. She has returned to school and is in good spirits and hopes to see her daddy soon.

Due to Brent's actions of pushing his daughter off the ATV prior to going over the ravine, he very much saved his daughters life. Brent however suffered the most serious of injuries. Brent was originally flow to Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV but then was flown to University of Maryland, Baltimore Shock Trauma.

Brent has suffered a broken nose, two cervical vertebrae fractures, multiple rib fractures, a collapsed lung, and the worst of the injuries, multiple thoracic vertebrae fractures which has left him without feeling from his chest down. The doctors have diagnosed him as a T6 paraplegic. The doctors, with their best medical expertise, have stated that the paralysis from his waist down will be permanent.

Brent underwent surgery to support his spine on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. He is continuing to improve daily and will hopefully be transferred to a rehabilitation center within a few weeks. Here is where the most difficult work begins.

Brent is a 19 year veteran and Life Time Member of the Prince Frederick Volunteer Rescue Squad (PFVRS) and Calvert County Advanced Life Support (CALS).  He is also a 9 year veteran of the Calvert County 911 Control Center. He has donated his time, education and life to helping others. Now is the time we are trying to help him.

He has an ever growing group of friends. Those of us, who are granted the opportunity to call him our friend, realize quickly that we have made a friend for life. His daughter, his family and his friends mean the world to him. His is a very giving person, someone who would without question give someone the shirt off his back.

We, his family and his friends are very grateful for any and all support during this most difficult time in Brent's life. We are trying to make the many changes and challenges that are facing Brent as smooth as possible. Any donations, whether it be monetary, materials, labor, ect.... are greatly appreciated. Checks may be written out to Brent Jones Foundation. 100% of all proceeds, from fund raisers, boot drives, ect... will be given to Brent to assist in medical bills, home modifications, ect...

In the upcoming months, there will be several fundraisers, boot drives, ect... For many of these we are looking for possible donations that can be raffled off. The next event will be a Poker Run in Calvert County on Saturday October 16, 2010.

Green Tips
By Terry Quinn

Here are some general low-tech tips for year round savings.

Keep an indoor/outdoor thermometer around where you can easily see it so that you always know the exact temperature and plan accordingly.

Check in attics, basements, ceilings and behind doors to asses where you do and don't have insulation. Be careful not to over-insulate your attic. You should be able to see daylight from the outer most portion of the attic, where the eaves are. The attic needs to breath and the soffit vents cannot be blocked/covered with insulation.

Have a heating/Ac professional come at least once a year to assess your system.

Replace or clean all of the filters in your furnace or heating system every year.

Use a programmable thermostat to manage your energy usage when you aren't around. If you don't have one it's well worth getting one installed. You can check with your utility company to find out what programs are available that include programmable thermostats.
